“Walking stop point”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Really fantastic staff, both the lady on the desk and the gentleman in the kitcen was friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was great and fab value for money.

The room was basic (as we thought it would be) and could do with some TLC and a bigger radiator as it was a bit cold.

Location couldnt be better for Ingleborough and surrounding walks.

Not sure what people want from hostels but as a family on a tight budget we were delighted to be next to a playground and swimming pool with views over the valley and viaduct. Sure it needs a paint etc (actually someone was giving a quote whilst we were there) but we go for settings - Ingleton Falls is a must - over interior design and YHAs are always good for the former. The price paid - £80 for 4 for 3 nights can't be beaten in such a setting in summer holidays. Our kids made friends as usual and the staff were very helpful in recommending suitable walks for little legs. The showers were the best we have experienced in hostels and toilets were ample and clean. The beds were fine too. In fact I slept better at this hostel than at others. The kitchen could do with a few more bits and bats - a grater would be welcome and some more clean tea towels but can't complain really. We also caught the train to Dent - which is a cheap and quick trip for the smalls in fabulous countryside - the two dales are very different, just don't expect Dent village to be anywhere near (over 4 miles away). Nice cakes for sale in the village too. And yes the guinea fowl wandering round the village are great but odd.

Room Tip: We had a 4 bed near the top of the stairs which was fine with views, whilst over car park, that go a...

We stopped off here on the way down to Wales as a same cost alternative to a family room in a budget hotel. Ingleton is a really interesting village but its charm and the bizarre serenade from the guinea fowl in the churchyard didn't make up for the run down and grubby feel of the hostel itself. It may feel friendlier when busy but a warmer welcome and some investment in the appearance and maintenance of the building would be a big help. We were disappointed after our enjoyable experience at other YHA hostels.

Tiny Ingleton village - on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, has understandably been a tourist mecca since the Victorian period. It is charming, quirky, and absolutely full of character and history. The hostel is an old 'Gentleman's' residence, which sadly has rather gone to pot. It is located in a lovely spot near parkland, and the river, but the building itself needs a lot of work - sooner than later. Dorms are average and reasonably clean, as is the members kitchen. There are plenty of showers and toilets - though none on the ground floor. However the residents lounge is dark, drab, and unbelievably bleak. Definitely needs an injection of colour, comfort, and decent lighting! It would so make a difference - there really isn't much excuse...
