“Lovely room, ideal location for Monkey World”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

Lovely clean large room with a decent size shower, and a friendly welcome. Did all we wanted for a night's stay. One "Brucie Bonus" is its above the pub so I could have a drink and did not need to drive home. Breakfast was also good. We would stay again if and when we are in the area.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014 via mobile

I have been to the royal oak on two occasions to eat, December 2013 and recently June 2014. On both occasions I was with a group of 7 - 10 guests and arrived unannounced. On both occasions the staff were willing to accommodate our party without hesitation. They have a wide selection of meals displayed on a board in the dining area. On both occasions the food has been good quality, which appears to be locally sourced and we have really enjoyed it. I will definitely visit again if passing by in the future.

My family booked all 3 rooms that are available. All the rooms have been recently refurbished. Our room was large with a beautiful wooden bed. The shower was large and very good, plenty of hot water. Jeanette and her team were all very friendly and helpful, going beyond the call of duty to help us. The full English breakfast even had homemade hash browns. I would highly recommend to my friends.

Room Tip: All 3 rooms are good. We stayed in room 1.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch. What a nice place it was, real old English pub type place with a real bar and genuine locals. The food that we ordered was well presented and really well cooked, excellent. I an recommend this place to anyone who wants good value for money food with good service

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Royal Oak and we couldn't fault it. It's really well situated for getting around Dorset so would recommend it.

Jeanette and the team do an excellent job and all of the staff are very friendly. They all make sure you feel very welcome.

Room
We stayed in room 3 (the purple room on their website). The rooms are very luxurious. All rooms have been re-furbished and Jeanette has really spent time on them to make them modern and comfortable. Soft robes are provided and slippers. The room is at the front so overlooks the road but it is a quiet village so you shouldn't be disturbed. If you are a light sleeper then enquire if the other two rooms are more to the back.

Food
Arrived after 9pm due to very bad traffic and the kitchen had closed but Jeanette offered to cook us something which was a god send. Had our first taster of the Dorset sausage which is lovely.
We ate at the Royal Oak for the next two nights and the food was really good; Red Thai curry and Green Thai curry one night and we both had steak the second night. All dishes were really good. The only thing I would suggest is that they offer a more choice of potato aside from chips, perhaps new potatoes or jacket.
Breakfast was fantastic, a full English which sets you up for the day. We didn't need anything else until dinner!
On Sundays food is served until 4pm so as we were out all day, we ate in The Drax Arms in the evening and had a lovely roast so if you don't make it back to eat at The a Royal Oak then head up to The Drax Arms.

Overall, we had an excellent stay and would definitely return. Thank you Jeanette and your team for making us feel so welcome.

We were staying in the village and wanted somewhere to eat at night. The Royal Oak looked inviting so in we went, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We chose from an extensive menu and both had veggie burgers with chips and salad, the food was excellent, very well cooked and presented, we would happily return if in the area again!
