“Nice hotel-beautiful views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2012

Good hotel and so clean rooms. Massive terrace with great views.
Short walk to the Europa Center and down to Puerto Rico center taxi only 3eur.
Minidisco..well it was ok:)
Top pool was heated so big plus for that.

Room Tip: Ask for a big terrace. There are rooms with very very small balconys.

We love to read that our customers enjoy their holidays. About the terrace, it's true there are different size terraces, we allways try to give our customers a room accord to their wishes, tho its not allways 100% possible (due to availability), but as soon as we can we will fullfill their requests as best as possible. Next summer we will have a new type of room "Premium Apartment" which will include big terrace, air conditioning, safety deposit box, and cleaning service all days.

Thanks for your time writing this, really appreciated. Hope to see you soon back !

We arrived at Riosol on 7th November 2011. Room 3240 smelled of drains there was a concrete stairway in front of the main window view and steps down to the balcony. The bedroom had no natural light and the window looked out onto what i can only describe as a rubbish tip. The bed sheets were stained. The air conditioning was behind the curtain. The balconies were not private. There was a coachroach in the room late evening. The hotel would not move us as they were booking in and had no spare rooms. We spoke to our rep the next day who moved us to Montepraiso. We did eat in the Riosol which was satisfactory.
We would not recommend this hotel. We are still awaiting to hear from Thomas Cook after making a formal complaint when we returned.

We flew out on Monday 2nd January 2012 for two weeks. Our fifth time to Gran Canaria, our third to Puerto Rico. We got transferred to the Riosol from its sister hotel, Los Veleros as they didn't have the two bedroom apartment that we had booked. Having stayed at the Riosol in 2010 we were quite happy to transfer to it rather than wait for a two bedroom apartment to become available at Los Veleros.

The manager Manuel Sastre personally showed us a couple of rooms we could transfer to and let us decide over a round of complementary drinks. He was very accomodating and offered us two days of half board for our family as a good will gesture because of the other hotel's "cock-up". We had room 5227 and despite what other people have said about this room being infested with cockroaches - it wasn't!!! It is round the side of the hotel so you don't get the sun in the morning, but you do get it from about 3pm onwards so lovely for an afternoon glass of wine on the little lawn area in front of the balcony. Manuel said we could move to a room on the front with the full sea view the next day, but we decided to stay in 5227 so we could unpack and start our holiday. We also received big bowl of fruit.

Lets face it you will get cockroaches in Spain and I can't understand people going on about them. Yes we saw them and had a few visit us but they are about. Live with it!!!! Get a glass and a bit of card and chuck 'em out.

The room was lovely and spacious and cleaned very well. Nice having two bathrooms too and showers were always fast flowing and hot! Kitchen equipment was okay, could have done with maybe a few extra utensils and a frying pan, but we made do and managed to cook some nice meals. Plenty of plug points. Outside table and chairs and two sunloungers too. There was a portable fan provided but we didn't need it

The buffet restaurant was lovely and we paid for extra meals which were a bargain. Much cheaper than eating in one of the restaurants in town with good selection of food and the wine a reasonable price too. Breakfasts also very good. Different theme to the food on offer each night, on a two week rolling basis.

My main critisism was the pools - they were cold!!! The top pool was meant to be heated and a couple of days it did feel warmish but it was generally cold. The bottom pool was freezing!! Saying that, it didn't stop the kids and they were in the pools all day every day!! Plenty of sunloungers and there is a shop for buying basics and a couple of pool tables and tennis court.

Evening entertainment is okay, bit cheesy but kids loved it. Good wi-fi area and internet connections. NIce reception area and views of the pool underwater. Staff all pleasent and friendly and spoke and understood English well.

A good hotel and the two bedroom apartments are lovely and big. Views are amazing. Short walk to the Europa Centre which quite frankly is bit chavvy. But there was a reasonable supermarket and the Extreeme Sports bar good for football games (and they''re Spurs fans too!!! Yay!) Wouldn't particulary recommend any of the restaurants, preferred the hotel in all honesty and good value for money. The mini-golf was good fun. Also, a walk to Amadores Beach is good to do and we got ferry to Puerto Morgan for the Friday market.

I would recommend this hotel and lives up to the standards of the prices they charge.

Room Tip: Two bedroom rooms are spacious but don't have big balconies.

Arrived at the Rio Sol on Wednesday 4th January, 2012. We were greeted by a smile and a friendly welcome by Oscar on reception. What a great start to our holiday.

Apartments were spacious and spotlessly clean. These are the nicest apartments we have stayed at in Puerto Rico and we have been coming here for nearly 20 year. Fresh towels suppied daily and maid service every day except Thursdays and Sundays.

We stayed in room number 4104 which had spectacular sea views overlooking Puerto Rico beach and harbour with sunshine from morning til night. Perfect. Comfortable sun loungers and a table and chairs on a fair sized balcony.

Thankyou Rio Sol, we hope to be back in your Aparthotel soon.

I stayed at the Riosol Hotel in Puerto Rico during the week of Christmas in December. This was our first time at The Gran Canaria Island. Some comments about Riosol :

Location
Sunny, Sunny , Sunny. If you are looking for a sunny place, this is it. The Gran Canaria Island weather depends on where in the Island you are staying. Las Palmas can be very cloudy, the East side on Mas Palomas and Playa del Ingles is terrible windy ( great for windsurf but not to enjoy the beach ). But Puerto Rico is on the south side , which is protected from the strong winds and clouds by the mountains. Riosol is on the slope of a hill, facing the sea directly, and the apartments have direct sunshine from sunrise until sunset , which is absolutely a pleasure .

Transportation from Airport
On arrival to Las Palmas airport we rented a car ( Autoreisen with very good service ). The ride from the Airport to the Hotel is about 50 minutes in a very safe motorway. The Hotel offered me a transfer service for 53 Euros. In order to explore the Island and move around the Hotel, is better to rent a car. There is space for parking in the street just outside of the Hotel.

Reception
The reception staff was friendly . They followed strictly the check in after 2 pm policy.
On arrival they provided information about the area.

Apartments
I stayed in a one bedroom apartment, which has a private terrace with 2 sun chairs plus a nice table with 2 chairs and a sun umbrella. This terrace is receiving the sun during all day . The apartments are clean but kind of basic. In the bedroom 2 double beds, in the living room area 2 sofa beds , one small kitchenette fully equipped, one table with 4 chairs, one small flat screen TV ( Deposit for the remote control required as well as daily payment for having the TV channels open ). Note that there is no AC or fan in the room, and if you require one you can rent it on a daily base. In the winter we did not required any Fan or AC as we were looking for some warm weather. As the apartments are on the slope of a hill, is required to walk down stairs to get to the apartments, which might be a bit tired. But there a lift with 2 stops. The rooms are cleaned 5 times per week.

Swimming Pools
The hotel has swimming pools with a great sea view.

Restaurants
We did not tried the restaurants of the Hotel. Instead we had lunch and dinner either in the Europe Center which is 5 minutes away waking, or at the Amadores Beach, which has dozens of restaurants available.

The hotel has a mini-market, which is good for water and basic stuff. But in the Europa Center 5 minutes away walking, there is a great mini-market with much better options.

Beach
The closest beach is Puerto Rico, which is the one you can see from the Hotel. It is 3 minutes car ride from the Hotel, or you can also walk down the hill. But we preferred the Amadores Beach which is just 5 minutes away by car. Amadores Beach has great white sand, and all the services ( umbrellas, chairs, toilets, restaurants, etc ). You can enjoy the sun all day long on this beach. It’s a family oriented beach.

Internet
There is no internet in the rooms, but in the reception lobby wireless is available with no extra charge.

Night Entertainment
While in the Lobby at night we saw everyday a different show with very good attendance from guests ( Karaoke, etc ).

Bugs
There are some reports in TA about cockroaches. We did not spot any, but is important to mention that they reproduce in cycles, and this happens during the hotter months of the year. During those months I guess they can be seen in many parts of the Island, not just the Riosol.

Overall a fantastic experience and I recommend this hotel if you are looking for sun, in a very clean and basic place in front of the sea with a great view !

Room Tip: If not fit to walk many steps down the stairs, request a room on the upper level.

Riosol was excellent value for money, with comfortable clean rooms and brilliant views. Yes there are lots of steps but this is good for excercise or just use the lift. The lift is a little scary if you are afraid of heights (like me). If you want to avail of half board you pay only €18 per person for breakfast & lunch - very good value with good enough options (different theme each night). For excellent food - go to 'Ciao Beach' in Amordores, food is just class and the staff there - Alex & the Santiagos are so helpful & friendly. Amordores Beach is only a €3 taxi away and just beautiful and not tacky like the main area. There are alot of Spanish staying in these apartments, but not a problem.
