“Beautiful retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Avaton is perched at the very end of Imerovigli. This is really the end of all the developments and properties -- meaning that being here is a place of upscale elegance, quiet, and tranquility. The hotel is boutique, with 9 rooms, and so it feels more like having your own private property, with an excellent concierge and butler, who are keeping just the right balance between ready to help, and allowing you to have your enjoyment of the space, amenities, and the view -- which is clear and absolutely breathtaking.

When you go, be sure to fully indulge in the lovely fresh breakfast - served daily in your room, inside or on the balcony. Then, consider a ramble - to the left is a 30-60 minute walk through the town footpaths to busy Fira. Alternatively, to the right is a gorgeous, windswept hike alongside fields, and in the springtime, blooming wildflowers.

In sum - if you want quiet, views, elegance, and calm, this is a very special place. Bring a camera.

We stayed here for 2 nights and Laura, the manager, and her team took exceptional care of us from our reservations to departure. The pool and its cave are just one of the awesome facilities there to make our stay more luxurious, special and memorable. Avaton has a great view and wide selection for breakfast which the friendly Alex delivers to our patio every morning. It is simply spectacular to wake up to the view every morning. Again we are grateful to Laura and her team for making our stay a very enjoyable one.

Room Tip: All rooms face the caldera. If you prefer one with more privacy, choose one which is located on the...

The hotel has excelent views to the caldera, in my opinion better than well renowned Oia. Services are excellent and only nine rooms, with seven or ten staff taking care of the hotel. Service is outstanding and cuisine is very good combination of greek and international taste. Wine selection is limited but excellent in quality. Don't miss the local whites (assirtiko) and reds.

Spa is excellent, professional massage services. The spa becomes the restaurant in the night, with a unique atmosphere. Breakfast have very good quality ingredients and preparation, service in rooms efficient and quality of small details is a concern of the management.

Suitable for people looking for a quiet hotel, enjoy the views and the terrace and long evenings enjoying sunset. Do not expect easy access to beaches, nightlife nearby (need a car to go to Oia or Fira).

We had the most awesome honeymoon/holidays ever.
The incredible view from the caldera was surpassed by the warm and friendly service staff!
Absolute recommendation: personal breakfast on your patio/balcony!

Room Tip: The superior rooms are definitely even better!

Stayed in this fabulously smart hotel for only one night, which turned out to be one of the trip’s many highlights in the airy, welcoming country of Greece.

Location:
This relatively new property (only 5 years old) is located at Imerovigli, the highest area in Santorini, commending a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea. In front of it there is a beautifully winding footpath leading to the town of Fira which is great for catering, shopping and strolling (many great, small shops stocked with fancy goods of a rich variety). The walk along this footpath is such a delight that offers a million angles of view of your surrounds. Prepare your camera and iPhone/iPad for shooting postcard-perfect pictures!!!

Accommodation:
My room (No.7) is bang near the smallish but pretty swimming pool. It is furnished to a rather high standard by European measure. All furniture is of sound quality and the bathroom is an apple in the eye and every functional. The shower pressure is so good and the shampoo & shower gel are both very pleasant in smell. At night, it is so quiet that I slept like a baby.

Room supplies:
Sofa smart. Bathrobe skin-friendly. Bed comfy. Towel basket in the bathroom pretty. TV posh. Lamps chic. Curtains pretty. Plant-woven skippers fancy (the only detail that may be bettered is the bathroom mirror, since it is covered by a mist after a shower. But who cares that little tiny thing during a wonderful holiday?)

Hospitality:
A true WOW factor found here. Laura, the hostess (Site Manager?) Laura is a total responsible and reliable lady who answers all my questions and offers great advice as to where to sightsee, eat and shop. I received a nice bottle of red wine as well as a basket of fruits (all tasty!!!) for free, which added a nice touch to this already-perfect stay and experience. The bellboy is quiet with all smiles, and he arranged breakfast and room service with grace and efficiency. The breakfast on the round table, with a panoramic view of the mountains and sea, is absolutely unforgettable.

Spa massage:
The massage specialist, Zoe, is a decent and dignified Greek lady. As a Spa addict and having tried many of the world’s top-notch Spa centers, I can safely say that her skills rank her easily on the top of the list!!! She knows absolutely what she is doing. I found her fingers working wonders on my fatigued shoulders and upper back. The setting and mood in the Spa room (cave house!!!) are beyond description, and the smell of her chosen oil is mesmerizing……

Food:
You can order room service from a decent range of choices, or eat in the Cave House in the Spa Center (where only limited seats are available, so book it well in advance). The lighting in the Cave House in the evening is so enchanting and the Jacuzzi looks such a pretty adornment to the dreamlike environment for your eating. Wonderful!!

All in all, this resort (housing only 9 rooms, each of which is so Beautiful) is a great choice of accommodation when visiting Santorini. If I come back again, I will waste no minutes in revisiting here for a longer stay, for sure.

Room Tip: Any room does wonders!

We stayed in the honeymoon suite at Avaton for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing! The room was beautiful and spotlessly clean, we had fresh flowers, fruit and wine on arrival in our room. We had two balconies in our room, one overlooking the main hotel and pool area which had the most amazing view of the sunset, and one private balcony where we had breakfast served every morning and with a private jacuzzi...absolutely amazing.

Laura the manageress was amazing, organising dinner reservations and quad bike hire for us, and Kostas brought our amazing breakfast every morning and looked after all the drinks around the pool and the restaurant. All the staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

The location was beautiful but probably not the location if you want to party the night away (which we didn't), it was lovely to come back from dinner and sit on our balcony watching the lights of Santorini though!

As we booked the suite we had a complimentary massage, done by Zoe, who was very friendly and professional. The sauna and the hydrotherapy pool with the beautiful lights was amazing.

On our last night we had dinner in the restaurant which was amazing, the food was delicious and we were looked after so well by Kostas, even having some complimentary champagne as it was our honeymoon.

All in all it was absolutely fantastic, I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to relax in Santorini, we honestly couldn't have asked for anything better for our honeymoon, thank you so much Avaton!

Room Tip: All the rooms have beautiful views of the Caldera and the sunset but the suites are particularly gor...

Avaton is a 5 star resort, and with good reason. Laura and her team have perfected the art of service delivery, and the quality of the experience is unrivaled to any that we have had to date. From the moment that you enter the property, you are showered with a luxurious feast for the senses as well as the immense view of the caldera before you. It is an intimate experience and the spa is invigorating. It is a little piece of heaven in Santorini. A definite must if you want the luxury!
