We used the New Year special offer of the Entourage and stayed there as a family with four persons in two rooms for three nights. The hotel was fully booked, it was necessary to book in advance. We enjoyed the gala dinner at New Year´s Eve and had a great time with the other –mostly - Italian guests. Good food, dancing into the New Year, serene and cheerful mood!.
This is an exceptional hotel that even those guests who travel a lot and who are well acquainted with the four star standard will never forget. The aristocratic ambiente (in the early 19th century the historical palace Strassaldo was a seat of the Roal French Family and its court (entourage) combined with a cloistral atmosphere of tranquility (part of the complex is a monastry of Clarisse-nuns) create a unique opportunity to relax and have a rest.
The rooms are beautifully painted in light and friendly colours. Real wood oak furniture in Biedermeier style (burgeois period) and the preserved oak floor let you feel at home immediately. Beds and bathrooms are of good quality- In the morning (around 8 o´clock) you will hear church bells ringing, the cathedral is only a few minutes away.
The breakfast is typically Italian, coffee is made by a waitress (as much as you want) and brought to the table. Elegant vaulted dining areas and an ample bar in rural style convey an intensely original Italian atmosphere. The food and local wines in the bar are authentic and affordabable, the prices are definitely lower than in the near tourist centres such as Venice.
Most important is the friendly wellcome at the reception. In our case the overwhelming helpfullness towards a handicapped member of our family needs special mentioning. The city of Gorizia at the border to Slowenia (open border due to the Schengen treaty) offers interesting museums and historic sites. A car trip to the Adria (to be recommendend Grado and Trieste) takes only ca 45 minutes.
We recommend this hotel as something very special.
