What a day out! Located in a secret location, Behind the village of Helmsley lies Duncombe Park, within which lies the International Birds of prey centre.
Not well signposted, so my top tip is follow the signs for Duncombe park.
Just newly opened (Easter 2013), but already stuffed with Birds of prey.
On entering you are given a wrist band, which allows you to come and go as you please.
When we visited today there was a baby owl behind the reception desk. Cute and a great start to our visit.
I visited with my family of Husband, & two boys aged 8 & 10. Both children enjoyed their visit, taking lot's of photo's. This is definitely one place where you will get some use out of your camera. The very friendly staff are happy to answer any and all questions you ask them, not always the case everywhere you go, but here all the staff asked, where happy to talk about the birds in their care.
Also a highlight of this centre is the great tea room. Food is prepared fresh as you order it. I had steak & ale pie, Loverly I would recommend it restaurant quality, not greasy cafe. Both hot & cold food sold. Top tip leave room for the homemade cake. However there are plenty of places for you to have a picnic if you so wish. Which would make it cheaper.
We took in two of the flight displays. They fly different birds at the different displays.
Would be good for a schools visit too, which they are set up for, I was told.
Go! It's a great family day out,
