“More of a business hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Our room was comfortable and well appointed and the staff friendly and welcoming. The hotel is modern and rather bland but comfortable and well situated in Buonconvento. It is let down by un underwhelming breakfast served in an underground room. However, they do serve proper coffee on request!

was visiting for a wedding over the weekend. staff were friendly and very happy to make the many changes i unfortunately had to make. the hotel is in the very centre of the town which is great if you don't want to have to drive also in the evening for dinner!

This is a very convenient hotel to stay in while touring Tuscany. The rooms, though sparse, are very clean and comfortable. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Stay on the first floor, if possible.

At least the location of this hotel is good - right in the center of the cozy little village of Buonconvento. That's about it though. Rooms are clean but horribly unpersonal - there's nothing on the walls, nothing to make the place a little bit cozier. Kind of felt like a hospital room. The hospital feeling continued down in the breakfast room, where a waitress (that must hate her job very much) was basically throwing cups and cutlery on the tables, making the whole place so noisy that you had to have breakfast as quick as possible in order to get away from the noise.

Warm welcome from Fredericka the receptionist who spoke excellent English. Nice large bedroom with an equally large bathroom. The sheets were wonderfully clean and crisp, comfortable bed with extra blankets available which we did need to make use of, could have done with some extra pillows, none available in the room but I'm sure Fredericka would have arranged some if we'd asked as she was very helpful.

There is a sun terrace on the top floor, unfortunately we weren't able to make use of this during our stay due to bad weather but I'm sure it would be a nice bonus to relax on the sun loungers and read a book in the sunshine.

Buonconvento is a beautiful mediaeval town with one main street and the hotel was a new addtion at the end of this street so very convienently situated for bars and restaurants.

Breakfast sadly was a bit of a let down, the usual continental style but rolls were brought out a few at a time and were gone as soon as they were on the table as were the ham and cheese slices. No fruit available at all which was unusual and a shame.

Saying that we enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back there.

My wife and I found the Ghibellino in '05 when a nearby "agriturismo" we had booked turned out to be awful, and we had to find a place fast as night was falling. It's a quite new and very attractive small modern hotel, very reasonable rates, and our room turned out to be very clean, large, attractive, comfortable, with a small deck overlooking an open square. The great surprise was the totally contemporary bathroom with a good shower. The next morning, breakfast in the basement cafe was excellent, with just-baked croissants prepared by an owner's family member. Buonconvento, being on the historic Roman road linking France and Rome (National Route 2) is on flat land but within 1/2 hour to 1-1/2 hours drive of wonderful "hill towns" including: Siena (1/2 hour) ... Montalcino ... Pienza ... Montepulciano ... and (a favorite of ours) the small but beautiful San Quirico (20 min.). The Ghibellino is not "quaint," but easy walk into the medieval center, good cafes (try Da Mario's), galleries, shops etc. It's a real value and with very friendly, nice staff. Check their website (Google it)
