“Pleasant stay at Apartamentos Tamanaco”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Just back from a week spent at Apartamentos Tamanaco. We arrived at 8pm to airport and got 91 bus which was direct service for 5.45 euro. It dropped us downtown and we got taxi up to accommodation for 2.50 euro. Although reception was closed a guard on duty gave us our key. I found the appartment spacious with an excellent balcony. Stayed in room 404. Had fridge freezer, kettle, microwave/grill/oven and 2 electric hobs. Provided utensils, plates, cups and pots. Rooms were kept very clean and staff called to them at least 5 days a week to clean them. We did find initially that it was difficult to sleep as it was 27 degrees during the day and there was no air conditioning but we knew that before booking it.
The bed in the bedroom was actually 2 double beds pushed together and were comfortable.
The pool although small had plenty of room around it to lounge about. The mini market appeared to just have re-opened and it was handy for cheese , ham, milk and fresh bread and croissants. Had a sandwich once at pool bar for 2.50 and pint on draught for 2.50.
Staff at reception were friendly and if I needed anything they were able to advise me. For the TV in the room 10 euro deposit was required for the remote and you got this back on leaving. There were no english speaking channels on the TV but recognisable music on the radio channels.
The location of the appartments as you are aware are up 100 steps from the town. We found them not to be as bad as people were making them out on previous reviews. If your mobility is inhibitedd they could be an issue.
All and all very enjoyable stay for 166 euro for the week.

Room Tip: Hire bicycle for 7 euro a day English bar above spar shop(white front) sold pints for 80 cents!

The reviews on here were really helpful in the decision to stay at Tamanaco so I wanted to have my input too! As a two star, I was reluctant to stay there but I have to say, I will be going back to stay there again, no problem.

The rooms were clean, the staff were incredibly friendly and polite and the location was excellent. We had a great view from our balcony, watching the sun set over the mountains every night was a real delight.

Be warned, reception is closed from 1pm until 4pm every day (which was annoying as we arrived at 1:30pm) but the maintenance staff were really helpful and sorted out our room key in no time. There is a phone number you can ring from the reception phone and someone will be down in 2 minutes to check you in.

The apartments themselves are situated high up, you need to climb at least 100 steps from Puerto Rico centre to reach them. If you have a lot of food shopping and its hot, it can be a bit of a struggle. If you are disabled or have real trouble walking up steps, I wouldn't suggest staying here. However, once you get up there and into the apartments themselves, the view is spectacular, so I say well worth it.

The apartments cater for everyone so we (a couple in our late twenties/early thirties) were amongst retirees and young families as well as couples of a similar age. It was quiet and friendly and very relaxed.

The pool area is a bit small, but lounging on the terrace in the afternoon was great. I noticed on the reviews that the pool bar wasn't open but I'm pleased to say that they opened it on Monday for the forseeable, after having what appeared to be a refurb. The food was lovely and drinks were very reasonable (12 euros for 2 x burger, chips and beer.)

Puerto Rico itself is a bit "brits abroad", you'll find a lot of British run bars and restaurants so if you're going to GC to get some authentic cultural lifestyle, you won't find it here! But saying that, I found the area to be pleasant and fun. I hate tacky "Benidorm/Kavos-esque" types of places myself, but Puerto Rico isn't like that. It just has a taste of the Brit about it!

The beach was a 10 minute walk away, the bus station to all attractions was about as far and you only have to walk 2 minutes down the steps to the nearest supermarket and bars. All in all, a really wonderful place to have a holiday and I couldn't recommend Tamanaco enough. The only thing that lets it down is that you don't get any air con, which was a struggle. We were provided with a fan which helped, but I would say that was the only downside.

Great apartments in a wonderful location!

Room Tip: Try and get an apartment thats on the 5th or 6th floor, balconies are bigger and the views are incre...

Stayed in the Tamanaco apartments for 2 weeks from the 3rd of July to the 17th. The apartments themselves are liveable. No air conditioning or fan but in these kind of apartments there never is. There were a few big problems.
The pool bar was closed for the entire stay
The toilet constantly flooded
After practically every game of pool the pool table would break and someone from reception would have to come out.
Hinges coming off doors on the presses.
All of this was annoying (especially the pool bar) but you'd get ever it. The main problem was that stuff was taken from our rooms after it was cleaned. A touch screen iPod nano, Hat and a polo shirt were missing. When this was reported in reception the receptionist didn't really look that surprised and said what could he do but that he'd asked the cleaners when he saw them. When I went back the next day he avoided looking at us until we went over. Then just said the cleaner said she didn't and that's all he could do. His English was perfect up until the point we were arguing with him when he made some stupid claims and then suddenly he couldn't understand as he had bad English. There was no apology are even resemblance of sympathy from him that we were robbed in their apartments. Besides the day we were robbed there were other days when we returned to find things had been moved about but nothing taken even though the rooms hadn't been cleaned. On checkout the receptionist barely said a word to us.

These apartments ticked all the boxes. On arrival, a tasty bottle of complimentary red wine and a 2 litre bottle of water was waiting and the room was immaculate. The hotel was very quiet but quite busy nonetheless, this contributed to a very relaxing atmosphere. The rooms were spacious, pleasant and very clean. And although the pool area is very small, it is very adequate and well kept and is perfectly located for the afternoon sunshine hours. The pool bar is very reasonably priced, and as with the entire hotel, the staff are very friendly, helpful and able in English. The housekeepers visited at appropriate intervals and bath towels were regularly changed. There are safes available to use, but I felt very relaxed regarding security and trust during my stay. The location is perfect as with a walk down a staircase you will find yourself at the commercial centre, where the majority of Puerto Rico's restaurants and nightlife can be found. Despite this, noise was never an issue and 7 nights of uninterrupted sleep made my holiday experience all the better. A stroll to the beach should take no longer than 10 minutes. I stayed in room 201 during my visit and views from the room's balcony and dining area looked over the town and down on to the sea, to my pleasant surprise.

I stayed at Tamanaco Apartments from February 18-25, 2012. I traveled with my girlfriend as a couple, we both found our hotel experience flawless and hope to return in the future.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny with a lovely dining area with a view to the town centre

Just back from a week staying in these apartments. Found them to be great value for money. The apartments themselves were very spacious & nicely decorated. The location was ideal in that it was near enough to the commerical centre for all the action but far enough away at the same time! The apartments were also cleaned almost every day. The only 2 downsides of these apartments I found were 1. the pool is kind of small & 2. the food at the pool bar/snack bar wasn't great. In saying that we only used the pool for a dip & you can always walk down to the commercial centre for lunch which is only a few minutes walk away.We will definitely be coming back next year & staying here again.
