Ahhh, good old Hotel du Nord, in Corte, Corsica!

We traveled as a family of 4 and wanted to stay in the mountains for few days. Our main aim in Corsica was to have a beach holiday and to explore. Corte was a super find for us and we enjoyed every second we stayed in this hotel as well as in Corte in general.

This is and old hotel and far far far from Marriott, Hilton or Radisson chain. This is a unique Corsican town with this one of a kind hotel, that has no ground floor, no lifts but a staircase only to get to second floor while passing a historic cote of arms of the city.

We had to park in front to download then move the car nearby free car park on the main road. We knew about this before hand and this was cool, as the parking was only 75 meters away and free.

We were booked half board , only to discover that the hotel had no café or restaurant to dine in. this worked out well for us hence our breakfast was in a café downstairs, under our rooms and the dinner was in a trendy cool place to the side of the hotel. The food in both place was good, but the restaurant was superb. The cooking was top class and worthy several medals.

The room and very nice and overlooking main road. This is a true 2** hotel with no pretends. May be wee bit expensive for what it is, but it’s in a lovely little town and the citadel is 200 meters away.

If planning to stay in Corte, do consider this joint, as it’s not bad for few days stay. Have a look at photos, this hotel has some serious artwork hanging on their walls, but the one over the bed was missing, I wonder why? :-) see the photos. May be we had children with us, that's why it was removed?

Our room was very clean and we certainly didn't see any bugs, unlike the previous reviewer. The staff, well, a guy at the reception, was very helpful, spoke English and generally nice.

Enjoy
x

Room Tip: Unload you car in front of the hotel. We loved our room overlooking the main street, but one evening...

Bed Bugs in the room!
On the first view, the hotel looks nice and it's not very expensive, ideal to stay a night in core... BUT... the day after I had over 60 Bed Bug Bites, which created an ugly infection and ended up in the hospital in bastia! The discount of 10% for this disaster was more a defamation than a serious 'sorry'! Thanks Hotel du nord for ruining the last days of my vacation. I'll never would stay there again.

This couple was just coming back from several days in mountain, and refuges for trekking. The morning he told me he wanted free night because he said the he was bitten by insects...I have never had any problem with this room, and his wife didn't have any problem neither.....And If the problem was this guy?? And if the problem was coming from the fact that this man wanted discounts or free nights??? (I see in his past reviews that he finds bed bugs everywhere...) Come on, be serious.... If you catch bugs in the mountain, don't say you got them in town...this is nonsense...

Stayed two nights. Good breakfast in the pavement cafe below the hotel to start the day. Nice (though slightly noisy) location in Corte's main street. Air con worked fine. Room was OK though nothing special. Helpful staff.

Nice hotel in the middle of the town. Inside much nicer than the first sight from the street.
Nice breakfast in the cafe. They can order transport to the Restonica valley to get to Lac de Melo in the mountains. The Wifi is working :-).

We didn't believe the driving instructions, but they were spot on: right bang in the middle of the main street in one of Corsica's oldest cities. Parking in the immediate vicinity is free only at night and holidays, but there is plenty of on-street parking a few minutes' walk away.

Hotel du Nord is apparently the oldest hotel in the town, fully refurbished, and staffed by a team of friendly and helpful young men. It is an easy walk to the Citadel, the station for trains to Bastia and Ajaccio, and all the shops and restaurants. Breakfast (at the bargain rate of one euro) is taken at the cafe next door, where there is a range of cereals, cheese and meat, fresh bread, and first class coffee and hot chocolate. Our "Superior" room was clean. had high ceilings, a small but working bathroom, and swallow nests under the eaves outside the window.

Corte is very handy for the Restonica and Tavignanu valleys, and all the fantastic forests and mountains in central Corsica. If you have strong knees then it is worth staying around for a week or two to sample all the walks and climbs.

The town has many restaurants and fast food outlets, but they are mostly expensive and all with almost identical menus. However, Corte is not to be missed.

Room Tip: There are Standard and Superior rooms. The front rooms overlook the street and the back rooms look o...

We stayed for two nights early May. While the exterior is in bad condition, the room on second floor was renovated, large and confortable. The street below can be noizy late in the night.

The breakfast in the cafe below was the best of our 3 week stay in Corsica (variety of cheeses and jams, ham, bread - with a toaster -, croissant, butter, cannestreli, cake, yogourt, juices, coffee). Wifi was barely receivable in our room (but OK in the cafe and lobby). The cafe owner offers private transportation to the Restonica valley (Melo lake); 10E per person each way. Very convenient since no bus service was available at that period of the year and renting a car was 125 euros (!!) for the day.

Out of season, this hotel seemed pretty drab and functional. Although some effort had been made in the rooms, the furnishings were quite faded, and the bathroom was basic. It is obviously packed out with hikers in the summer, and is probably very different then - to me, it had the feel of an upmarket hostel, rather than a hotel. Great breakfast next door, though, included in the price!
