We had a fantastic second visit to Podere Salicotto last July (apologies Silvia and Paolo for such a late review). For us this is the perfect holiday accomodation - the house is superb with the most beautiful 360 degree views of the Tuscan countryside from the terrace / pool & Silvia's breakfasts are simply the best we have ever encountered - all homemade or from local producers. The rooms being cleaned every day and the air con is the icing on the cake.
The area is full of stunning scenery and lovely towns and villages and being Italy of course the food is excellent. For those days when you don't fancy going out for lunch or dinner there is a communal kitchen where you can cook or barbecue outside. There is even a wine cellar where you can help yourself as well as a chiller cabinet in the kitchen for beers and water - you just leave a note in your room and pay when you leave.
What makes Podere Salicotto so special is Silvia and Paolo who are so kind and helpful and who speak excellent English (and various other languages too). They go out of their way to introduce the guests to each other and organise events such as wine tastings and cookery classes but still give you plenty of privacy. Also Buonconvento has a station which is a 5 minute drive away and you can be in Sienna in half an hour and Florence in an hour and a half - much easier than driving into the city centres and having hassle with parking. This is such a good place to be based for seeing the sights - Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino are all 25 - 40 minutes away and there are plenty of vineyards even closer by to visit. There is even a restaurant a 5 minute walk away despite the fact that you are in the middle of the countryside which is very handy if you want a drink or 2 and don't want to drive.
The fact we are going back for a 3rd time this year speaks for itself - we can't wait! If you are considering Tuscany then look no further.
