“Home from Home in Helmsley !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012 via mobile

Spent the weekend in Helmsley for our wedding anniversary and a pre Xmas family get together. Recommended 54 by a relative and couldn't have been more pleased. Welcome, and hospitality of a standard rarely seen in this country. Lizzie could not have done more for us to make our stay memorable. Needed a long walk around Duncomb Park to walk off one of the best Sunday breakfasts I have had in a long time. Will definitely return as it is an excellent base in lovely Helmsley to discover North Yorkshire from.

Lovely welcome from Lizzie and of course Ruby the Cairn Terrier.

We stayed at 54 because we were attending a wedding at the very old MInster.

The three rooms are better than one might expect and the breakfast is not to be missed.
Arrival is not before late afternoon so there will be time to look around the main square in Helmsley,(5 minutes walk away from 54) and its many shops. This includes one very well known dress shop.
There are a number of very nice coffee shops to try before meeting with Lizzie.
Parking is on the street and one can usually find a space close to 54.
An earlier review gives all the details you will require to decide to stay with Lizzie at 54.

Room Tip: Depends on whether one wants to have a bath or a shower.

We stayed for two nights as we were attending a wedding nearby.

Owner Lizzie was very friendly from the moment we called to make our enquiry and continued to be so throughout our stay. We weren't sure what to expect but were full of smiles as we were greeted by lovely and well behaved Westie, Ruby and then shown to a well kept and tasteful room. We had the one with a bathroom and it was spacious, warm and had TV, radio and tea/coffee making facilities with fresh milk, no cartons here!

Lizzie was continuously helpful, answering all our questions and even offering to do our ironing for us.

Breakfast was fantastic. So much choice! Everything from natural yoghurt to warm compote, seeds or cereals, whatever took your fancy, before locally sourced cooked breakfast was offered.

We would thoroughly recommend No. 54 to anyone staying in North Yorkshire. It's in a great location and Lizzie, Ruby and anyone else dropping in make you feel incredibly welcome.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 1 night stay in this lovely guest house.Lizzie is a wonderful host who makes you feel very welcome. The rooms are set in a courtyard and are tastefully decorated with all the extra special touches and are spotlessly clean.Super breakfasts will a good selection.I am looking forward to returning to Helmsley for another stay.

The accommodation is excellent: comfortable with thoughtful little touches (cotton wool pads and good toiletries in the bathroom, good range of magazines, wine glasses available etc). The breakfast was truly wonderful with a phenomenal choice. The range of cooked breakfasts displayed on the noticeboard was inspired and the results were delicious. Veggies are sometimes sidelined in the cooked breakfast stakes but here was exceptional.

My only reservations: the walls could be thicker… we could hear the neighbours on both sides and the beds were too soft for me!

Hi there

Thank you so much for your positive review of No54. I thought I might let you know that we've won the Deliciouslyorkshire award for Best Use of Local Produce on a Menu for a B&B 2012/2013 so we were delighted that you so enjoyed your breakfast.

I have taken the other points on board and are looking into new mattresses.

Best wishes

Lizzie

We stayed here for four days in this delightful market town and No 54 was the perfect place to stay. The warm and friendly welcome we received from Lizzie made us realise instantly that we'd enjoy it, particularly when we were greeted with tea and a homemade chocolate cake in the dining room of this idyllic cottage. The three rooms overlooking the charming garden are equiped with everything one could wish for. The breakfasts were superb with quality produce from local suppliers. If the homemade flapjacks are served at breakfast, along with the local artisan breads, I guarantee you'll find them irrestibile.

I stayed here with some girlfriends, just looking for something different to do from typical nights out in larger towns and cities.
I have to say No 54 is the best B&B I have stayed in. The rooms are gorgeous, decorated beautifully, nice and clean, complimentary toiletries (always a winner for me!) and comfy beds. The best bit for me were the patio doors which opened into the cute country garden - perfect for when the sun is shining as it was when we stayed.
A 2 minute walk (if that) from the market square of Helmsley, which we loved too. A small number of pubs/restaurants but this was absolutely fine for us as we were really just looking to relax and enjoy being away from home rather than having a wild night out.
The gorgeous weather meant we could take advantage of the lovely garden terrace while enjoying a bottle of wine and the owner Lizzie made us feel very welcome to do this.
You couldn't fault breakfast either - cereals fruits and yoghurts, followed by toast and a tasty English Breakfast made with locally sourced ingedients.
I would stay here again without a doubt and my parents have already made a note of it for when they are next in the area.

Room Tip: The room I stayed in had a bath with a shower attachment (i.e not attached to the wall) this was fin...
