A charming small town with plenty of locals as well as tourists. On the main North-South train line so ideal transport facilities.

Built right out onto the edge of the cliffs, the view is quite spectacular. The view of the cliff edge buildings are better than the old town. Having said that, there's a few lovely buildings in the old town. Gelato here is good too!
The old town lies between the modern town centre and the sea. It is a maze of narrow streets which often come to an abrupt end with a sea view. There are churches and a few cafes especially in the main square. A tourist train runs from opposite the archway entrance to the old town around the town.
We went to the beach early - it was lovely and a friendly local made us cheese toast on some rocks that were still hot from a bonfire the night before! Beautiful spot. We also walked around the old centre before all the tourist shops were open - which we thought was a nicer state to view the town in! Views are great from the lookouts in the old centre. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are nearby.
It's not the historic center which is the most amazing, but the physical situation. I would recommend a walking tour starting at the Largo Gelso where you have some parking lots and the famous "Volare" statude of Domenico Modugno. From there you will have a first view down on the famous crove. Continue on the Via San Vito in direction of the center (Piazza Verdi). The best view will be on the bridge before the Piazza. I must admit that I spent there a lot of time enjoying the view and the crystal clear water. I just envy the people living in Polignano the whole year. As it abounds of local police, please feed the parking machines (free parking beween 1pm and 5pm, otherwise you will have topay.
Lots of interesting churches to visit and lots of shops. Do not go
too early or during siesta time. Plenty of cafe's to have cappuccino or eat.
