“Hard to find - but worth the effort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2011

Our sat nav delivered us to the narrow main street in the centre of Godalming; only after numerous enquiries and several abortive attempts to discover where we should have been did we finally arrive at the Manor House, two miles and more away. Maybe our sat nav was the problem. Unsuspecting first time guests should beware - but not let it deter them.

The Manor House was built in the 1890s by a master at nearby Charterhouse School. After several times changing hands and functions (IT centre, training establishment for nurses, etc) it now belongs to a company specialising in corporate conferences. For that purpose (which it must surely serve admirably) it seems to have a Monday morning to Friday tea-time schedule. Leaving week-ends free for individual guests such as we were. The down side is that the dining room does not serve dinner on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening - though the excellent brochure generously recommends in some detail nearby places to dine.

That said, the accommodation could serve as a model for any hotel: our room was spacious, light, well appointed and immaculately clean, with large windows looking out on to the grounds. The inclusive breakfast offered no room for complaint.

With so much to praise, it was disappointing to be required to check out by ten a.m. - with a warning note that failure to do so could result in a £15.00 surcharge. We guessed that this may relate to the weekly routine when the corporate attendees would have yielded early access to the rooms to the cleaning staff. Otherwise, this admirable establishment seems to manage its dual function in a manner that deserves to be widely known.

We liked it a lot.

Thank you for the positive review.

I'm sorry that you couldn't find us straight away. The council did permit us some directional signage, but has since decided there is too much clutter on the roadsides and so removed it all. They say that satellite navigation and online information are widely available and that guests ought to be able to find us easily. They know best!

Future visitors might like to know that there are a number of information sheets available to download from our website, giving detailed instructions how to reach us from most points of the compass, as well as by public transport.

My wife and I stayed here for one night. We arrived around 21:00. The receptionist was very happy and cheerful on our arrival. We stayed in room 20, which was at the back of the hotel on the lower level. The room was a good size and with the usual spec ( tv, tea/coffee, iron, hairdryer, etc) There was free internet around the whole hotel which was good. There was another door which opened to the outside of the hotel. The breakast was very good, nice and hot and lots to choose from. The only thing which was a bit of a down side was that in the room the TV was inside a cupboard, which the door had to be left open. I nearly a couple of times caught the door which could have been a problem. Overall I would stay here again.

Excellent service, very helpful and friendly. We asked to have breakfast in our room and weren't charged for it. Were also given extra time to check out at no extra charge. Rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. But. Whilst we can't really fault the hotel we did exepect a little more from a hotel that charges #100 a night.

A lovely manor house with views over the Surrey hills. I booked in for one night and stayed for two. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. My room was excellent and the food was exceptional. Thank you all. my stay with you couldn't have been better 10 out of 10.

I have stayed in this hotel for 2 months last May and have also held a conference at the conference centre. I stayed in one of the rooms downstairs(definatley the best ones). The rooms were lovely, spacious, clean with a lovely view and modern furnishings and bath. The breakfast was excellent, I preferred ordering an omlette but you can order saucages, baked beans, eggs, bacon etc etc. there is also a cold buffet. I also ate in the hotel and the food is really good. The hotel is not as central as other Godalming hotels I've been to but is definately the most comftable and beautiful one. As a down point, there isn't much to see by the hotel if you are hot by car. so no shops etc nearby. The area araound the hotel is more a residential area.

We spent our wedding night there, with two friends and our two boys. It was last minute as the other hotel we had book went wrong and how glad am I that it did. Manor house is truly a beautiful place. Rooms are gorgeous, very clean. The interior is very clean, lovely old building. gardens immaculate. Breakfast the next morning was lovely hot and tasty and a great selection. Every staff we meet were very friendly. We are planning to go back without our boys and I can't wait.

We took over The Manor House for the weekend to accomodate friends and family who had come to celebrate our wedding in a venue locally. From the moment we were given a "show around" last year to the time we left on Sunday, the staff at The Manor House have been superb! They accomodated all our requests and looked after our friends and family and their requirements over the course of the weekend. On arrival on Friday they provided an excellent evening meal at a very reasonable price and Lisa, the Food and Beverage Manager really ensured that everyone was happy, well fed and content!
The hotel is in its own lovely grounds with great views of the countryside. The communal areas are very comfortable and relaxing, the new bar is extremely classy with a great upmarket feel, with a stunning wine cellar. The rooms have all the standard ammenities, both standard and deluxe rooms are finished to a very good standard. The Manor House has a lovely feel and character about it, our guests really enjoyed their stay there. It really was perfect for us given the weekend that was in it!
I would highly recommend this hotel for many different stays, if you are looking for somewhere to accomodate a large group this is perfect. If you are looking for a nice place to stay for a weekend in the Surrey countryside or for business then I reckon The Manor House fits the bill! Another great advantage is its proximity to the A3 and Godalming town center. In my opinion its fitting that this wonderful hotel is situated in such a wonderful part of Surrey County!

Whilst our focus is firmly on providing conference facilities for corporate customers, the Manor House is full of the character and charm you might expect from a country hotel. Meeting rooms all have natural daylight and many have stunning views or beautiful features such as old fireplaces, paneling or intricate plasterwork. And if you want to add a little extra to your conference, we have a meeting room specially designed to help creative thinking and can help with team building activities from treasure hunts to duck herding!Locally, if you do get a chance to go and explore, there's quite a list of places worth a visit including Denbies Vineyard, England's largest, Loseley House, the RHS gardens aat Wisley and Polesdon Lacey. Closer to home, a short walk away, Godalming is a picturesque market town with a pretty high street and a small selection of shops, whilst nearby Guildford is a busy, affluent town with great shops, restaurants and entertainment.
