“Service and food to match.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

One of the best restaurants we have been to. The flavoured breads are class as is the lobster and squid. Mains and puddings are also great. The service is very good these days as most places seem to care this is not so at Beaumanns. We will be back ASAP.

“Disappointing food, cold restaurant & indifferent welcome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Nice looking restaurant with a good diverse menu promising something different. We arrived and the 2 staff were a bit flustered (although we were only amongst 3 other tables), the dark haired young lady failed to take the coats or ask us if we wanted a dring for ages, the restaurant was cold as they had not turned on the heating (and the door was often left open - it needs an automatic shutting mechanism) and she got into a mild arguement with a couple from the next table who complained it had taken 30 minutes for her to fetch their drinks or take there order. We finally got a couple of drinks and orderred (the other waitresses were lovely) - breads were pretty poor - soggy garlic/pesto bread (could do with more crunch), my lobster starter was well presented but pretty bland but Janes starter ( a 'dogs dinner') was disappointing (the fried bread didn't tast good - too fatty flavoured - they should have just toasted the bread). Janes fish wasn't too her taste & the potato had too much saffron in it, my steak was okay but the very sweet sauce disn't go with it. The chips tasted of fat and the red cabbage horrible! Cheeses were eclectic but nothing particularly pleasant. Peach tart okay but didn't go with the basil flavoured clotted cream. I think they need to do some work on the taste combinations and the front of house welcome.

“Expensive but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We had Sunday lunch here with the family the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. They had just lost there power and were in a bit of a flap but when it came back they worked there socks off to get us some food. The Menu was a little fussy but we all picked a different choice and on the whole was pleased with our choices. The only complaint was the Cheese Board the small piece of cheese given was a insult to put on a cracker.

“Mortgage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

I unwittingly took my wife out for her birthday lunch on a recent trip to Essex. Coggeshall is a lovely quaint little village not far from Cressing Temple Barns which we were visiting. Unfortunately in torrential rain, it is not always easy to have a look around for places to eat, so we chose one that had a good recommendation. If you like pretentious fine dining for Sunday lunch and can afford to take out a second mortgage then this is the place to go!
For starter, I got 1 prawn and a thimble of queen scallops drenched in ginger, served on a l;arge slate. My wife was pleased to anticipate her "ScotchEgg" combo starter - but disappointed when it (or thould I say one quarter of an egg) arrived. The waitress then brought us two bowls of soup which we hadn't ordered, and then took them away as they were for someone else. The traditional Sunday roast was certainly delicious, but slightly quirkly, being a chopped up sirloin steak with the potatoes inside the Yorkshire pudding. All this and pudding as well for only £57 for two. Has Master Chef got to them!
