“Food was amazing - room was fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

I really enjoyed the food here it was top notch. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful if a little busy (the challenge of serving lots of people outside). Normally that would have annoyed me but I was in no rush so it was fine.
The rooms are well appointed and have been refurbished recently. Everything is spotless and feels well maintained. Couple of small gripes - the room was very tight and there is no aircon so it was hot (now it was in the middle of a heatwave so...) No trouser press which is a problem for a business traveller. Shared iron in the hall cupboard.

All in all good and I would try again. Did I mention the food was amazing!

Recommended by local friends, so thought we'd book for my birthday lunch.
Due to the closure of A3 at Guildford, had to take a long detour and got slightly lost! anyway, phoned ahead to explain our predicament. The lady was most helpful and gave us some directions and our late arrival would not be a problem. The riverside setting is lovely and we spent a long leisurely lunch under the large umbrellas, enjoying lovely food and wine. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly and we will certainly return! (oh and Andy Murray becoming the Wimbledon men's champion helped the celebrations!)

Arrived at 22.00 to a very warm welcome from Lizi at reception, who showed us to our room.
How quaint. This is an 18c inn, and the walls and floors, on a slant, show it beautifully.

Well appointed, small bedroom, and good bathroom with quality toiletries and large fluffy towels. A

As a welcoming bottle of Hoggs Back Ale with two glasses had been left for us, we went and sat at a table by the river, relaxing to the sound of running water.

Breakfast next morning, and my wife and I had the dining room to ourselves for a great continental breakfast.

We returned at 12.00 for lunch, and again sat by the river, the pub slowly filling with diners, all being well attended to by the staff, who were all very accommodating and cheerful.

What more could one wish for?.........and how quintessentially English!

Definitely not your run of the mill inn room and a lovely setting directly on the river. Our room and bathroom were very clean, nicely decorated and well appointed. The service was friendly and efficient throughout our stay. We booked their Sunday night dinner, bed and breakfast special (Three course dinner, no exclusions from their main menu, expanded continental breakfast and en-suite room) and thought this was exceptionally good value for £95.

We stayed last weekend in this pub that offers nice rooms. The location is great, the pub offers good meals, breakfast, wine, ice creams and of course beer. The terrace is beautiful. Only...the beds are a bit small for 2 people. Big thumb up for the personnel, very kind. We were a group and we all enjoyed it. I would definitely advice a short stay, also just for a meal

Having waited 45 minutes for our lunch of pate and sardines ( Waitress"Sorry I forgot to put order in!!) I then tried to get to toilet on crutches ,no disabled or easy access here, made it but left without waiting for sweet or coffee> Manageress apologetic but suggested that disabled should book in advance perhaps then they will find disabled parking space as there is not a designated one .Will refer to District Council and County Council

Had lunch with wife and three friends yesterday. Lunch was very good: service efficient and friendly; food was tasty pub fare eg upmarket burger, fish and chips, and a good range of fresh salads. Also, some interesting items on the specials board which changes every day, and a really enticing list of desserts. But the one thing that distinguished this attractive, traditional pub in a great setting by the river is the service. One of us had a problem with the main course as it did not match the menu description. Not only did the manageress immediately replace the meal with a completely fresh one but, without any prompting whatever, insisted that she would discount the dish from our bill. This was done without fuss. An Impressive response and we thanked her for her professional approach. So, a great find and we've already booked our next visit.
