“Highly Recommend Staying Here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2008

We stayed at Anthonas Apartments in August 2008. Firstly the location is great - in between Fira (main town) and Oia (perfect spot to watch the sunset). It's a 30 minute walk into Fira or a 7 euro cab fare.

The best way to reach Perissa and Kamari beaches (both black beaches) is to hire are quad bikes. We spent most of our days lounging by the pool area at Athonas Apartments and just took a day trip to Perissa and Kamari to check them out.

The hosts were fantastic and the apartment was great - comfortable, spacious, extremely clean. Each morning breakfast was delivered each morning when we were ready to eat. We had two balconies perfect for admiring the view and relaxing. The pool area is fantastic with plenty of lounge chairs to relax on.

I highly recommend the Athonas Apartments.

we loved this place, we stayed 11 days there during July-Aug 2008, this is a very clean apartment equipted with all neccessary kitchen stuffs, even though it is a family running hotel, it's very professional, and the owner was super nice and helpful to us. from every apartment there is a nice view of the sea. The only thing is that there is no beach or big supermarket nearby, u need to take bus or rent car to go anywhere, walking along the road is not a very nice experience.

This was our first visit to Santorini, and when our time was finished we returned home very reluctantly indeed. What an island! Finally, all of the things we love about Greece, wrapped up and waiting for us on one small island. And a lot of our experience was created for us by our stay at the Anthonas.

This was our first visit to the island, so we had spent some time beforehand trying to figure out the best location for our needs. We eventually hedged our bets and split our stay into one week at a hotel in Kamari, followed by one week at the Anthonas apartments.

By the time we arrived at the Anthonas, we were relieved to be leaving Kamari, but anxious to know whether we would be kicking ourselves for not choosing to stay somewhere in nearby Imerovigli, with a view directly over the Caldera.

We had chosen the Anthonas for a few reasons:
- we really wanted a decent-sized swimming pool (with a six-year old son, we thought a lot of the options in our price-range inside Oia or Imerovigli had pools more akin to bathtubs)
- we had read some opinions that the steep steps around the cliff-top villages over the caldera were not ideal for children
- we read another review on this site about the hospitality of the Anthonas owners, and it seemed like it might be a relaxing place for us to stay
- it seemed like a good location, a small bit outside of Imerovigli, overlooking the Aegean sea, on the way towards Oia, and a short walk to the Caldera view

Well, I have to say our expectations were greatly exceeded. We arrived to the perfect welcome from the owners. The Damigou family showed us the kind of hospitality that I had forgotten existed in this world - welcoming, friendly, helpful, generous, and yet not over-the-top in any way. They were genuinely delighted that we liked the place, understandably when you see the pride they take in keeping the Anthonas looking and functioning so well.

We were delighted with the quality and spaciousness of the accommodation - tasteful, comfortable, clean and well-equipped, with superb views from the two balconies overlooking a truly tranquil and beautiful vista of the azure Aegean sea. Within a couple of minutes of settling in, the owners arrived with welcome refreshments - home-made cake and orange juice - and already we were beginning to feel like we'd struck gold!

I can't say enough about the time we enjoyed on that second week. Beautiful breakfasts delivered up to us every morning, beautiful gardens tended to by the owners, daily cleaning of the apartments, a quiet complex, gorgeous swimming pool, great views, and a wonderful location to be based in - we had a car for the week. And all of the time the friendliness and discrete care of the owners ensuring that everything was ok for us. The only thing that I could imagine that some people might not like was the proximity of the road outside. However, it's just a fact of life on Santorini, and didn't intrude visually, but at busy times of the day one could hear some passing traffic from the poolside. It certainly didn't cause us any problem, and we enjoyed a great deal more privacy at the Anthonas than you would find in any of the village-based accommodations.

Thanks to a previous review on this site, we quickly found the shortcut onto the nearby pathway running along the caldera, with a spectacular view towards Oia and the evening sunset. So, the sunset was at 'our disposal' every evening. What we hadn't bargained for was that we also had the most spectacular sunrises every morning. Several mornings my wife and I rose at dawn just to marvel at the beautiful sunrise (being from Ireland, we had thought that a beautiful sunrise was just something created by special effects artists :).

Within three minutes walk there is a friendly taverna serving great home-made food, and a few minutes walk further away a larger restaurant (Iris) serving wonderful food with an amazing view of the caldera and the sunset behind Oia. A short drive away in the Oia direction is an excellent restaurant which we almost didn't notice. It's on the right hand side of the main road, but hidden. All that's visible is a little parking area.

Past this restaurant in the Oia direction is a hillside road connecting from the 'upper' road to the 'lower' road, passing the most idyllic Greek churches. On the lower road are beaches, and Pori port with its little restaurant and fishing boats.

Oia is unmissable, beautiful to visit, but is very busy in the evening time as crowds descend there from all over the island to view the sunset. Below Oia is Ammoudi port, an amazing fishing port where we had one of the best meals of our holiday, great service and prices, with some of the best sunset views in the world.

From the Anthonas heading east, Imerovigli is a stone's throw, 2 minutes drive. Beautiful as it is, I think we made the right decision about where to stay. For us, with a child, Imerovigli would have been a lot more challenging because of the climbing steps and general lack of space. Anthonas was much more appropriate for us.

Past Imerovigli, it's a short jaunt into the main town, Thira, which gets very busy with crowds of visitors, but is absolutely beautiful, with great shops etc. Worth a visit for sure.

Will we return to Santorini? ASAP. Would we return to the Anthonas apartments? Without hesitation. For us they were ideal, and we had possibly the most relaxing holiday we've ever had. Thanks to Luca, Liah, and Mr. & Mrs. Damigou. Epharisto!

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday with Anthonas Apartments. Their friendly efficient helpfulness was the best that we came across in our trip throughout Europe.
Rooms very comfortable and spotless, pool wonderful, breakfasts delicious - thoroughly recommend this to other travellers.

Our initial response was mild disappointment that the apartments did not provide views of the caldera. This was probably a misunderstanding on our part while researching. One must remember that great views are everywhere in Santorini, and views from the Athonas are very very nice.

The apartments are beautiful and imaculately clean. The entire layout of the small complex is very cozy and private with spectacular views to the East. The apartments are 3 years old so very new and well kept. This place is family run with a personal touch unmatched in the best hotels in the world. The hospitality of our hosts was very warm and non-intrusive. Some of the most beautifully maintained gardens on the island adorn the space around the pool and common area. We quickly realized that although the caldera view is quite awe-inspiring, most accomodations on the caldera side are quite cramped, affording little privacy. Thira is a 5-10 minute bus ride away from Athonas. We rented a scooter to get around and spent several days shopping and enjoying the views there. Also a 2 minute walk from the apartments towards Oia will bring you to what is probably the original cobblestone road leading up the caldera side with some of the best views at sunset. This road is travelled only by hikers and locals on donkeys and leads into Imerovigli. Our only regret is that we were only there for 5 nights. If you want an escape to paradise with privacy to kick back, read a book and chill, This place is hard to beat. We will definitely return for a longer stay.

  • Liked — Very clean, good layout and views, wonderful hosts
  • Disliked — A bit of traffic noise from street in front of hotel (not significant)

We stayed at the Anthonas Apartments for a week in September of 2007, and we enjoyed our stay immensely! We actually sent an email to Vallais Villa (which is run by the same family), but they were full. I think we were lucky to be diverted to Anthonas - the rooms were large and clean, there was a beautiful pool, and it was a bit more out-of-the-way, which we preferred. We had a second floor apartment with a loft and two balconies, which were perfect for enjoying the delicious breakfasts prepared by Mrs. Nikoleta each morning. I would warn everyone that this hotel is a bit hard to get to if you don't have a vehicle or do not like walking. It is easy to find, being on the road from Imerovigli to Oia, and there is parking available. There is also a bus stop across the road from the Anthonas... although we never figured out how to get the bus drivers to drop us off there. It took us a few days to find the path to the west of the hotel, which had a spectacular view of the caldera. It's a little rough at night, but we never felt unsafe, and there was plenty of moonlight to guide our way. Our "secret" shortcut was to access the path through the driveway of the Caldera Dreams Apartments down the street. We always had fresh flowers in our apartment from Mrs. Nikoleta's lovely garden, and the owners are so warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend these accommodations!

My husband and I took a risk when we booked a week at Anthonas Apartments as there were no reviews and oh what a great risk it was to take. The apartments are fantastic (cleanest we have ever stayed in), we stayed in Apartment 1 which was very big. The pool is gorgeous and Mrs Nikoleta provided us a different amazing breakfast every morning to eat on our terrace! The grounds are looked after by Mr Nikoleta and are blooming with wonderful flowers. The apartments are on the main road between Fira and Oia but they are higher than the road so very private. There is a bus stop about 100m away next to Thassos Taverna (where I might add we ate some of the best food on the island - all home made!). It took us about 15 minutes to walk to the centre of Imerovigli. We had such a lovely relaxing time here and I would highly recommend Anthonas Apartments.
