“Riu Vistamar- or Riu Vomit mare”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Nice location, nice views. Severe problem with Vomiting and diarrhoea throughout guests staying in hotel. All inclusive so all guests were eating/drinking in the 2 restaurants/Bars. Glasses in pool bar rarely clean. Management did not acknowledge that there was a problem, and made little effort to address this major problem, resulting in more and more people being sick. Basic hygiene principals needed to be addressed, in addition to identifying the cause of the problem, and finding solutions. 4 of 8 of our party had severe cramps, nausea, vomiting & Diarrhoea lasting @ 24 hrs. Javier (manager) was well aware of the problem.
If as an all inclusive hotel you cannot provide a safe location for your guest to eat, drink and socialise - you have failed.

This was a return visit for our family having visited 18 months ago. With a new addition to the family we decided to return as we had such a good time previously. We were very disappointed after paying exceptional money for a week stay at Easter. The hotel had not been kept in good condition, threadbare towels, broken dining seats and what looked like the same bedclothes that were in use at the last visit. We did not get the room we paid for, and were in two separate rooms, not great for our anniversary holiday! One room had no running water at first. The food was not as good either and was at times luke warm. Then add to that the extreme V&D that my daughter suffered which left her so weak she could not walk. The hotel nor the Rep did nothing to acknowledge a virus was going around, and it was only speaking to other guests that it became obvious ours wasn't an isolated case. Soap dispensers in toilets were not working or empty which didn't help. This was not up to the usual Riu standard and definitely a not a 4 star standard. The reception manager did not want to speak to us when we requested this, as we wanted convey our concerns to allow improvements to be made.

Room Tip: If you do go ask for floor 4 or 5

Had a great holiday in a great hotel with excellent staff and facilities.I think most people who have complained about silly things regarding this hotel have simply nothing better to do.Already booked to return December 2014 and can't wait.In the group of 9 other people I went with none of us had a single thing to complain about.

We travelled to the Vistamar on the 14th April . Room was on level 3 overlooking the non beach side. No time of day when our balcony was in the sun due to having a level of rooms directly above us.
Room was fine. Nice shower and clean
Felt that there wasn't enough public space inside where you could just sit and relax. We paid €20 for 7 days wifi access, only available in reception. Expected better in this day of technology ability.
Food was fine, lots of salad and fruit on offer but the set meal time was a pain.
My husband had D&V for 24 hours after being at the hotel for 4 days, I suspect it was viral rather than food poisoning . My 15 yr old son had vomiting for 24 hours on the day after we arrived back in the UK, same virus I believe.
Pools are small for the number of guests, the solarium area provides much needed peace and relaxation but a self service soft drinks dispenser in that area would be good . Quite a trek up to the pool bar for a drink
Lifts inadequate for size of hotel, felt as if we spend lots of time climbing stairs to get anywhere
We got a cheap late deal so didn't feel that what we got was bad value, would not have been happy if we paid full brochure price.
Staff friendly and hard working
Remote location - so feel that most people stay at the hotel in the evening, a quiet area where you could chat would be good,

This excellent 4 start hotel is perched high upon the cliffs overlooking the crescent shaped bay of Amadores close to the larger conurbation of Play de Puerto Rico. Although rather inaccessible by foot the hotel provides an excellent free of charge shuttle-bus service to the lovely beach of Amadores. All meals are via a comprehensive buffet and the all-inclusive facilities means that drinks are available on-tap throughout the day even premium brands such as Amstel & Beefeater are included without additional charge. The hotel boasts two swimming pools, tennis courts etc with plenty of supervised activities to entertain the kids. The clientelle are predominantly German and British with a few from Scandinavia.

Room Tip: All rooms have balconies that face the sea & because the hotel is perched high upon the cliffs e...

Plenty of sunbeds with several sunbathing areas. Some areas with fab views. We ate in the restaurant in the evenings (either 630pm or 830pm sittings which you stick to all week and at same table) but at the pool bar for breakfast and lunch. Restaurant food was delicious. Lots of variety. You could have several courses if you want. Food available nearly all day. Lots of drinks to choose from. The cocktails and sangria were great. Wine, beer and soft drinks on tap to help yourself was fab. I only caught some of the evening entertainment in passing, it looked ok. Took advantage of the free half hour wifi in reception (for each device) to keep in touch with friends at home. It was busy after evening meals but soon cleared. First bedroom had noisy pipes so was moved on 2nd day and got fruit and sherry as an apology. There are nicer views from the rooms overlooking the beach with sunny balconies. Email in advance to ask for beach view and 4th or 5th floor seem to be preferable but I was on 2nd and lifts were no problem. The courtesy room on the last day was helpful to shower etc ahead of evening flights. A queuing system first come first served. Plenty of activities and crazy games to keep you busy. Bingo seemed a hit with most holiday makers. The gym was good and in the center of things by the pool rather than tucked away which I thought was good. As the Easter holidays kicked in I noticed more British arriving, at the start of the week it was mainly Germans and French. Kids club looked fun and popular. I can't comment on what's outside the hotel, we stayed on site the whole week and got the most out of all inclusive. The beach looked excellent though and free bus service is helpful. I would definitely recommend. I have stayed at several RIU hotels. I thought the Vistamar was great value for what I paid and I did A LOT of research before booking. I've stayed at nicer places but paid more for those. I've stayed at far worse too. If you want a decent 4 star hotel without paying thru the nose and one which gets lots of good reviews then go here.

Check in was quick and easy we were given a time for dinner 18.30 asked for it to be changed and it was done no bother you also get a table number for your whole stay which think is a good idea saves you wandering around trying to find one ok you probably don't know the people your sat near but it didn't bother us sat next to a pleasant couple from Norway. Rooms are adequate food is fine all the staff are hardworking and polite drinks are fine it is on top of the hill but the Europa centre is only 5mins walk away up a slight hill . All in all for a week away it was worth the money.
