This is a lovely hotel situated in an ideal position in Santa Sussana with Malgrat de Mar within a few hundred yards walking distance.I have rated it a three star as although it is an ideal position close to the beach, bars, restaurants and shops, the food left a lot to be desired. We always go with an open mind when we book our annual mother and daughter(adult) long weekend break and I realise we did get this hotel for a bargain price on Trivago with halfboard being just a few pounds more than bed and breakfast. The brekkie was great and more than adequate with fried eggs being cooked fresh and one morning we even had freshly made pancakes, the only downside being the fresh juice which was like drinking sickly syrup, but when it came to the evening meal the majority of it was lukewarm with a lot of unedible samey breaded ingrediants, the meat was all dried up and the fish looked like it was full of bones,if we had stayed any longer than three nights I think we would have given up and gone to the local restaurants. Also be aware if you are on the last sitting which is 8:45pm by 9pm the restaurant staff are cleaning up around you and you will be very lucky if you are asked if you would like a drink with your meal, you will feel rushed and will have to eat whatever food they have left as they wont replace it.
If you are reading this review before booking this hotel, then go ahead and book but my advise is do so on a bed and brekkie basis,if you are reading this review and have already booked halfboard or even fullboard dont panic as like I said above it is a very nice hotel, just take some extra cash as you will probably want to eat out a few nights and you will be able to do this quite cheaply as their are lots of restaurants around the hotel offering cheap mealdeals.
The entertainment in the hotel was good on the Sat night it was flamenco on the Sun Viva Brasil and the drinks in the hotel are a good price.
We had a room on the side of the hotel, overlooking the Alhambra hotel next door and although the entertainment was quite loud dot on 12am it was turned off we just sat on our balcony and watched.
Reception staff at this hotel were ok some were nice and polite and a couple were just plain rude still nevermind I think you get that wherever you may travel these days.
The hotel was spotless and clean,as were the rooms but again beware it can be quite noisy as the walls are paperthin.
Would we stay again we most certainly would but only on a bed and breakfast basis.

I would only recommend this hotel as a bed and breakfast and advise that people look at kings bar next door for the breakfast, the food in the hotel was disgusting very poor quality and most hot dishes where actually cold, staff rather ignorant apart from very helpful cleaning staff who kept rooms as clean as the could possibly do

Excelllent food choice and quality and polite helpful staff. unfortunately at night it has a hotel some 50 yards away that has entertainment on every night from 8pm until midnight and it is noisy.IF you have a room facing the swimming pool you will be able to watch the entertainment.
There is also a night club about the same distance away and at about 3.30am to 4.30am you can hear the people leaving and congregating across the road at the hotdog stand.
We would stay at the riviera again if it was somewhere else.
BE AWARE.

Room Tip: Due to the noise you probably do not want a room overlooking the riviera's swimming pool.

Having read lots of reviews for this hotel I was under no illusions regarding what to expect. I had been to Santa Susanna in 1970 when there were just a couple of hotels; I had stayed at the Reymar just down the road and that was ok.
The Riviera is a low cost hotel and for the price they do very well. I found that if you greeted the staff with a smile you would get one in return. Reception desk staff were helpful particularly when I had a problem with my return transfer notification. Maid service is excellent, fresh towels and sheets daily. As mentioned elsewhere, walls are paper thin so take earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The music at the Alhambra next door goes on until midnight so don't even think about going to bed until then.
The food is ok, but the buffet set up is a melée of colliding bodies. Breakfast grub is really good, but the queue for the slow, heaving coffee machines is a nuisance, especially when you need a caffeine fix. Tip: if you leave your table during the meal to fetch something, leave your meal ticket by your plate so your stuff isn't cleared away by the eager bus-ladies.
Dinner could feature some odd foods, but there is always a chef grilling fresh fish or meat and you can always have salads which are plentiful and fresh. Don't know about lunch, I went half board.
Drinks at the bar are reasonably priced: €1.50 for cafe con leche and €2.50 for a pint of draught San Miguel. Staff generally are hard working and will be as pleasant with you as you are with them.
The resort of Santa Susanna is thriving these days and there are lots of gift shops, bars, cafés and tapas joints. Malgrat de Mar is but a short walk away, but the Carrefour and Lidl stores will have to be reached by bus.
The beach is lovely, only about 100 yards away, with coarse sand that doesn't cling, but you are constantly bothered by hawkers and massage girls. A lounger costs €5 for half a day and a parasol is also €5. The sea is clean, but the sea bed drops away about ten feet offshore so you should be able to swim at least somewhat.
Take a train trip to Barcelona for the day. A return ticket costs just €8.60 for adults and the trains run about every half hour. Tips: Get the train at Malgrat station rather than Santa Susanna which can be ridiculously crowded; ask for "ida y regresso" meaning return, or show your Catalan by asking for "anado i tornado."
English is widely spoken, but you will be appreciated if you can use some key Spanish phrases and almost worshipped if you can use a little Catalan.
Lastly, be sure to visit Phil and family at The Drunken Duck pub; turn left outside the hotel, then left again at the alleyway, just after the San Jordi. They have plenty of British grub, British snacks and sandwiches, plus Sky Sports for football. His son runs The Drunken Duckling in the other direction just by the Alhambra. Other Brit bars are The Robin Hood, The Eureka which just had its 50th anniversary in Malgrat and a couple of others I've forgotten the names of.

Room Tip: Rooms on the east side, overlooking the San Jordi are quieter

I stayed here for a few days in july, on arriving i shared a joke with the receptionist who seemed pleasent enough, but when asked for my transfer coach time i was given incorrect time twice which led to me missing coach and paying 60 euro for taxi to girona (not happy) have contacted hotel and shuttle direct (poor service there too) got nowhere apart from being told "at least you got home" no thanks to you. area is great and lively towards malgrat, get train to barcelona is a must and visit ramblas... next time i go i'm gonna have a word face to face and see if they fob me off in person.... lots of spaniards pestering young english girls outside clubs...you have been warned....

Room Tip: poolside good view but noisy til midnight

I think Valerie G was at a different hotel. We only stayed a couple of nights but found this hotel clean and comfortable and the variety of food was good. Admitted the music was extremely loud - from the hotel next door - but everying went off at midnight and we had very good undisturbed sleep. The bathroom was extremely small and cramped but hey you don't spend your holiday in the bathroom - had a shower AND a bath - don't always find that either. This hotel is extremely well located - just opposite the underpass to the beach, in the centre of the main shopping area and very close to some good bars and restaurants. Couldn't get over how cheap the drinks were - 3 euros for TWO glasses of wind - not top notch admittedly but drinkable and under 8 euros for a litre of Sangria. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: Don't rush out to grab a sunbed because the sun very quickly gets round to the whole of the pool...
