“Lovely weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

We had a lovely weekend in Teignmouth, staying at old salty house. Sarah is very welcoming and accommodated our changed plans, bicycle and injuries. Breakfast is fresh and tasty and the room we had was quiet, clean and spacious. Great location although go for the back room as the front rooms may be a little too close to the street which has a couple of noisy pubs on it when the sun is out on a long weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for the room at the back. It's the quietest.

we stayed from 17th may till 19th may and had a lovely time . the room we stayed in was so comfortable down to the little things like the tea and coffee and the cookies (what a lovely touch ) The owner sarah is lovely she even waited in for us as we didnt get there till after 7 and she had plans of her own that evening. The breakfasts are a must . And the crab shack is just round the corner which the sea food plater is wonderful . I hope to stay at the old salty house again later in the year.

We stayed at Old Salty for three nights over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We had a lovely stay and would agree with pretty well all the recent comments from other guests. The house is charming, very 'bijoux' but all the more welcoming for that. Our room was very well equipped (especially liked the chocolate chip cookies in the room...which my wife didn't know I'd eaten but I think she will do now!).

The location is very good indeed, one or two minutes max from the promenade and beach, plenty of pubs and restaurants within a minute of the front door (one immediately opposite, if you're feeling especially lazy) and even though it doesn't have its own parking, you can offload immediately opposite as there's a loading bay outside the restaurant; and bags of long stay car parks within five minutes of the property.

The room was spotlessly clean and Sarah seems always to be on hand if you have any queries or questions. The breakfast was absolutely top notch. It's the main reason we stay in places like this. You can stay in an expensive hotel anywhere in the world but you will NOT get a breakfast to come close to a really good English B&B breakfast...and this is one of the very best we've had.

Any issues at all? Only one. We're fresh air fiends and so we have all the windows wide open at all times. That weekend the town was especially busy and so we did get a bit of noise from the road outside, but if you were at the back of the property you wouldn't hear it. A minor issue but in fairness to Trip Advisor readers, if you want absolute silence you might not find it if you have the room which fronts the road.

Would we go back? In a heartbeat. Very good value for money, first class service and attention to detail, and Teignmouth is a wonderful traditional seaside town. We'd especially recommend the Ship Inn and The Crab Shack on the Beach for food.

Go there, you won't be disappointed.

A clean and tidy establishment well run with a superb breakfast and a warm welcome Sarah was a great host and i would happily stay here again the only downside is you have to find car parking but there are plenty of car parks with a fixed price for an all day stay

I've never been to Teignmouth before, but if I go again I would not hesutate to stay here! Great location between station and the sea.
Super room, beds, shower bathroom tea and coffee stuff.
Vegan breakfast was great, really went the extra mile to make me feel welcome.

This is my second time staying with Sarah at Old Salty Cottage. The house is very quiet, the rooms are very sweet with en-suite bathrooms. Breakfast is AMAZING. Sarah is available to give you any information you need, and is endlessly patient with questions.

Room Tip: Both rooms I stayed in fronted onto Northumberland Place but don't worry - it's a very quiet...

My partner and I stayed at Old Salty House from 1 to 4 April 2013, and were impressed from the outset by Sarah's down-to-earth and friendly hospitality. We were booking at short notice but Sarah made us feel welcome both in our initial call and on arrival. The house is right between the two beaches, and a minute or two from the quayside. Next door is what is claimed to be Keats's house. Old Salty House is old and characterful, which does mean the odd creaky floorboard, but is clean with modern, homely decor. The room was clean, tidy and uncluttered, with good hanging and drawer space. We were in a very comfy super kingsized bed (two single beds securely linked together and dressed with one sheet). The en-suite bathroom (shower and sink) was well arranged and gleaming. Breakfast was great - flexibility about timing within reason, and a good range of hot and/or cold options, including some tasty local chipolatas. Good value and highly recommended.
