“Lovely hotel one of favourites, great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Let me start by praising the 2 guys who run this hotel/restaurant .....perfect always welcoming always polite, not formal .... I feel part of their family already.

I travel to this area a lot and this has become my favourite place

The food s just perfect and they will make what you want or adapt as you feel fit but f you leave them to it, it's fantastic.

Sometimes they have students who are training for their chefs course, this is fun, food is always great and maybe you will be served by a future Raymond blanc !

The area has lots to do and many walks. They have a crazy gold and I think a Dutch equivalent of a bowling alley - I think but I always relax in their restaurant or by the huge roaring open fire.

There is always a but, the rooms are very functional and very clean but some could do with a refurbish, but don't let that put you off, the atmosphere, the food and the service are perfect... Well done

Ps I thought not to write this review as its not nice to have too many invaders in my second home!

Their restaurant is fabulous! We had a suberb dinner here, so if you stay at Ros Van Twente, dine there, too. Actually, the food was so delicious that it alone would be good enough a reason to stay at this hotel. Breakfast was good, too. Furthermore, the staff were really nice, friendly and polite in a relaxed, not pretentious, way. The common areas, eg the breakfast and dining areas and lounge, were very comfortable and elegant, as was the garden/ park with a pond. One more thing, the hotel is less than 5 minutes from the motorway, yet has a divinely peaceful and beautiful location.
Our Confort Room was quite comfortable and practical but the decor was pretty tired and dated, probably from the 80's, so if you stay there, ask for a newly refurbished room as they have some of them, too. Our room had a balcony, which was nice, and a truly relaxing and tranquil view with ponies on a field, etc, so that compensated a lot for the room, though.

Room Tip: ask for a refurbished room Confort rooms have a balcony or a patio

We stayed for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday. From the first night, the kitchen sent out dish after dish of amazing food. The cuisine was local, seasonal and well-prepared. A feast for your mouth and eyes. Willem and his young but well-trained staff were the perfect mix of charm, friendliness and yet still being knowledgable about food and wine. None of that pretentious cooking we find in the Randstad, just pure ingredients cooked in incredibly imaginative combinations. The lounge and dining areas are extremely cosy and I was tempted to just sit and hang out in front of the fireplace with my partner for the whole weekend but unfortunately our dog (yes, dog friendly establishment too!) did not agree. The estate is located near wonderful parks and reservations. Do make use of that if you love to walk/bike.
All in all it was an almost perfect stay....here's where Het Ros van Twente gets schizophrenic. We booked a comfort room, we got one on the ground floor as they suggested it would be more convenient with our dog. They were right. However, the room looks nothing like the images they advertise with. It looked like an 80s remnant. That's fine, it was comfortable, if you overlook the scratchy towels, sheets, dodgy carpet. I understand the rest of the hotel was under renovations. I'm sure this is just a one off.
The breakfast and morning crew (one lady) was so different from the dining staff/experience. Perhaps the disappointment was greater due to the amazing dinners. Breakfast was standard, varied but lacking the most basic things. Like hot water for tea. The kettle was obviously empty and when I asked for more hot water, said lady was less than pleased. Could I not use the steam part of the coffee machine instead? Sure...sorry I had to ask. The bread and home made jams were excellent, but I was most surprised to find them serving sausage/pâté with the rind still attached and you could see bits of paper sticking onto the sides. That was just gross. Also the 'juices' were from concentrate. Fine, but the grapefruit juice actually tasted like after you threw up...so I would avoid those in the future. So a word of advice for Het Ros van Twente, please change your breakfast crew/cook. She does not have the style and grace of the rest of the establishment. No one likes to be grunted to in the mornings (yes, she does not answer but rather grunts...unhappily).
Dear Willem, thank you for your amazing hospitality. We would love to come back, but will probably skip breakfast in the future and just save our appetites for dinner instead.
