“Wonderful resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

We had a wonderful time at Sandos San Blas in June 2014. The resort is easy to get to and very close to the airport. Some find might this a hinderance, since it is within the flight path and you can see / hear planes overhead sometimes, but we considered this a benefit right before our flight. Upon arriving at the hotel, from the outside, the hotel looks like brown bunkers but from the inside the resort is very modern, clean and inviting. I really loved the atmosphere, which draws you in. The service we had throughout our stay was superb and I cannot fault it. Our room was a standard room near to reception with views of the resort and sea. We were very happy with the standard room and balcony, which suited our needs. The food was of a very high standard and frequently changing. We didn't have any complaints in that regard. In terms of the drink, the only minor complaint was that the house red wine (available as part of the all-inclusive package) was not to my taste and therefore I did not drink it. It seemed while we were there that the occupancy rate was low and therefore we had no problems finding lounge chairs near the pool. Even after breakfast, we had lots of choice and there was no stress scrambing for a place. This added to our relaxation. We went to one night show and enjoyed ourselves. Then, since our flight on Sunday was at 7PM, we opted to pay an additional fee (€35) to have a late check out until 4PM. After that, we signed up to use the free curtesy room for half an hour to shower and freshen up before catching a taxi to the airport. All in all, we had a great time and would love to come back!

Room Tip: I was glad that our room was close to reception and the main bar.

We went to this hotel on holiday, as two couples, best friends. We had 2 rooms, double deluxe. The rooms were beautiful and luxurious. The staff were very friendly, restaurant was lovely, with adult only dinning areas. The food was gorgeous, and deserts to die for. Beautiful infinity pools, also adult only pools. The hotel was exquisite. Would recommend highly, and will be going back again.

Hotel it's self is great and really clean and new but we went all inclusive which was the only thing I can fault ! The food was bland but edible and at least you didn't get ill which is something ! We ate in the a la carte for two of our meals and the first one was great but the second not so great! Pool areas are great and lots of beds and really clean. Needs more entertainment in the evening as there isn't much near by ! I also didn't like that the all inclusive finished at 11 which I think is a little tight for what we paid and I'm not a big drinker so it would have cost much to please me! I would have also expected water in the room for a five star hotel! Overall not the worst hotel but I would rush back !

This hotel is by far the best I have ever stayed in. 5* in every department. The food is great and different three times a day every day. The drinks are great with branded drinks available on the all inclusive. The entertainment is a cut above and varied. If you stay before mid June it will be inside in a room that can only be described as a small gig venue. After this time it is outside in front of the restaurant. The rooms were clean and modern with towels changed daily. All staff are helpful and cannot do enough. There is a free bus to Las Americas, which drops you at the border with Los Cristianos. It leaves and comes back twice daily. The al a carte restaurant is also very good. If I were to change anything the kids entertainment could be better, maybe another restaurant as you eat in the same place for all of your stay. San Blas is a 15 min walk maximum with a buggy where there is a little square with a few bars and restaurants. The tapas place is awsome. The seven islands is a good place for a pint.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

We are a couple that stayed at the Sandos San Blas resort for a 7-day all inclusive (July 2014).

Food
The food was of very high quality. There was a lot to choose from with multiple dishes of each cuisine; vegetarian, meat, fish. Numerous of dishes such as pasta, omelette, meat and fish were prepared individually by the chef at the buffet. Cold/salad buffet was very fresh with at least 10-15 different salads and vegetables to choose from. Yummy desserts. Wine, beer and drinks are of good quality too. Snack available between meals and several bars open to very late.

Room
A clean room with lots of space - including wardrobe, bathroom and balcony space. Huge beds – our room had 2 queen size beds put together. Well equipped with hangers in the wardrobes and shampoos, soaps etc. in the bathroom. Large bathroom with jacuzzi bath, separate walk-in shower and a separate toilet. Bathrobes and slippers are provided as well as free pool towels. Cleaning service throughout the whole week was excellent.

Activities & entertainment
Lots of optional (free and paid) activities to choose from. Wall climbing, Segway, Golf, Table tennis, Pool, Dart, Kayaking….. A hidden gem is the San Blas nature reserve walk (just behind the hotel). The staff managing the walks and the museum (in the hotel!) are great and knowledgeable. Definitely advise booking the San Blas nature reserve walk. It takes about 2 hours and involves tours of the museum and a large gallery in the hotel with displays and innovative films showing the history of Tenerife. Then we were taken on a 1 hour walk/tour of the park by an excellent guide. We never stayed very long for the evening entertainment but from what we saw the quality was good with different acts every evening – singers, acrobats etc.
Lots of swimming pools throughout the hotel complex and they were kept very clean and tidy at all times with plenty of sun lounges to choose from.

Couples vs. Family with children
Being a couple on holiday we think that the hotel did a very good job of entertaining the children with lots of activities for them to choose from – which effectively meant that they were kept away from adult by default. The kids seem to like it and we did too. Particular consideration was made as there were designated areas for adults in the restaurant to choose from, as well as with one of the pools that was for adults only. Children have designated pools as well.

Service
Staff was very friendly and helpful at all times. The hotel, restaurant and the pool areas were kept clean and tidy. Wifi – although free was a bit patchy throughout the resort – to the dismay of some and indifference of others. Computer room with lots of computers is available close to the reception with full internet access 24/7.

Airport & flights
The hotel complex is very close to the airport although planes did not bother us - the sound insulation in the hotel is excellent. Taxi journey is only 10-15 min from the hotel at a cost of €13-15.

Overall impression
Definitely a place we will go back to and that we recommend for other couples as well.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

This is the best 5* All Inclusive hotel I have visited! Food was high quality, extremely varied (definitely on par with cruises we have been on) in the main self-service restaurant, with numerous fish/meat/pasta/pizza/omelette dishes prepared individually by chefs. The desserts were spectacular - pastries and cakes so light they couldn't have contained any calories! The drinks available free were excellent quality - we mainly had wines and delicious more-ish cava! There were even named brand spirits. Comments made by others on additional costs for Jack Daniels, etc have obviously not been on other 5* All Inclusive holidays! Small bottles of water available everywhere and ice-cream readily available at all times. Minor criticism would be that the restaurant dress code was usually not imposed; some people were extremely scruffy in shorts and vests, even for dinner, and some guests (mainly women) were positively indecent!

Accommodation and facilities also of high quality; huge beds very comfortable - our room had 2 queen size single beds pushed together, or they would be made up as a massive double bed. TVs had English channels - BBC1 (London), BBC2, ITV(TyneTees), Channel 4, Film 4 and ITV2 so we could keep up to date with Wimbledon, World football and news. Plenty of wardrobe/shelf storage and a large bathroom with jacuzzi bath, separate walk-in shower & separate toilet/bidet, as well as two bowls and plenty of storage space. Bathrobes and slippers are provided as well as free pool towels. You can request tea/coffee making facilities in your rooms although we found the plugs difficult to access, being situated under desks and bedside cabinets! Efficient air-conditioning in the room as well.

Entertainment was also high quality with at least 2 acts each night - I don't think any of them were repeated in the 10 days we were there. Certainly nothing like the usual All Inclusive Animation Team rubbish usually served up at 5* hotels abroad. The only criticism would be that young children (who had already participated in their own disco/show) were not discouraged from shouting and running across the dance area in front of the stage during the acts - distracting for both guests and entertainers. Certainly, even four adoring grannies like us found this annoying on some evenings!

We didn't avail ourselves of sports facilities - climbing, tennis, kayaking, football etc but the swimming pools were great -warm water and one with sea water. Plenty of comfy sunbeds/robust umbrellas, including the modern double rattan beds with hoods. Signs said they couldn't be reserved but everyone did; however people did remove their towels in the afternoon and you could always move to a shadier spot.
Always seemed to be a breeze when we visited in late June/early July but this was welcome during the day otherwise it would have been too hot! However, in the evening it was often a bit chilly when watching outside entertainment, so advise ladies to take wraps or shrugs. Definitely advise booking the tour of the nature resort @ 7.5 euros. I had seen previous reviews otherwise I wouldn't have appreciated just how good this was. It isn't marketed that well and we had no idea what to expect. It takes about 2 hours and involves tours of 2 large galleries in the hotel with displays and innovative films showing the history of Tenerife, back thousands of years and explaining volcanic eruptions and the social/environment/ecological development through the centuries. Then we were taken on a tour of the park by an excellent guide, walking on some uneven ground through the quarry-like nature park, crossing a dam on a raft and a short drive in a golf buggy-type vehicle. There were 3 realistic animateurs dressed in relevant costume used to describe the traditions of this part of the Canaries.

Having been on this tour, one can then realise why the design of the hotel buildings, the decor and landscaping can truly be seen to be representative of the history of this region. The design of the buildings (green domed roofs to the restaurant with cave-like windows), terracotta and natural stone décor, with tunnels and water features, lava and stone landscaping with plants unique to the area, all add to a realistic interpretation of the historical natural habitat. Two of our group found the decor stark and unattractive but would have understood the design and concept if only they had been on the tour! Don't be put off by the somewhat stark uninspiring the grounds. We all agreed everywhere - inside and out - is clean and extremely well maintained.

The beach isn't mentioned in brochures etc and could have been improved; it is of large pebbles with just a few sunbeds and umbrellas. There is no easy access into the sea either, although we were quite happy with the hotel pools. There didn't seem to be any playground/sandpit for children anywhere.

Small shop open each day with plenty of English (and other) newspapers printed for the current day (instead of several days out of date), although not much else. That said, what else do you need when you have far too much delicious food and drink available all day and evening til 11pm!? Anyway there are 2 villages in close (fairly easy walking) distance on either side of the hotel complex: Los Abrigos, an authentic fishing village with a few restaurants/bars but few shops, and San Blas which appears to be a modern purpose-built timeshare village with a surprising number of reasonably-priced shops/cafes/pubs - we found the jewellery/clothes/gifts were much higher quality and cheaper than in Playa with non-aggressive shopkeepers ready to reduce prices even more!

The courtesy bus runs twice a day to Playa de Las Americas. This takes about 15 mins and is very efficient. We were not informed that many shops closed on Sundays so didn't get to experience the full retail opportunity! But many shops sell the same sort of goods you can get anywhere in the world - mostly made in the Far East and Indian continent! It would have been nice to have more than 2 bus trips each day, perhaps dropping off in Los Christianos as well. Although I assume taxis wouldn't have been expensive if we really did want to explore more places.

The hotel complex is very close to the airport although planes did not bother us - the sound insulation in the hotel is excellent. Don't bother paying tour operators for transfer charges though - it would be cheaper and quicker to get a taxi.

Free Wifi was available throughout the complex- a surprise after two Greek holidays which failed to provide this advertised facility!

We found all the staff extremely pleasant and efficient - even bar/restaurant personnel who were not just being friendly in order to attract tips! We have previously often found All Inclusive hotel staff to be surly and unhelpful. There seemed to be a high ratio of staff who all seemed to be proud and happy to be working there!

There is a separate "a la carte" restaurant called La Proa and you are entitled to one free visit per week (we had 2 for a 10-day stay). Ambience was lovely but the 3-course meal menu was the same both weeks, with 3 different choices each course. This was disappointing, especially as there is such a wide variety of food available at the main restaurant. We did not choose to pay to select live fish/lobster available there. We enjoyed the change of being served by attentive waiters in lovely surroundings overlooking the sea, but actually enjoyed the choice of food in the main restaurant.

All in all, we had a fabulous 10-day holiday, spent very little money, would definitely recommend this hotel and we'll certainly be returning! However, be prepared to put on weight!

Room Tip: We were in A block which is close to main restaurant. Disabled people may find accessibility restric...
