We love the Bel & Dragon. The building is warm and welcoming and as a converted church has a grandeur you just don't get in most restaurants. If you get a table at the top of the mezzanine the vantage point is great. Like others, on our recent visit, we found the service to be fairly shambolic and needed to prompt the waiter to bring us a wine menu, then ask him again to take and order and then remind him to bring the bottle. Equally we were served courses without cutlery being on the table so we had to sit there looking at it while the the staff ran around snatching it off other tables. Saying all that the staff are friendly, well meaning and trying. I just think they haven't been trained or there aren't enough of them so are trying to do too many jobs at the same time.
However, I forgive all of this, and give it the stars I do because every morsel of food that comes from the kitchen is excellent. Interesting dishes, well sourced food and lovingly cooked they really are a delight. On top of that the bar makes the best Bloody Caesar's I've had - including the originals that come from Caesar's Palace! The food and drink will keep us coming back and we'd recommend to others. You'll just need to park all expectations about service.
