“Chianti gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

My wife & I first ate here a year ago, a chilly night, we ate indoors a fabulous meal with friends and were entertained by the staff. We've returned to Panzano and this little gem of a restaurant has not disappointed. With a warm evening we sat outdoors with a fine view of one of the many Chianti valleys. The owners are in attendance and it shows in the quality of the food and knowledge of the local wines. Come for the wine & a snack or a full meal, you'll receive the same attentive service!

“Nice bar / restaurant in Panzano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Very cool bar / restaurant in Panzano ... just off the main road and next to the church. It has a beautiful deck with great views of the Chianti countryside. Good wine / food (we just had the bruschetta ... but aweome) and very friendly service. Overall good feel to the place (low key). Highly recommend.

“Very good food, friendly and warm people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

This restaurant is warm and welcoming and the food and wine are excellent. It is a simple place with an amazing view from the terrace. In the winter, it is small but comfortable inside with a nice fire going.
The pappa al pomodoro is the best I have ever had, and they serve the wines of the area seriously, but without the heavy price tag of other enotecas. You can sit on the terrace all afternoon with your friends and continue to snack and sip wine.
The owners are also the cooks, and they are kind and friendly.
I believe the person that gave Il Vinaio a low rating had a misunderstanding - if trout was ordered and it tasted like salmon, that is because here in Italy you often get what they call "Trota Salmonata" which is a freshwater brown trout. It is pink on the inside and tastes like salmon because of its diet. The customer could be thinking of another variety, of which there are many.
It would be a shame to miss this lesser-known locale in Panzano - it's worth the trip up the hill, plus you can see the town church right across the street!

“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I first found this place while visiting Panzano with another couple. Out back was a beautiful deck overlooking a picture postcard Tuscan view. The menu is simple but each dish was delicious. Brian, our waiter, speaks roughly four languages, was extremely helpful in explaining each dish and knows the area wines in depth, knowledge he received from the owners, Paolo and his wife Teresa. During our 2 month stay in Panzano at Podere la Casa, we frequently returned to Il Vinaio for the great food - fettunta, sausage and white beans, and the soup of the day - the good company of Brian, Paolo, Teresa and the chef, Carolina. If the soup happens to be Piselli, do try it. Simple and delicious. And my thanks to Teresa and Carolina for sharing the recipe! A great place to share a bottle of wine, chat, use the WiFi and talk with friends.

“Excellent little restaurant/enoteca at the top of the hill.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Stumbled upon this restaurant after walking up the hill to the church. Cozy. Friendly staff. Great food. Try the Tuscan tomato stew. Fabulously tasty on a chilly day.
