“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

Enjoyed our fortnight here - good food, good staff and good facilities. All inclusive is the best option as a small bottle of water is over €2 and snacks and cocktails are approximately
€5-6. Large bottles of water can be bought in town, but it's a 10 minute walk back from Puerto Rico and it's uphill, so it soon becomes a chore.
The evening entertainment was varied, some very good and some just average, but it finishes too early
( around 10pm ) which then leaves the audience with nothing to do.
NB Beware plausible people on the way to town who offer a free visit to look round ANFI, which is a complex just round the coast. The suggestion is that this is a hotel like any other, but it's actually similar to a time share. It's "celebrating" it's 25th year and having seen it, it's obvious why current owners want to sell, and why the management want new clients.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

We stayed at Gloria Palace Amadores for 6 nights beginning January. All rooms are spread out over 4 blocks. The hotel is huge and the public spaces (restaurant, salon, lobby,…) are mostly very noisy. All rooms are seaside facing (south southwest) but not all rooms have an (unobstructed) seaview. Views are pretty much guaranteed in rooms in Blocks 3 and 4. Blocks 1 and 2 however, have rooms with mixed sea-view. In block 2 in particular the ground floor rooms (which are slightly larger) lie around two meters lower than the recreation area with the swimming pool right in front which means that you look out against a wall. Also, these rooms do not have back access and are to be entered from the front (side of the terrace). This means that people constantly walk past the front of your room and without curtains drawns can see everything inside. The kiddie recreation club is also located at the end of the corridor leading to these rooms. We did not stay in these rooms but it looked like the security concerns (you can’t leave the windows open when you are not in the room) and the privacy issues (everybody can look inside) don’t seem to be very appealing. Blocks 1 and 2 both have the swimming pool and sun deck in front of them. The pool side of Block 2 is the socalled ‘activity’ area. It means entertainment is organized throughout the day. If you like it quiet this may not necessarily be good news. Block 1 also faces a swimming pool and sun deck but this is the socalled ‘quiet side’ as the receptionist put it. We got a room on the 2nd floor (European floor counting) in Block 2. Apart from the rooms down on the ground floor keep in mind that some of the lower floors (in Block 2 and 1) also have rooms whose views are obstructed by structures in the recreation area (ex. By the pool bar, the building with the elevator shafts etc.). Every night the salon bar hosts different entertainment. The doors of the salon bar are kept open during the night. Music from the entertainment was clearly audible until between 1 and 2 pm. If you like a quieter night rest you may want to ask reception for a room in Blocks 1, 3 or 4 instead. Rooms are generally all similar sizes but the terrace size does vary ranging from really big on the lower floors to small on the top floors. The rooms are clean and spacious and are nicely decorated in a functional but agreeable style. The beds were not outstanding but not bad either. The bathroom is also spacious enough and has a separate toilet area with door. We found the toiletries however rather stingy. Per day we got one sachet of shower gel and one sachet of shampoo per person. Sachets with soap make for a very tacky feel and I associate them more with cheap French 2 star hotels rather than 4 star Spanish hotels. Apart from the cheap impression it is also ecologically wasteful with huge numbers of such empty sachets being thrown away each day. We got our own bath soap and shampoo from a nearby supermarket. The bath linen was of decent quality. The minibar was empty. Minus point for the room was the old cathode ray television set. I wonder where the hotel found these relics still? I believe it’s safe to say that flat-screens are ‘de-rigueur’ in this day and age in four-star hotels. This is obviously a point for improvement. After two o’clock block 2 was surprisingly quiet.
Meals (breakfast, dinner and lunch) are all buffet style and all in the same hall. The hall has a terrace with fantastic views over the ocean but also from indoors you can enjoy the sight of the huge water expanse from behind the big panoramic windows. Breakfast buffet is very, very extensive. Pancakes, eggs, pastries, cereals, salads, fresh fruits, cold cuts, noodles, yoghurt, pudding, - virtually anything you might want is available. Juices are offered too and espresso coffee can also be taken. The dinner spread is even more impressive. A section offers cold appetizers, one other warm appetizers. Another sections offers desserts and yet another specific meals that change every day and that are cooked ‘à la minute’. Every day the buffet has another theme island as well. We went through British, Canarian, Italian, Scandinavian, Mexican and Cuban. Suffice it to say that the food is absolutely more than ok in this hotel. It was tasty, fresh and well-cooked. Empty trays were constantly replenished and the staff were very attentive to the needs of the guests. One very big minus point on the catering side of our stay: the know-how of the bar personnel. On two occasions I requested a Dry Martini and I got… a glass with vermouth and ice-cubes. The second time I requested a Dry Martini I got … a Martini with ice-cubes. The girl at the bar obviously didn’t have the slightest clue about cocktails. I should not forget to mention that free underground parking is available and that wifi works well (also in the room) and is free as well. As for accessibility, the hotel is located by a cliff and the access is on top. It makes for a very strenuous walk uphill. Alternatively you can take the lift in the hotel that takes you from the ocean walk level straight up to the public areas of the hotel. From the hotel Puerto Rico and its shops and restaurants is around a 30 minute walk. Would I stay here again ? Absolutely ! Aside from some minuses the hotel clearly offers value for money. The great views over the ocean and – with some luck – the great weather come as a bonus. For those who prefer small-scale boutique hotels this is probably not the property to book.

Room Tip: a room in blocks 3 or 4 are guaranteed to have unobstructed seaview. Rooms in block 2 can be noisy...

We stayed at the Hotel over the New Year, it was a lovely experience, staff very welcoming although a little slow on check we were a party of 3 couples and it took approx 40 mins!!
The rooms are lovely, very large with lovely sea views, sunsets were beautifull (we were in block 4) couldn't comment on the other blocks. The restaurant is very good lots of choice each day. The all inclousive drinks were very good branded labels. Our only gripe was the Gala Dinner/Entertainment for New Years Eve, because we had arrived on the 30th we were unable to book for the second sitting at 8.30 we had to opt for the first sitting at 6.00, rather early. Then if we wanted to sit and watch the eveing entertainment/show we were told we could only reserve a table if we paid Euro185.00 for a bottle of Moet, absolutely ridiculous. We went of the complex and up to the Europa Centre where we had a fabulous evening I would thoroughly recommend it. (whatever evening). Overall the holiday was great and I would recommend it to friends we are going back in July.

Room Tip: Blocks 4 and 3 are in my opinion the best Blocks 1 and 2 could have their sea view interupted by the...

In the early 2002 I was watching in wonder how this building was taking shape: no straight lines, sort of a continuation of the rocks in the background in a "gaudesque" style, an extension of the rock on which it was built. When I saw the end product I promised myself at least a visit and this year we did it!
Superb building, exceedingly comfortable and memorable hotel, perfectly managed by lovely and professional staff and a magic place to be at Christmas. The restaurant and the food was out of this world, first class presentation and service.
I will go again to experience the wonderful sunsets and the general sense of being very happy there.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view in this hotel.

Nice rooms, really glorious view already of the reception on the sea.Rooms nice, but cleaning not regular. two beds instead of 1 doublebed ordered. cleaning service is not respecting "don t disturb".Service not good at all: impression that they really don t want and not gonna to help you with anything, your problem and they don t care at all.All inclusive is not all inclusive, only some restaurants and bars and only in some time periods.Hotel doesn t have a beach but beach Amadores very nice and clean.Beach in Puerto Rico dirty: it s a little harbor.Food good but thyme everywhere.Aquapark really poor and in bad conditions. You pay everywhere too much for almost no services. Possibility to swim wth seals without paying entry to aquapark.Great trip by buggys from Maspalomas to mountains.Attention to sun!Eeven if it s no sunny day and windy you can be really burned by sun..
Puerto Rico: great disco at Harley:)

Room Tip: choose a room under a pool with seaview. Those who had under their balcony the pools were disturbed a...

My husband and I took our 11 year old grandaughter to gloria palace during autumn half term. We had normally taken her to Tenerife but thought we would like a change. We were not dissapointed. Rooms were spacious, views great and very nice sitting on balcony with a good view of pool area and sea .Good selection of food at all meal times. Entertainment was average but my grandaughter was most impressed with it. We were there for Halloween and all staff were dressed up . The Halloween decor was fantastic. When we were on plane on way home we realised we had left my granddaughters jellycat teddy which she has taken to bed every night since 6 months old, we were all upset over this and during the following week we made several phone calls to see if they would return teddy. We were told it had been found on cleaning the room. I was requested to give credit card details and they would post teddy and charge postage to the card. We did this, and had e. mail off them November 15th to say teddy had been posted. Seven weeks later and teddy has not arrived, we still have upset grandaughter. I feel very let down by this ,and do not understand why we were told teddy had been posted .

Room Tip: We were pleased with room on 6th floor sun shone on balcony from 11am.

We spent a week in december 2013 at Gloria Palace and it was amazing.

Check-in/out:
Quick, efficient. We had to wait 3 hours after checking out for our transfer to the airport, so they provided a place to leave our luggage.

Location:
Great, on top of the Puerto Rico promenade, 10 minutes walk to Puerto Rico or Amadores beaches.

The staff:
Really friendly. They were helpful with any question we had, car rentals, which busses to take, best roads to approach.. anything we needed.

Rooms:
Spacious and clean, with a good sized balcony. There is no smoking in the room but if you ask really nice they will provide with an ashtray to smoke on the balcony. Ask for a room in block 3 or 4 on the top floors for the beautiful sea view. There is free WIFI, safe (extra charge).

Food:
Great, they have a wide variety of dishes, drinks, sweets and fruits, a huge dining room and a fantastic restaurant terrace. Every night they have a "themed" buffet with dishes from around the world.

Pools:
There are two pools, very clean and tidy with a magnificent ocean view. Plenty of sunbeds available. Towels available for free.

Tips:
Smoking is allowed on the room balcony and restaurant terrace.
Go half-board, there are plenty of nice restaurants around to try the local cuisine.

Conclusion:
Fantastic holiday in a great location. We would definitely return to this hotel in the future. Thank you Gloria Palace Amadores!

Room Tip: Rooms in block 3 or 4 on the top floors offer an amazing sea view.
