“Lucky Find in a tranquil setting: must have car.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

We lucked into getting two late rooms at the Arena after a frantic search in Corte, which is short on hotels. The rooms were perfectly fine, the buffet breakfast good, and the setting absolutely wonderful, at the start of a magnificent gorge that attracts hikers and sightseers galore. A river tumbles down the valley over plump gray stones: birds sing, tall pines tower all round. In good weather one could have breakfast in the pure air of this tranquil setting: in short, happy clients.
Note to Wobbly Walkers: the rooms are on the parking level, the reception and dining are down stairs which are many but not steep and have railings. Parking is good.
Negetive: the receptionist was a smoker and the area reeked of smoke, but happily she and the smoke were missing at breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a view over the river.

As others have mentioned, the hotel is located along a lovely stretch of river in the Restonica Valley. It's quite convenient for hiking in the valley. Corte is only a 5-10 min drive for dining and sightseeing. We took breakfast at the hotel and found it to be meager. The staff would be at best described as indifferent. Our room was quite small without much of a view.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

We stayed 2 nights in July, and found this hotel adequate but nothing special and a bit impersonal, especially for the price (20-30 Euros more per night than we paid elsewhere in Corsica). The setting is gorgeous -- out of Corte town, up the narrow road into the Vallee Restonica, overlooking the river -- and the location is convenient if you have a car and want to be out of town a bit. It's a 5-10 min drive into town for dinner, etc. Our room was big, with one large bed and an extra smaller bed in it, a small fridge (very convenient), TV, AC, a large walk-in closet area, and a tiny, cramped bathroom (strange for a relatively big room). The furnishing was a bit Ikea, but ok. The place was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and quite busy with families and couples spending time on the terrace and sitting along the river. We did not try the breakfast (served on the river-side terrace), opting instead for cafes in town. Wifi did not work at all at the hotel, and reportedly had been down for 2 weeks or more already when we arrived. The hiking in Vallee Restonica was gorgeous, but CROWDED (this was July) with lots of families walking the trails and spending time in and around the river pools. Hiking on the other side of town (Gorge Tavignano) was also gorgeous, crowded (though less so), and with lots of opportunities to cool off in the chilly river water (lots of clear pools, if you scramble down from the hiking path). We would go back to Corte, but would choose another time of year, and would probably stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Try to get room with balcony

Fell in love with the location of this hotel in the Restonica Valley - close to Corte, close to the main walks in the valley and nicely laid out with all guests having spacious rooms, balconies and tables and chairs. The highlight for me was the view of the valley but also the bathing pool in the river on the on the edge of the patio. (My son and I enjoyed exploring the river from this pool.)

Room was equipped with mini-kitchenette (not sure if that is true for all of the rooms and there were no pots or pans or cutlery) and satellite TV. Overall , the hotel was excellent value for money and included free WIFI. Breakfast was fresh with a super selection.

I ran in the morning up the valley and yearned to stay longer that the one night we had.

The only downsides I can think of were the many wasps who plagued us over breakfast and slightly mixed service but this was minor. I would highly recommend.

The hotel may be on the side of the valley road but it is right next to the tumbling river and all the rooms look towards the 'torrent'. Rooms are not luxurious or particularly plush but they are clean and have aircon which we do not particularly like but during our stay in August 2010 it was very welcome. The fridge in the room was not a fully stocked minibar but was simply available to store your own food and drink which was very useful indeed.

Ideally loacted for trips up the Restonica valley, Corte and the surounding mountains. We also used Corte as a base to take the spectacular train to Ajaccio.
A good breakfast but no evening restaurant but there is a very good one a hundred metres down the road.

The sunny patio has steps directly down into the rock pools that contain crystal clear mountain water - ideal for a cooling dip between sunbathing on the rocks.
