“Great quiet relaxing hotel....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We stayed here in Sept 2011 for a week and had a room overlooking the lake. We had such a great time we decided to go back for a second time 18th Dec 2012 for a week.
I emailed Senor Gil (hotel manager) a couple of weeks before to request the same room and on check in was so pleased they had honoured my request. Thank you for actioning my request.
It was great to arrive at check in and see a familiar face of Mini and at various bars Angel, Daniel etc etc....and to new staff Saskia reception and Angy entertainment staff and Vicky in the restaurant, who knew we wanted to be sat in Gomera every meal time. All the staff are kind helpful and very courteous even when English is not their first language. This has made us seriously want to learn Spanish so we can try and hold a conversation with the staff on our next trip...
Our room was midway from the restaurant and reception and the walk was lovely especially after eating all the great food in the restaurant.
We had prebooked La Proa for 22nd Dec and was a nice change from the Buffett and thoroughly enjoyed.
On our first trip we did the Sandos Environmental Tour and at a cost of €7.50 is well worth a morning learning all about the nature resort and it's history. You are walking on uneven ground so sensible foot wear and a bottle of water a must...
This trip we decided to get the free shuttle at 10am in Playa Des La Americas to have a look around the shops, and see how much it had changed since 1991!! Oh my goodness it's changed loads lol.. However we decided to get a taxi back as the bus collected at 5pm and we'd seen enough by 1.30pm and that cost €20 inc tip.. Well worth it.
Xmas eve saw Santa arrive on a Harley davidson great fun for all the kids.
We enjoyed our second stay as much as our first we are already looking at booking for Dec this yr. however we may go a little earlier as from 22nd dec the hotel did get busier and we loved it when it was quieter in the restaurants pool and bars..
Thank you once again for a great relaxing week in your fabulous hotel we will be back this yr for sure possibly twice if I can convince the husband!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are great however we love LA and LB which are over the lake, however they are sea view roo...

We stayed here for five nights at New Year. We booked a junior suite overlooking the lake and it was fantastic, the weather was rather windy on a couple of days but we were able to sunbathe on the balcony. Our room was midway from reception and the restaurant and we did not find the walk a problem. Our children attended the childrens club which was well run and entertained all. The mini disco in the evening finished the night for them nicely, however theyre seemed little in the evening for teenagers. A very relaxing trip.

Room Tip: Lake view/sea view suites provide a an excellent sun trap and the position minimises the wind

Dear Señor Gil (hotel Manager),
My family and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday at your amazing hotel and just wanted to say a big thank you to you and your outstanding staff. From the reception, to the pool, to the restaurants and bars, to the kids club we found all the staff to be kind, helpful and courteous. My 7 year old son fell in love with Christina from the kids club and the fantastic cleaners even wrote a little message to my daughter wishing her a Feliz Navidad! As well as cleaning the room to a very high standard they took the time to place folded towels in the shape of animals on my children's beds! The facilities, food and attention to detail is OUTSTANDING! We can't wait to return!

When the travel agent told me that this hotel was known for high standards, modern environmentally friendly facilities, family friendliness, and a good all inclusive package I was world weary enough to take it all with a significant pocketful of salt. How wonderful to be proven a grinch! For example, far from the "drinks available 08.00 - 23.00" meaning tea and coffee in the hotel lobby bar and vin de table at dinner, almost all drinks were free, and freely available, between those long hours. Including cocktails, spirits, wines, juices and anything else you wanted apart from some of the most expensive, imported upmarket brands.

The hotel itself is cleverly designed, using the slopes between a narrow valley for the rooms, which are spacious, clean and appointed to high standards. Happily the recent build (3 years ago) included wi-fi throughout the hotel which is thrown in for free too - a boon when 5 of us wanted to use electronic devices almost all the time. This is SO much better than the miserly usual standard of a wi-fi hotspot in the hotel lobby only: hopeless if you wake in the night and want to quietly amuse yourself with a game on the Nexus 7, or to read the news while sunbathing.

The base of the valley has been partitioned into a series of pools which sparkle invitingly. There are pools for children, for families, for adults only, for those wanting jacuzzi type jets, for those wanting sea water, for those wanting fresh water, and for those wanting to kayak.
The staff are plentiful and helpful, and nothing we requested was a problem, from the location of the library, to the New Year's eve party (and what a party that was!) to advice on where in the hotel to find the best sun. There are notices asking guests not to reserve sunbeds and indeed there was no need. The hotel was full, we were told, but there was always a feeling of space and never a shortage of desirable spots to relax and enjoy the winter sunshine.

And the restaurant! Think of San Blas like a cruise ship - fresh buffets are on offer almost continuously from 7.30 through to the wee hours so that you could eat almost constantly if you so wished. And with dishes of such diversity and with such good flavours and attractive presentation that we all found variety and toothsomeness at every meal. Quite a feat for a party of 6 each with very individual tastes. I would encourage you to take the time to look at the fresh fish before you pounce on the freshly cooked - excellent - steaks, though choosing between all the splendour that is on offer is genuinely difficult

I loved the spa - a steal at 10 Euros for an hour to play with the jaccuzzis, showers, and sauna.

We had a great week and felt it would be difficult to find fault. We saw babies, toddlers, children, young people, adults, middle aged parents (like us), older people, and all having the time of their lives in a well run and welcoming resort hotel. The whole place is disabled friendly and we easily found step free access to all part of the resort such that my m-i-l (who has dodgy knees) confidently wandered around between her room, the beach bar, the buffet, the beach and the spa, even finding her way to the on-site manicurist one day. We hardly left the hotel (usually we only manage alternate days where we stay) but did enjoy a tour of the neighbouring nature reserve where we got a feel for the ecology, flora and fauna of the island in an entertaining and enjoyable couple of hours

Downsides? The hotel is 10 mins from Tenerife south airport so you see and hear planes landing, though it didn't spoil our holiday. Unlike being under the Heathrow flight path, we never had to stop our conversation because of the noise of the planes, and there are a limited number each day anyway, all smaller planes so causing less disturbance

In summary, this is a gem and we are already considering returning for New year 2014

Room Tip: Ask for level 4 or above for the best rooms. We pushed the boat out and took a suite, so we had a si...

We stayed here in October 2012 and overall we were thoroughly impressed. As others have said, there is an awful lot to like about this hotel.

The food is excellent, and offers the best buffet-style food of any hotel we've stayed at. Choice is vast, quality is excellent and freshness is impressive. The fish selection was always very fresh (not always the case in the Canaries), while meat and veg selections were also good. Some people have commented on the "recycling" of food (i.e. yesterday's left-over roast veal is today's veal stew for example), but I actually think of this as a good sign of a restaurant. Quite simply, it means that there are real chefs in the kitchen, putting real thought into each day's meals. An awful lot of hotels (and restaurants) simply buy-in outside catered food and reheat it each day. I should also mention the quality of the a la carte restaurant: this was absolutely fantastic, with surprising and imaginative food pairings. The only thing letting it down was the service. From what we could see, the waiting staff rotated from the buffet restaurant, and lacked the training in service necessary for a fine-dining restaurant. If the management got this right, they would have a very special restaurant on their hands.

The location of the hotel is excellent, being only 10 minutes from the airport. However, despite what others have said, you will notice that you are underneath a flight path! The noise of the planes is intrusive, but it shouldn't ruin your holiday. In an ideal world, the flight path would be somewhere else, but hey ho. There isn't much in the surrounding areas to be fair. A small mini-market type shop in one direction and a pharmacy in the other. Again, in an ideal world there would be more shopping facilities available, but with the all-inclusive package you really don't need it.

Facilities in the hotel are first class, with plenty of pools to choose from and lots of other activites on offer. Every place is clean and tidy. A few more signs to the various areas wouldn't go amiss, particularly to the restaurant area on the first day!

Staff were a bit hit and miss for us. We found restaurant staff to be excellent on the whole: friendly, efficient and polite. Pool-side bar staff were quite poor to be honest: slow, unhelpful and surly. Check-in and check-out staff we found to be unsatisfactory. We arrived at the hotel at 1am (on schedule, that's the time of Ryanair's flights from where we live!). The receptionist was on the phone the entire time he was checking us in. As such, we didn't receive a warm welcome, and we weren't given any information on the hotel etc. A map was shoved in front of us and a clerk summoned to show us to our rooms. Something was muttered about a cold dinner being available for us in the restaurant, but it took us nearly 30 minutes to find the restaurant! Apart from the map not being great, once you leave your room there are very few signs for the restaurant. And given that it was pitch black, with not much outside lighting, the experience wasn't great. Check-out was also a strange experience. The receptionist tried to charge us for drinks that we hadn't had (presumably charged to our room by mistake). When we questioned it, he hurriedly said that as there wasn't any signed receipts in our file, that he would waive the charges. Well, the charges didn't belong to us in the first place, so it's not like he was doing us a favour! Whether it was a genuine mistake or sharp practice, I'm not sure. But, the same receptionist failed to ask us how our stay had been, where we were going to next, would we visit again etc. etc. etc. It was basically a case of "You're checked out now. Bye." A simple training programme dedicated to the correct way to check guests in and out would go a long way to solving these problems.

We had emailed the hotel on two seperate occasions prior to our stay, mentioning that we were celebrating my wife's 30th birthday during our stay and asking for a room with a view. Both requests were ignored and we were checked into a ground floor room. The room itself was fine, but I would strongly recommend a room on a higher floor as these are quieter and offer more privacy. The rooms overlooking the lake seemed exceptionally quite and private. But, in any case, the rooms were large and well equipped. Beds weren't that comfortable, and pillows were poor, but that's not entirely unexpected.

Oddly, on our visit, we found general information about the hotel and its facilities hard to come by. For example, we were interested in the nature reserve visit, but there were never any leaflets in english available outside the restaurant (the leaflets were in german from what I could tell). Anything you wanted to know entailed a trek to reception, which seemed rather inefficient.

With a few tweaks, this hotel could be absolutely first class. As it is, we would happily return there in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Anything other than ground floor! Whether you want a sea view, the quietness of the lake or proximit...

Went to Sandos with my wife - booked through lastminute.com. It was amazingly good value for a 5 star hotel. We booked a sea-view room and we got a room on the southern end of the hotel overlooking the beach which was superb. We went in 2nd week of Dec. and the hotel wasn't full so staff was great/friendly. The room was very impressive (2 double beds stuck together) with a very stylish see through bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and a seperate powerful shower room. The hotel was amongst the quiestest that we stayed and the food (all inclusive buffet) was very good with lots of choices and fresh fish daily. The drinks were free (bottle water, cocktails at the Reception Bar, proper coffee etc.). We also had a included meal in the a la carte restaurant and that was good (not your 5 star niche foodie place but very pleasant and good fresh food). Since it is close to the airport, the transfer was very quick (10 min.) and although you can spot planes, we hardly noticed it + Tenerife South airport don't have a lot of night flights. The shops are within walkable distance and the village is about 10 min. away. We rent the bikes and rode to El Medino and visit the nature reserves along the coast + play tennis. We even went mountain biking with Bike Point which was very nice indeed. Biking in the lava fields in the Pine Forest at 2000m (with a full sus. bike) was a very pleasant surprise and great experience and it wasn't technical. We had a great relaxing week there.

Room Tip: Either by the lake for non-sea view room or go for a sea view room or a suite.

Good value for money at this time of year and would really recommend the all in clusive deal they offer .
Entertainment was ok , although central las Americas is on a €20 taxi ride away if you want more ,
