just back from riu vista mar , after two weeks holiday , had a fantastic holiday, rooms spotlessly clean and maid service was excellent , all inclusive meals were brilliant with plenty of choices for everybody , reception staff brilliant and very helpful , bar staff and drinks very good ,
it was our anniversary while we was there , and we received a presentation of fruit , sweets and a bottle of wine ,in our room ," which made us feel very special"our room was well situated overlooking amadores bay , stunning views from the balcony, and sunshine until 8-00 pm " absolutely brilliant " overall its the best we have been to in puerto rico , we have been before and we are certainly looking forward to going again in february . entertainment could do with having more artists and more variety , .
Thank you to you all at the riu vista mar you helped to make the perfect holiday for us , " see you soon " .

Stayed here for five days its a lovely hotel with great staff our room was nice if a little small but the views from it were great . Like another reviewer my only complaint is not about the hotel but some of its guests rude Germans yet again acting like they are the only people who matter pushing in speaking rudely to staff and when drunk one party became very raucous including one baring his backside not acceptable especially where children are .

Just come back from a super week at this hotel. The reception staff are some of the best I have ever come across, can't do enough for you. The room was immaculately clean, and the views of the sea from the balcony are truly breathtaking. The 'all inclusive' drinks, whilst local brands, are perfectly drinkable, and very little queuing at the bars (September). The absence of baseball caps and football shirts was gratifying, too, so not too many chavs! The food was plentiful, fresh and very edible, although not stunning. The swimming pools are beautiful, although as per usual, the boring practice of reserving sunbeds with towels goes on unpoliced.

Little niggles were the evening meal times, where you have to book for either the first (6 30) or second (8 30) sittings, which didn't always accord with our plans day by day. The so-called speciallity restaurants were not very good, frankly, and given the week again I would only perhaps have bothered with the Asian one.

If you book with Thomson, watch out for the airport transfers, where inward bound there is likely to be an interminable wait on the tarmac whilst other customers get on the guagua (coach!), in our case over 45 minutes (boring after a very long travel) and on the departure, a late ish arrival of the transport, coupled with the other 6 or so pickups en route to the airport, meant that we only just made it to the plane, on which seriously crap food and stupidly over priced drinks await you, and our party of 4 was split up over the plane owing to late arrival which was not our fault. The in hotel rep, Cally, was friendly and couldn't be more helpful - book any trips with her in the hotel, as they are usually cheaper than walking in to the booking office on the day.

If you walk up the drive, watch out for the timeshare pests - they're Brits and will promise you bottles, free holidays, star prizes on scratch cards (all crap), but if you fall for their bull, they will have you in a (free) taxi, but their promise of a 90 minutes tour will in fact cost you half a day of your holiday. We failed to show up for the welcome meeting where we would have been warned, so fell for these spivs. Beware!

Other than these things, the hotel itself is lovely and we had a great holiday,

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 11 nights, and friends joined us for a week, and we all had a fantastic time!
The views are amazing, rooms are kept spotlessly clean, the staff throughout the hotel are extremely friendly. The rooms themselves seemed fairly spacious, with good TV's with english channels.
Must all say that our Thomson rep was fantastic as well, always checking you were okay as you passed her.
I thought that the entertainment team were fab and worked very hard all day long, especially the shows that they put on in the evenings. Some of the entertainment probably wont be to your taste however we tried to watch it all.
The food is good, does get repetitive after a week or so, but its nice to have the opportunity to try new foods. I would recommend visiting the 'Specialty evenings' we went to both BBQ and Asian and they were both a really nice alternative.
If I were to pick up on negatives i would say that in the restaurant the Spanish guests are favored over the English guests however, this didn't bother me too much. The bed did begin to give me a bit of back ache as they are fairly hard. And finally both pools seemed very cold, even though the weather was really hot, it still seemed a shock getting into the pools, and you had to move it around a bit in order to get warm.
Plenty of sunbeds, good choice of drinks, some of them branded.
Also taxis very cheap- 3 euros max to get to beach, and about 4 euros to get into Puerto Rico.
We did go out a couple of nights into Puerto Rico- rider's bar is a good laugh.
Would definitely go back!!!

Room Tip: we were on the 4th floor and had fabulous views!

I have just returned from my holiday to this hotel with my partner. I'm always very dubious about 4 star hotels as they can differ greatly. We arrived about 11.30pm at the hotel on Monday 2nd Sept. We were provided with a cold buffet (flies were flying around the food). We met a few other people who also arrived late. We all felt like New kids at school. We were just told to go downstairs for food. When we arrived at our room we found the room outraged and the beds extremely hard, although room extremely clean. Once we opened our patio door we were amazed with the view of the sea. Amazing. We found that the food catered for everyone, but the food became tedious after a few days. We also found the waiting service a bit hit and miss at times. Not very friendly at times. Felt like an underdog and not treated the same as other nationalities. We totally enjoyed all the excursions we went on. What totally annoyed me is that we had to be out of our room by 11am when our flight was not until 11.15pm. Considering we arrived late evening on our first night and offered a fly infested buffet I felt it was poor of riu to have us out of our room by 11am, also we were not allowed to have an evening meal. Although for 50 euros we could have had our room for that day and a meal. I totally would not pay this out of principles. I paid for 7 days, not 6. The hotel entertainment was poor and boring. The pools were amazing though. I feel this hotel does warrant its rating but must remember customer service is vital.

Room Tip: Make sure you try and get a room on 5th floor, stunning views.

I have just returned from a one week holiday here with my boyfriend and we were both very happy with the hotel. I am going to try and cover every aspect of the hotel:

Arrival
Upon arrival to the hotel we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel. The staff were efficient with our check in procedure, which did not appear to take that long at all, considering there was quite a lot of us that arrived at once. We were allocated a room on the 5th floor (highest floor of the bedrooms- I had emailed after booking to ask for a room on this floor). We took a bottle of water away with us because from previous reviews, we knew that we did not have one in the room.

Room
I’m guessing that all rooms have sea views- well ours did. The overall cleanliness of the room was top-notch. The bathroom was fully equipped with a bath with a (powerful) shower head over top. There is also a fridge in the room, a TV with many English channels and very efficient air conditioning. There is also ample storage- large wardrobe, drawers and bed side cabinets. Inside the wardrobe is a safe, which we used all the time.

Location
The hotel itself is situated on top of a hill, which results in a lot of walking. However, we were aware of this at the time of booking so it was not an issue. We walked down to Amadores beach once, which took about half an hour. The rest of the time we just used taxis, which only cost a few Euros.

Food
We both regularly eat out at home and appreciate good food. We were impressed with the choice of food and the quality of it. Yes, it is not a 5* restaurant, so do not expect that, but for what it is it is great. Breakfast is served between 8am and 10:30am with an abundance of cereals, croissants, fruit, yogurts, cold meats/ cheese and also cooked options. Lunch is served about 1ish (can’t remember the exact times- sorry) and again there is plenty of choice to suit anyone. Dinner is served in two sittings (6.30pm and 8.30pm), we were allocated the 8.30pm sitting which was fine with us as we spent most of the days doing excursions. You are also allocated a table for the duration of your stay (we were lucky as we were allocated a table for 4 which was situated away in the corner). We never went out for an evening meal elsewhere as we were content with the food offered here.
People have mentioned in previous reviews that food is repetitive and that they could not find anything they fancied. Well I can say that it can appear the food is repetitive, but when you are offering such a wide choice, it is impossible not to repeat some dishes. Also, if you cannot find anything that you fancy, I have to say that there is a McDonalds just down the road in Puerto Rico.

Staff
They very helpful and could not do enough to help you. On our second night we had issues with a ‘noise’. Initially, we thought it was the fan in our room so we turned it off, but the noise continued. We then thought it was next door’s bed. This noise continued for about 2 hours (or felt like that). I then went out into the passageway and our neighbours came out: they thought it was our bed. We decided to call reception to report the noise. A member of staff was soon with and he was stumped as to what it was, as he had never heard it before. Anyway he went off to try and find the cause. He returned 5 minutes later and reported it was the fan in the room below us, so had turned it off.

Entertainment
The evening entertainments was a bit hit and miss, but it is down to individual taste. The best evening entertainment was the ‘Men verses Women’, which I was part of. I can imagine that this was probably the most entreating evening to watch for the audience, as it was full of laughs. The best thing was that the woman’s team won and we all got a bottle of champagne each.

Overall
Overall we were very impressed with the hotel and would definitely return. I would suggest that it is one to avoid if you do not like a lot of walking or wish to be nearer to the beach. If you go with all this in mind, then I am sure that you will have an enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher level room (5th floor) when you book.

We have been to the vistamar on many many occasions as a couple, as part of a large family group.and our last visit was with friends, whom we had built up for their holiday, since we loved this hotel, but how guilty we felt after that holiday. The staff were their usual, smiley, helpful, and very funny self's, the housemaids were fantastic, as usual, it was the people on holiday that spoiled it for us and our friends. There were very rude German people there, although not all of the German holiday makers. There were large family groups, with more children than adults, looking after them, from a few nationalities, where the children at a night time were running amok in the hotel, something we had never encountered before at the hotel, also something we had never encountered before, was reserving sunbeds that were not used during the day. The restaurant at night was more busy, with the food being luke warm, and on two occasions I had to ask for a main meal. as they had started to set up for the second sitting, before we had finished our starter. We may have just been lucky over the past ten years holidaying at the Riu Vistamar, and having fantastic holidays, from which we have not wanted to come home but we wont be looking to go there in a hurry again, unless we get a cancellation at a good price.
