Golf Del Sur is the worst place I have ever stayed. Everything is so far apart, very expensive and basically like a cross between a bomb site and a building site. Maybe in 10 years time it may look a little more habitable. Stayed at the Las Adelfas complex which I cannot complain about and the airplanes never bothered us and certainly didn't hear many during the night. A car is definately a must unless you plan spending every minute playing golf which is all the resort is good for. The 'commercial centre' San Blas was a joke - most nights there was nowhere to eat and was very expensive. Could be cos the weather was awful most of the time we were there and all 3 of us were ill but I have definately been put off going back to Tenerife.

Having exchanged our two-week timeshare in Puerto Banus for an apartment in Golf del Sur, Tenerife, at the end of September/beginning of October 2004, we arrived at Tenerife South filled with trepidation, after reports of 'concrete jungles and aircraft noise over Golf del Sur'. We were so pleasantly surprised at the marvellous airport, our excellent accommodation, located minutes from the golf course with other courses close by, the beautiful weather, and the spectacular landscapes within a stone's throw. Yes, aircraft did appear overhead, but were not at all intrusive. We were particularly impressed with the National Park with its stunning scenery, excellent access on first-class but empty roads, the distinct absence of commercialism, and even a man sweeping a small but immaculate lay-by, designed for tourists to stop and admire the landscape! Amazing! We were so enchanted with our visit that we bought timeshare points and are booked to return twice in 2005, with plans to visit the north of the island and to spend time on La Gomera. Food was very inexpensive in San Blas, we had excellent and speedily delivered takeaways from Roy's - and are really looking forward to returning once more in May.

We were expecting what a lot of the reviews said - above average, yet we arrived at The Palms to find a run down, under repair, sad excuse for a resort. We were directly under the flight path which was OK for the kids but at 4a.m, when you cant close the doors due to there being no air-conditioning, it becomed a big pain the the ----. The staff were generaly nice and agreed the place was run down. The sales person even admitted they have put all the money into their other site further in the hills. By the way he did the usual trick of turning nasty when he realised we were not going to buy an appartment.
There are no childrens facilities either in the resort or down the 'square' which is the restraunt-bar area of Gold del sur.
We spent a fortune just taking our two sons to places out side the resort in order to keep them from getting bored.
On departure we were aloud a room to shower and change but due to their being no times allocated we were rushed out with only enough time to have a wash. The next couple were treated the same.
It seemed when they knew you were going they didnt care. One manager in particular was rude beyond belief.
If you love aircraft flying over all day and all night, play golf, are single and old then this area is for you.
If you have children, want a life, want to sleep, want a top holiday DO NOT GO THERE. There are plenty of other areas on the island that can provide goood service, excellent accomadation, kids activities and wonderful nightlife. We stayed at the Hollywood Mirage last year. We do not own a property there (we wouldent go down that line, its not for us) but would go back any day. It provided us with what a family holiday should be unlike The Pals in Golf der sur.

We have been to Golf Del Sur several times and love it.

It is fair to say that if aircraft noise will bother you then you would be better off trying somewhere else. We have always found it to be no problem at all and get used to it very quickly.

Golf Del Sur is not a place to go if you want to experience real Canarian/Spanish culture but then nowhere in south Tenerife is.

We would say a car is essential if you intend to go further than the square and even that is quite a walk (especially back up the hill) from some hotel/apartments. There are always plenty of taxis around the square and it is only a few Euros to any of the accomodation.

The very large supermarket near the motorway junction is superb if you are self catering, the fish display is a sight to behold.

If you like fish a visit to the neighbouring village of Los Abrigos is a must, there are about 12-15 fish restaurants in a row all competing for your business. Standards are high and prices are low. It can be the highlight of your holiday!

All in all we love Golf Del Sur and would recommend it to anyone who likes the idea of south Tenerife but is not into the Playa/Los Christianos lager and chips with everything scene.
