“Not a 4* hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

Definitely not a 4* hotel.
I had a reservation, I paid for it and waited for 3 hours at the reception before they gave us the room. (Anyone who new somebody from the stuff, was immediately served, but not us.)
When I made the reservation and, again, later when I transmitted the payment details, I reminded them I have a 12 yeared child with me. But they put a baby bed in our room.
Overall, it was a nice room, pretty comfortable and clean.
All inclusive was kind of poor and not enough good food for everybody and not various at all.
It is definitely too expensive for what it offers.
I'll avoid it for the future.

Majority of hotels in Mamaia dates back to the communist times. Best Western Savoy is not different. The first impression is therefore not good. Still this is not really important. However the interior is also worn out, needs complete refurbishment.
Service is poor, cleaning of rooms well below the 4-stars standards. The problem is that Romanians seem to be used to poor service and the majority of guests is local.
Food is good, but not very varied and after 2 days you run out of options. It's even worse if you are vegetarian... At the entrance you can see that there is Lebanese cusine - no way. That is long gone...
The parking is small so there are low chances you will get a place.
This year the hotel introduced all-inclusive formule (and Demi-exclusive), with cocktails by the pool, but all you can get is vodka+orange juice or rum + cola.

All in all: definitely not a 4-star hotel...

On positive side: wi-fi seems to be working fine in the entire hotel.
The beach is wide and sandy, but you will have to pay for the chairs.
The pool is quite large.

We come first to the Savoy and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel and service quality. They offer all inclusive, rarely something on our beaches and even strives to be satisfied customers. The staff is really young but very friendly and welcoming. Room cleaning was done every day and bedding changed at 2 days. They have two renovated pools and many facilities for children (nerf, swings, slides, playground and mini disco porgram with clown). We will definitely return next year

Room Tip: Rooms with sea and lake view are quieter.

This is by far not a 4 star hotel, not in US standards anyway. We paid $200/night for a Jr suite for 3 nights in Aug. The room was disgusting. It reeked from the bathroom and the whole entire suite smelled so bad we had to air out the room the entire stay. The only solution to 'fix' it was by putting an air freshener in our bathroom. The only redeeming quality to this location is the beach (which you have to pay for a chair).

Mamaia is a beautiful place and we spent minimal time at the room, but if you can get another hotel for this amount of $, go for it. This was a very disappointing stay.

Room Tip: Choose one of the top floors.

am fost doi ani la rand la acest hotel! anul acesta, hotelul si serviciile au decazut mult! NU functioneaza aerul conditionat corespunzator ,este ca un ventilator!
- Nu are servicii spa.
-NU are fitnesS
-Nu are sauna
-NU are wi-fi decat ocazional
mobilierul vechi
parcarea insuficienta.
pretul Exagerat de mare, total nejustificat pt serviciile oferite!
evitati acest hotel si litoralul romanesc!

Again, you get what you pay for. Im not sure who monitors the star rating system throughout Europe but this hotel is definately not a 4 star. I have learned that as a rule, you can take away one star from every hotel that uses that system. Although this hotel is priced as a 4 star, it is during the "busy season" for them. You can see clearly that they have tried to remodel but unfortanately it is also clear that they tried to do it as cheap as possible. There are to many things to list they do not work or have not been finished. Number one is probably the a/c system which obviously for a hotel of this size would be upwards of $100,000 to completely re-do. Hence, the cheapest way out they could get away with. I would also like to state that in this part of the world it is very very tough to maintain a 4-5 star hotel. The people allow there children to run around the entire hotel like it is a playground swinging on the drapes, coloring all over the walls and visibly making a mess everywhere making it almost impossible for the owners. I understand the owners thinking but this star system must be updated and the buying of stars stopped !!

Room Tip: Go as high up as possible to avoid the continous music !!

Hotel was very disappointing, had to pay quite a high subsidy for having a very small dog with us. The room was dirty, stains everywhere and very old fashioned. The TV kept malfunctioning, view from the balcony looked like the building was not maintained properly. The choice at breakfast was pretty poor, the equipment in the gym was falling to pieces. I wish I had booked the Vega next door.
We left 1 day early and asked if we could get a refund for the last night, they pretty much laughed at us then quickly hurried up to the room to get it ready to rent again.
Definitely wouldn't go back.
