“A so-so but pretty good value hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

I stayed in this hotel in the peak tourist season in July for two nights and it was interesting. I did not eat at the hotel so I can't comment on the food. The hotel was clean and most of the staff was courteous. I was the only American in the hotel, heck, I didn't see any other Americans or Westerners for the duration of my short trip in the entire resort. The rooms were clean and I had a good view of the beach. The only strange thing was that I reserved the room at a discount on a booking website. The rate was quoted in USD, to be paid in Romanian currency. When I was checking in, the front desk lady took my reservation and then quickly showed me an amount in Romanian leu and I gave her my credit card. Luckily, I was on my guard and I quickly requested my credit card back so I could do the conversion myself. I discovered that she was charging me the "walk-in" rate and completely ignored my reservation rate. I had to take the calculator from her, because she was being frisky, and actually show her how I did the calculation, gesticulating toward the reservation rate on the paper. She then wised up, and, without a sign of embarrassment or sympathy, admitted I was right. Overall, I would recommend the hotel. It was a great value, especially when you consider the location, which is impeccable.

Room Tip: All the views are great!

The best assets of this hotel are the position (right across the street from the beach) and orientation (rooms on both sides can have a sea view). But these are of course the merits of the architects and designers who projected this hotel in this place/position when it was built. Rooms have no balcony though. The rooms still have old fashioned furniture (doors of the closet wont stay closed) and the cleaning ladies presence is not to be felt very much in the room, although they can be seen all the day long dragging vacuum cleaners along the corridors. And when you check out they must first ”allow” you to do so...that is, after they check you have not stolen anything from the room! These are bad, old-fashioned ”manners” from the communist times which are not used anymore nowadays in any other hotel in Romania! Another hotel (also 2 stars) located just 100 m away from Doina does NOT have these habits! So it is not the stars but the people :( The restaurant is very poor, scarcy offer (and still many ingredients missing so you can not even get what is on the list) and all dishes contain meat. Vegetarian people will die for starvation, unless they can be pleased with the very small salads. I suggest avoiding this hotel...at least until they understand there is something wrong in their approach and would eventually change something

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view but none has balcony. There is a balcony only at the end the corridor, on ea...

The 2 star hotel has a very good location, close to the beach. The hotel is an old one though but with some small investments was restored to look decent both inside and outside. It has rooms with or without air conditioning. We had here one room without AC at the 9th floor in late August with a north view and it was ok considering the outside temperature was around 20 Celsius during the night and 32 C during the day. I am not sure if we would have survived without AC at 29-30 Celsius during the night though. The view from the window was splendid but no balcony for our room. Maybe an apartment would have one. The access is done by magnetic card and even the furniture is a little old it was very clean both inside the room and toilet/shower. The personnel were very kind and willing to help and the reception is multilanguage.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms give you a great view for both lake and sea beach. A north view one will protect...

The only good thing of the hotel is that the beach is next to it. The basic room is small, there is no hot water at night, and you need an AC if you are not used to sleep in high humidity places. There is no wireless at the rooms, just in the lobby. Look for something else if you are really worried about the accommodation, with respect to the beach.

Been there for one week. Had an apartment at the 2nd floor with 1 bedroom and 1 "living-room" which was fairly small. Working A/C in the dorm, 2 big single beds (which could've been easily united) and an expandable couch in the living-room. The bathroom was ok, hot water at all time. Doors secured by card. Nice view, but the higher the better. Modern and clean elevators. Extremely close to the beach.

Room Tip: Higher if you want a better view.
