I had lunch here this afternoon and was not disappointed. The venison burger special was delicious. Highly recommended

We eat at The Feathers every year on our visit to
Helmsley so this year booked ahead for Sunday evening dinner! We were really looking forward to it as it's always been so good! Our first disappointment was being put in a room out the back but they were busy so we went with it. My daughter and I went for the carvery. The meat was OK but the veg had definitely been sitting there a whole! The peas were so old they'd turned white and the mushy peas has a skin on! We gave them a miss! The roast potatoes were all soft on the outside as they'd also been there some time! I'd like to say my husband's food was better but the steak was overcooked and chewy and the chips limp and greasy! On the upside the staff were polite and friendly but we won't be returning! We will head across the road to The Royal Oak which may not look as good but turned out great food for half the price!

Ate here on both nights of our stay, mainly because not much else was open, but was not disappointed at all. The food was delicious, and a decent portion, served promptly. The wine and beer were also good value.

Just finished eating here for the second night in a row as we are staying at another hotel where the food wasn't to our taste.

First night I ate the chicken parmagiano which was lovely and my husband had the steak and ale pie which was also very tasty. The chips, veg and salad served with these were great and veg was cooked just right (not mushy). Both meals were served within good time and nice and hot.

Because the meal the first night was great we chose to go there again tonight, unfortunately we weren't as impressed.
We both had the chicken liver pate for starter which was lovely but was too much for a starter.
I had the rack of lamb from the specials board. This came quite overcooked, and with very little actual meat on it, it was very tough and the sauce that came with it was thick and gloopy and had a slight skin on it.
My husbands rib eye steak was nice but his chips were no where near as good as the previous night. They were undercooked and had a funny taste to them, almost like they had been cooked in a cleaner of some kind.
We mentioned this when we came to pay and they did apologise and take the lamb off our bill which we were happy with as it cost a lot for what you got.

Overall, slightly expensive for what you get and food not always great but staff were friendly and kind and the beer/wines on offer are good.

Today was our 3rd visit over 7 years so not a regular visitor.
The food quality, choice & level of service at each visit has been exemplary.
Thoroughly recommend this establishment.
Will choose this restaurant over the many good alternatives in this village.
