I have just come back from a week at the Arimar with my boyfriend.
After giving some details to the receptionist we were told that our key was in our door (number 50) little did we know this was right at the top and had the drag our cases up 5 small flights of stairs. Luckily we only had one main case so I took the 2 hand luggage cases up. Our apartment was round the back and NOT like the ones at the front of the hotel. There were cats around which we did hear about before, if you don't pay them any attention they'll leave you alone. To greet us at outside our front door was 2 dead cockroaches, we struggled for about 5 minutes to open the stiff door. When we did get it open, part of the frame came with it. We had to leave our room like this all week as we didn't want to draw attention to it even though the maids came in and obviously saw it. -they still didn't fix it. One day we came back to the frame outside, passers by knew our door was broke! Wasn't happy about this. People had said that when they complained staff didn't like it. We just took valuables out and luckily didn't have our apartment ransacked!
Apart from the decor being a bit dated, the apartment seemed fairly clean. Although it didn't look like it had been swept as there were 2 dead spiders & dirt on the floor too.
I don't think our sheets were changed during our stay. Our room was cleaned every other day and they did an ok job.
The shower curtain in the bathroom stunk to high heaven. Didn't even want to touch it. The shower head was aimed at the back of the bath and you couldn't move it which meant the water was running along the back and down onto the floor.
Walking to the shops & restaurants was a real work out. Including the steps at our apartment there were over 200 more! Ok walking down but walking up was not much fun. Especially if you want to come back in the day about 2 when the sun is hitting 27 degrees!
Didn't go to the pool and definitely didn't eat from the bar thing.
I've had cheaper holidays in better accommodation, I suppose I'll just make sure I book with a travel agent next time. Most of the apartments in Puerto Rico seemed really run down so there are probably a few like this one. Not a total nightmare but wouldn't go back
