“5 star experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2007

My husband and I stayed at Astra during our honeymoon in July 2006. We were there for over a week, and stayed in three different rooms during our visit. We arrived several days earlier than planned due to a horrible hotel experience on another island. Our travel agent called Astra and they were more than happy to accomodate us even though the hotel was completely booked. George sent someone to meet us at the ferry at 4 in the morning. We stayed in their personal villa that they reserve for family. Once they had a regular suite open up, they moved us. Two days later, it was time to stay in the actual room we had booked, so they moved us again. The rooms are absolutely amazing. Especially the two bedroom suite that has a cavelike master bedroom and beautiful decor with art from a Santorini studio. Our other room had a huge bathroom with an outdoor jacuzzi that was perfect for watching the stars at night. I am in shock that tripadvisor has this labeled as a 2 star property. The service at this hotel is the best we have received anywhere in the world. I'll offer some examples. 1-Guests place their breakfast order the night before. However, there was never a problem with changing the time for delivery---even though we would usually ask for them to delay breakfast for half an hour or an hour, our food always arrived hot. 2-My husband called the front desk to ask for an iron. He hung up the phone and 30 seconds later, we were wondering why someone was knocking on the door. Our iron was already at our door. The gentleman who delivered it must have been running at top speed to get to us! 3-The front desk will adjust the temperature of the jacuzzi per the guest's request. 4-Johnny and George were terrific in the recommendations of beaches and restaurants. 5-I'm a clean freak, and was very pleased with the rooms being completely clean. Some things to be aware of: the pool isn't that big, but we didn't care because we were at one of the beaches everyday. This hotel doesn't have a spa, but they were more than happy to make a recommendation. There are a lot of steps, so make sure you are in shape! Overall, this was an absolutely amazing experience because of the excellent service and the beautiful views from our balcony. We have already decided that if we make it back to Santorini, we will definitely stay here again.

GREAT LOCATION, wonderful views. very traditional but the pool and the staff are awesome. Our bathroom was really smal and the fact that our bedroom was upstairs was a bit of a burden because of the unconfortable stairs. Try to get a single-stair room.

My husband and I just returned from our 2 week vacation to Greece and absolutely loved the Astra Apartments in Santorini! We love to travel and really enjoy staying in nice hotels, but we were blown away by the Astra! We explored the entire island and truly believe that we had the best view of the volcano and sunset from our balcony (even better than in Oia). Every employee was incredibly helpful and friendly, and they all really tried to make our time in Santorini magical. We will definitely return to Santorini and stay at the Astra in the future!

Unbelievable! We had heard about Astra from friends and knew we were in for a treat, but nothing they said could have prepared us for the actual experience. The owner, George, has earned his repuation on the island as the king of customer service. The view is spectacular, the breakfast on your own balcony is stellar (I'll never eat a croissant as good as the ones at Astra), the location - a great walk from Fira and a short drive to Oia - is the most ideal. Everything was first rate and we will be back! We loved the poolside "beds." But be warned - there are a limited number and they fill up quickly. The one with the canopy is a heavenly way to spend a relaxing day.

Take the day trip/sunset cruise to the volcano and hot springs. The one that Astra recommends is awesome. If you go this year, you will be delighted by Zoey, the tour guide.

I cannot say enough great things about the Astra. We researched for a long time before making our decision to get married at the Astra, and stay for 5 days. While the choices of Santorini accommodations are many and deciding on the one best place can be daunting, we were overwhelmingly happy with our decision. George and his staff have done an amazing job at offering impeccable service with professionism and courtesy. Nothing was left undone for our wedding arrangements (a sunset wedding at the pool) as well any other convenience we desired. And this is only matched by one of the best views in all of Santorini. It was also incredibly romantic, peaceful and quiet .The Astra was the best part of our 3 week Greece vacation/honeymoon which included excellent hotels in Crete, Nafplio, Athens and Rafina. It was just over the top!

The Astra was everything that people described and more! We were married on our balcony on May 5 with a breath taking view of the caldera framing us. George helped us arrange everything and it was truly unforgettable. We stayed in one of the new Jacuzzi suites and the Jacuzzi looked directly onto the caldera. The view was the best that I have seen and we have done extensive traveling through some of the best hotels. The service was Four Seasons caliber. We will definitely be going back.

My wife and I just spent eight great days at the Astra. The location of the place is ideal. It is at the highest point on the rim of the caldera, in the town of Imerovigli. The sunset view cannot be beat. The pool area is very inviting, with big beds and an attentive bartender. We spent a couple of days simply relaxing around the pool.
The staff is very helpful. We spent one night in a standard apartment
and the other seven in a superior apartment. The standard apartments are perfectly adequate, but I was glad I spent the extra money for a superior. I particularly recommend apartment number 5. It is an end unit and the views from its two balconies are unobstructed. It also affords the most privacy. I would certainly stay again at the Astra on my next trip to Santorini.
