“Nice little 3 star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Lovely little hotel, but at the top of a huge hill so not suitable for those not fit / elder adults.
Rooms were nice, view from room 201 was wonderful over the sea. Some of the staff were fab, BBQ night a must (food was fab) but to be fair there was always something you could eat. Please don't let reception give you the wrong idea, we walked in and I nearly cried. But the hotel itself is a pleasure. Rooms need air con though

My fiancée and I returned from Altamadores last Thursday having spent 2 weeks there. Having been in late January we had a good idea of what to expect and overall were not disappointed. On reception we were efficiently directed to our room (albeit not the one I had specifically requested 6 months previous when booking).

The room was found to be very clean. Going forward the hotel needs to strongly consider installation of air conditioning as we found the room to be stifling and uncomfortable in evenings despite having both ceiling fans plus two desk top fans running constantly. However, and apart from this and the sofa which was as comfortable as a church pew, the room was fine.

The maids do a smashing job, and each day with the exception of Sundays did we return to the room to find it had been well cleaned, beds made, etc and so on.

The pool area was great and despite not being the biggest pool, it did the job. Also kiddies pool which again was fine. Having read many reviews describing issues with towels being left out overnight upon sun loungers, we anticipated there was an issue but found none of the sort and people were basically laying there towels down before going to breakfast.

The self serve bar is a stoke of genius and not once did we see folk going OTT and spoiling for others, yet hardly ever any queues for drinks. Yes, the bar does close at 11pm sharp, but it does say this in catalogues and websites, and the staff had no objections in allowing guests to take 2-3 drinks each just before closing time.

The food at Altamadores is adequate without being outstanding. BBQ & Chinese nights were good. Breakfasts and lunch are fine too and choice is good. Perhaps a 21st century toaster would be an improvement. Our overall opinion hasn't changed in that if people want a la carte standard cuisine then get your hands deeper in your pockets or purses and go 5 star, because Altamadores isn't 5 star and the food is fine for a 3 star rating. Staff always friendly and helpful (our personal favourites being Caesar & Alona).

The entertainment is overall not bad, again given this s a 3 star hotel. Jamie does a top job during the afternoons, and the shows at night are hit and miss so don't expect West End standard!! However there are plenty of things to do at night elsewhere, Europa centre, puerto RICO. Music hall tavern night is a must!! Our cheeks were aching, great night!!

The 2 weeks we had were really enjoyable and the fellow guests were a really good mix (Doncaster, Northampton, South Wales & Scotland) and we met some nice folks (Kelly, Tom & Eva especially).

In conclusion a good value for money hotel and an enjoyable holiday but unless the air conditioning issue is addressed we will not be returning unless for winter break when temperatures at night are bearable without air con. However, everything else is done well and the staff should be proud of themselves!!! Hasta la vista ;)

We went from the 6th September for a week and after reading reviews here & doing our research can't say that we were surprised in many ways. Check-in was clear, quick & precise, the room was found & we immediately set the fans going as it was hot but we knew it would be. It was definitely in need of Air-Con but again unless you don't do your homework you wouldn't be surprised by this fact. We were in the 400s and it was good with lovely sunbeds for outside of your room if you wanted & way more facilities than many AI places will give you.

Entertainment was what you would expect really, a couple of really good shows & some things to give you a laugh like Karaoke which probably made up for the people who wanted to see X-Factor at home. Jamie ran a good ship with Pool, Football, Water Polo, Bingo & other evening entertainments and a pretty decent selection of music around the pool in the day & evening. Reading a recent review about anarchy, this was anything but in this week with everybody getting on well, generally following the rules (odd people had glass around the pool, didn't do anything wrong) & a good mix of british/norwegians mostly with the odd spanish family, it created a relaxing atmosphere, hardly anything like what I read in the preceding week but we chose to come out of school holidays anyway & it wasn't too busy. Getting a sunbed was simple with them free throughout the day if you hadn't reserved one earlier. Maintainance was ongoing & absolutely unintrusive with some painting/pool work being done outside the main hours.

Location was moaned about by a few but if you read a brochure or did any sort of research, it was obvious that it was atop of a steep hill, which was easily enough walked down & a taxiride back up perfectly comfortable. If you're immobile it's not for you unless you're content to sit around the complex all of the time but it's ok for everything else.

The food was a good selection and for 3* you generally found something to eat, loads of cereals, some pastries, cooked selections and the like at breakfast, always a fish type dish, some rice, burgers & frankfurters at lunch time along with salad, some dessert & the theme nights in the evening, the chinese wasn't too bad, pan-asian also, canarian probably most disappointing as we expected things like the wrinkly potatoes with mojo verde & it was more a 'paella type' dish + fish in sauce. On other nights, the 'basque style chicken stew' was lovely however & the mushroom rice fantastically sticky & lovely. You'd hear people moaning but you're never going to get michelin cuisine at beefeater prices.

What made the holiday for us however was the people who were there themselves with a good banter going on between people during activities, people all getting to know others & being sociable and it made things very much more enjoyable being able to natter to people or having your peace if you so wanted it. Enjoyed meeting everyone & hope they all found the place to be as enjoyable as we did. Batteries are now recharged.

I take my hat off to Altamadores, they really do a very good job. Every holiday at this kind of price is going to have some compromises. What Altamadores seem to have done is concentrate on getting all the basics to a good enough standard, and then make a few things great on top of that. There were no annoying little niggles on this holiday: it was clean and comfortable, had proper beds, great showers, fans were fine for us, no wee biting insects,no scuttling insects, always found a table, always found sun loungers (and the hotel was full for a couple of nights of our stay). The food was always edible and fresh, sometimes very tasty, sometimes a bit bland. Friendly staff, no stinginess with the alcohol - the self service was great with an indoor and outdoor bar so no queues and room for creativity - try banana liqueur in your slushie ;-). Entertainment won't set your world on fire but was good enough. It kind of reminds me of a premier inn in the UK - nothing amazing but there's nothing wrong that's going to stop you having a great holiday. Amadores beach is lovely, the prettiest beach I've been to in the canaries, clean beach and sea, friendly locals in the shops and restaurants, and the taxi back was only 2.50 euros, peanuts. If you're after banging nights out then maybe not the place for you, but if you want a good value holiday without any hassles then give it a try.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms don't overlook the pool area so are a little more private

Been back a week now and really missing the sun.

My wife, 17-yr-old son and I were there between 23 August and 6 September. On arrival, the reception staff were the most efficient I've ever come across - all done in under 3 minutes. Room was a short walk after a ride in the nearby lift. The rooms were well equipped except for the kettle, which we brought with us. As reported elsewhere, no air conditioning, but the fans worked quite well.

Cleaners came in on the days they were scheduled to, so no problems there. never had any problems with insects, but we did have a lizard visit one day - it was probably more scared thn my wife and it scurried away quite quickly.

Food was better than expected - always something to eat. Chinese and BBQ nights were the best (Sat and Wed, both weeks). Downside was the entertainment being in the same space as the restaurant. Made for some noisy meals.

We used the GAMA supermarket downstairs for beer (25c per can) and coke as well as ice cubes - which you have to ask for as they don't have them on display.

I had my laptop with me and used the hotels wifi, which at Eur28 was cheaper than trying to do everything on the two internet PCs in reception. Bandwidth was good - even managed to download a couple of movies to watch.

The location of this hotel isn't brilliant. About 20 minutes walk to the beach, but a much longer climb back. Taxis are cheap and plentiful, but I like a walk and did the beach once and the Europa centre twice. The Spar near the beach is quite expensive, and the Hiperdino at the Europa is cheaper for Coke, but not spirits or beer.

The hotel was quite unremarkable for me. My wife and I tend to stay on our balcony, so we missed quite a bit of what was going on.

Perosnally I wouldn't go bak to this resort as it was too far away from the things that I want to do on holiday, but it probably suits others, especially if you just want to chill out and soak up the sun.

Room Tip: There are two sides to this hotel: one by the pool and the other, closer to the sea, but quieter. If...

I went to this hotel for one week with my partner. It is great value for money, we went all inclusive. One of my main worries when going all inclusive is the food but Altamodores offers good food in the style of a buffet. They tend to have themed nights which were great. Do not miss the 'Canarian nigh't or the 'BBQ night'! The one theme though I recommend you do miss is the 'Pan-asian nigh't, this was the only disappointing night for food. Also included in the all inclusive package was free drinks! The bar was open from 11am- 11pm and instead of bar service you just help yourself to spirits, soda, larger and everything else.
The rooms were very well equipped with a full fitted kitchen so if you wanted to cook for yourselves you are welcome to. The rooms were very cosy and were well kept by the friendly cleaning staff. We had an incident one night when my partner was ill in bed and she cleaned everything up the next morning with a smile on her face!
The pool area at the hotel was fairly small but we were never cramped or fighting for sunbeds. If you do not want to spend the day by the pool though then the taxi's are very cheap to go to the beach, harbour or main shopping centers (where all the bars etc. are). It is possible to walk it which we did a couple of times but this is not recommended if you are unfit or are with small children! Overall we had a fab holiday and will definitely consider returning!

Been back just over a week from staying at the Altamadores for 14 very hot nights. Lovely friendly, great value all inclusive Hotel. Reception staff were very friendly at check in. We were given a map to find our room 211, second floor balcony room overlooking the lovely beach, road/mountain. I did request a high room however the room was on the second floor. 3rd floor rooms are far nicer and some have a view of both the pool and beach and are closer to the restaurant/bar and entertainment, which all happen in the same place! Our room was very clean, well maintained we had been left a welcome bottle of free water and washing up liquid which I thought was a nice touch. The kitchen was fully functional. Overall the room was very nice. The shower was the best shower I have ever had in a room abroad, the water actually stayed in the shower not all over the floor!! Only problem was that the room was so hot!!! The fans helped a little, however air conditioning is a must in 40 degree heat, we never stopped sweating when in the room, hard to sleep, even with the patio doors open. The restaurant served very nice food always something for everybody even my fussy son! We loved barbecue night meat feast..yum yum!! The sweets were a little boring lots of jelly, ice cream, fruit and soft cakes. Good for the kids but i could have killed for a nice wholesome cake!! Loved the self service drinks great idea and nobody abused this. However i believe the bar was shut too early at 11pm and therefore the entertainment too. No big ques at the restaurant but very hard to find a table outside sometimes as it was so hot and most people stayed on their table for the entertainment. Again the restaurant would benefit from having air conditioning if such high temperatures persist. The entertainment was ok we were programmed into Bingo twice a day and the enoying bingo song still rings in my ears!! Funny though, miss it in a weird way! Jamie, a very nice man, tries his best to entertain the troops with waterpolo, killer pool etc At night the entertainment was more for children,. However the hotel would benefit from a kids club especially during school holidays. Then Jamie could concentrate on the adults. The pool area was lovely but make sure you get up at 7am to reserve beds as they are all gone by 9am. The pool was very nice however got a little busy with lilos, kids as it was very hot!! The location of the hotel is very scenic with lovely views, however very high up and bars and night life higher up or lower down for the beach. Taxis are a must so take extra for this. I was a little sad that after your meal you could not go for a stroll without needing oxygen!! Not for people with walking difficulties. All in all we loved our holiday at the Altamadores we met some lovely people and made good friends we would go back. Have a lovely holiday we did x

Room Tip: 3rd floor rooms with balcony are very nice with easier access to all facilities and some have views...
