“Great welcome. Lovely stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2008

This B and B isn't your usual chintzy, stuffy place. It's not mega posh either but sits somewhere nicely in between. A lot of thought has gone into the decor etc which won't be to everyone's taste - a bit too boutique hotel style to me - but for what matters most, it more than delivers:

1. Comfortable bed
2. Great shower
3. Spotlessly clean
3. Lovely, welcoming and helpful host in Monica and her family. No silly lists of rules and 'don't' other than a No Smoking sign.
4. Seriously good breakfast. Full Irish with local ingredients or pancakes and fruit. Both excellent.
5. Great location. Short walk into pretty fishing village of portmagee and great pubs.
6. Superb value. We paid 80 Euro's for our room (Didn't overlook sea)

Couldn't really ask for more. Can't emphasise how welcoming and warm Monica was. Felt that nothing would have been too much trouble so 5 out of 5 for customer service alone.

Monica is a fantastic hostess in this modernly decorated, brand new appearing B&B! This was our first good night's rest since arriving in Ireland. Portmagee Heights is a quiet little fishing village, but a wonderful location to get away from the big city hustle and bustle. This would be a great location to stay several days to travel up and down each half of the Ring of Kerry (this B&B is situated on the most southerly point of the ring). We stayed in the front bedroom, on the right when you enter the foyer. It's a smaller room, we were offered a larger room due to a cancellation, but elected to stay put, as the FREE wireless was accessible from this bedroom, without having to enter the common area. The views are lovely- you can see Valentia Island right across the bay. We will definitely base here on our next trip to Eire! It's extremely clean, comfortable, and hospitable. You must ask for pancakes for breakfast!

This was the cleanest B&B we stayed at in Ireland. The rooms were spotless, the showers wonderful. The breakfast tasty and prepared promptly. Monica was wonderful and gave us information about the local sites. I'm definitely returning to this B&B. The Ring of Kerry is beautiful and this B&B is located in a tiny fishing village at the end of the Ring of Kerry.

After staying at mediocre b&b´s on our trip around Ireland, this b&b was a blessing. It was spotlessly clean, modern, spacious, quiet, the owner, Monica, was very friendly and service-minded, and the shower had plenty of hot water and pressure. The breakfast was great. Our only problem was that they did not accept payment by card, and there was no cash machine in all of Portmagee. We did not have an Irish card either, which would have allowed us to make a cash withdrawal at the pub. We did not have enough cash to pay before we left, and we were in a hurry to catch one of the boats to the Skelligs (which Monica had booked for us in advance). The closest cash machine is in the village Cashivereen, a 10-15 min. drive away. But Monica called the boatman, who was kind enough to say he´d wait for us while we rushed off to the cash machine in Cashivereen. And to make sure we did not arrive too late for our boat trip, Monica told the boatman to collect the money for our stay at her b&b.

My husband and I stayed here one night in late March. Portmagee Heights is located on the Skellig Ring which comes off the Ring of Kerry. It is set in the little fishing village of Portmagee which is connected to Valentia Island by a bridge. The B&B is a beautiful new property. The rooms are very modern and extremely relaxing. The shower was amazing! We chose the superior harbour view rooms which face out to Valentia Island and the sea. It was wonderful to lie in bed looking out the window at the view and drinking tea while the rain lashed down. The owner is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was simple and good. We watched two donkeys grazing in the fields while eating. There are great walks in the area and the Skellig Islands can be reached from there as well. Portmagee did not seem as touristy as many of the other towns along the ring and has a good pub for dinner. My only small complaint about the stay is that despite having flat screen tvs in every room we could only get one channel in badly. Also, because the house is open plan and the floors stone sounds really echo around. We slept great at night, but it seemed somewhat noisy during the day. Make sure to get a look at the sky at night if it's clear - I haven't seen so many stars since driving through Wyoming!

We recently stayed at Portmagee Heights for one night as part of a weekend trip around the Ring of Kerry. Monica (our host) was very welcoming and friendly. Accommodation is of a very high standard with heated floors and good quality linen/furnishings. We paid 40 pounds p/p for a superior harbour view room which was really large & comfortable. Great shower too which is important.

Monica recommended a local seafood restaurant 'O'Neils' which is a restaurant/bar about 20mins drive away. We had to wait about half an hour for a table (being a Saturday night), but the seafood was great as was the atmosphere.

Unfortunately the boats to the Skelligs had not yet started, but apparently they leave from the port which is very close.

I would highly recommend both places, we had a great stay.
