“Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

The Gran Amadores does not pretend to be a 4 star hotel, but it is really good at what it does. Great location, excellent staff, really good facilities on site (pools, bar, mini-market, free wi-fi). The rooms are really good with separate bedroom, bathroom and lounge/kitchenette. It is one of the cheapest bars in the entire area for drinks and quality food (don't miss the home-made sangria). It is convenient for bus stops, taxis, local Spar and a very short walk to the beach/strip.

Of course the towels could be a bit fluffier, there is no air-con and early in the season the bar doesn't open until 11.00am so you need to make your own breakfast or go out. But if you can live with that then this is a fantastic location.

Having read some reviews was a little concerned on setting out. However, the hotel is lovely rooms are basic but were spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel. The pools were clear and clean, the staff were cheerful, helpful and always friendly and polite. The bar restaurant was great and the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. I would not hesitate return. There is a lovely beach with shops and restaurants 5 mins walk away and a Spar supermarket just round the comer. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation

Room Tip: For lovely views go for 2nd or 3rd floors

The Gran Amadores is located 500 meters off the Amadores white sand beach and 1.5 kilometrs from the main resort of Puerto Rico. The hotel is clean and well aired The rooms are spacious and an ideal location for couples and families alike with a wide range of activiyies on site. The pool is lovely with wide range views of the sea and beach. Highly recommended as an holiday stay or base to explore the lively port town area. Far enough away to be relaxing but close enough to be a able to enjoy the vast night life with regular bus trips or a short taxi ride about 3 euros.

Room Tip: op for a pool or sea view as opposed to the mountains.

I've been there for one week and these holidays was great. Rooms was clean, but standard was quite low. Quite loudly, almost impossible to sleep in living room. Only one sleeping room, we've ordered holidays for 4 people, but get only one room with 2 beds. Playa de Amadores is the best beach in south Gran Canaria and that was very positive. Hotel's bar cheap and great - pommes fries with 1/2 chicken - not more than 8 euro. Large beer - 2,90 euro.
Amadores is a very safty place, a lot of police. Great hotel for this price.

Room Tip: The best view is on the 2nd and 3rd floor. If you are 4 people family, take 2 rooms.

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Gran Amadores apartments and really enjoyed every minute. The rooms were spotless as was the pool area, pool bar and reception, the pool was also cleaned daily and the water quality checked. The staff were always friendly and helpful and there was always someone on hand if you had any questions.
The views from our secnd floor balcony were wonderful, particularly the sunsets and it is just a short walk from the apartments to the beach area and although it is only a twenty minute stroll to Puerto Rico it is a totally different resort, much quieter and the new spa being built next to the champagne bar will be a great addition to the resorts facilities.
One teeny, tiny little thing I would change. I would have prefered a kettle in the kitchen to the coffee machine, next time I will take my own and there will definitely be a next time.

Room Tip: Go for a second or third floor room for the best views of the bay.

Just back from a week self catering at the Gran Amadores. I have previously stayed in Amadores which in my opinion, is a breath-takingly beautiful place and have stayed at bigger and supposedly 'better' hotels. This holiday was booked on a budget and the Gran Amadores certainly did not disappoint. The rooms are simple but comfortable and each one has a view of the beautiful Amadores Bay. For around 40 euros extra per week, ask for an apartment on the 2nd or 3rd floor as the views are wonderful from your balcony which is of ample size and which is furnished. There are two pools which are kept beautifully clean and ample sunbeds for the amount of visitors to the hotel at this time of year (2nd week in september). One downside is there are insufficient umbrellas and with the temperature topping 35 degrees plus, this is something that the hotel really needs to look at.
There is an on-site laundrette tucked away round the back and fans are available to rent from the reception at a very reasonable price of 9 euros per week plus a returnable deposit and as there is no air conditioning, these are a must for a reasonable night's sleep. The staff are very helpful and very friendly and there is a cracking little pool bar which does some lovely little snacks and also more substantial meals at very reasonable prices.
The area of Amadores is just gorgeous and although just around the bay from Puerto Rico is a whole world away. The area is quiet and peaceful with shops and some lovely restaurants which line the stunning bay and sitting with a glass of wine watching the sun set is a lovely end to the day. If you are looking for a more active holiday, Puerto Rico is within relatively easy walking distance but it is hilly in parts which makes it difficult for less mobile visitors. For anyone who isn't aware, the availability of taxi's on Gran Canaria is great. Reception staff are always happy to telephone a taxi for you, which arrives within two minutes. The Europa Centre is situated at the top of the hill, again a 3 euro taxi ride (very steep winding hill) where there are shops, bars, restaurants and the brilliant Barbacoa bar which puts on some excellent shows on a rolling programme.
I will definitely be back to this friendly little hotel and would recommend it, and the area of Amadores without hesitation.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra and choose either a 2nd or 3rd floor room with view of the sea and the stunning...

First impressions of the complex and the apartments were very positive. Its location was excellent and check in was easy, with the receptionist being very helpful in allocating us a top floor apartment. The layout means that all apartments have a pool view and certainly from the top floor a sea view as well.

The apartment was roomy with a decent sized balcony, but no kettle, which is important for a teapot like me, so we had to hire one from reception at €1 a day. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, but the sofa bed definitely wasn't and our daughter had to sleep on both 'mattresses' to even be remotely comfortable.

The sheets were only changed once during our 10 night stay and a couple we met whilst we were there said that their's were not changed during their weeks stay.

The nights were very hot, about 24 - 25 degrees and there is no aircon, so sleeping was difficult despite the comfy beds.

The main pool was very cloudy, whilst the slightly smaller pool was much clearer. It didn't bother us though and we put it down to being salt water. There were sufficient sunbeds, but many had towels on long before the sun appeared over the cliff.

The pool bar has 'happy hour' all day on many drinks (not soft drinks though) and was good value. The mini-market behind reception was certainly 'mini', but was also reasonable, especially for large bottles of water which saved carrying them from the Spar which is just a couple of hundred yards away.

Reception is not 24 hour, closes during the afternoon, and some of the receptionists barely speak English. The one's who do though were always helpful.

Some of the restaurants along the beach front we found to be excellent and other not so good, but not bad either. Eating whilst watching the sunset each evening was a nice bonus.

Overall we were not disappointed and thought the apartments were good value (for what we paid through lowcostholidays.com). Only simple issues like another change of sheets and a kettle provided free of charge would have resulted in a higher rating.

Room Tip: Apparently the rooms to the left as you look at the complex suffer from a nasty smell from the drain...
