“Huge disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Three years ago a dinner at this restaurant was the surprise of our trip: superb food and service. We've been looking forward to returning to Langres and this restaurant since. We returned a few days ago. Result: a huge disappointment.
Context: four people, two Americans well-traveled in France, two French; two who love to cook and excel at it, all know and appreciate good food and service.
Our experience:
Seated at a huge table, suitable for six or eight, meant conversation was long-distance and somewhat difficult. Fifteen minute wait for menus, had to order the wine twice, server often reached across one of us to serve to another or remove a plate, even though there was plenty of room around the table.
The food: 32€ menu.
Entrée for three of us was "Gambas Madagascar;" two - count 'em - two small gambas each, with some chicken paté of some sort, in a really odd presentation. Main plats for three of us: Sandre, the Loire fish, about 2 oz each. Really. Each serving was about 1 inch by 2 inches by maybe 3/4 of an inch thick. Really. Nothing else on the plate. Tasteless: one of us finished it, two did not. The fourth main plat was duck, served to the Frenchman. When asked how the duck was, he replied, "Not very good. Dry and tasteless." Dessert was the French standby, Nougat glacé. In this case, a round slice about an inch across, with a daub of chocolate cream on top.
In this three course meal, we could not have had more than five ounces of food, and likely less. Maybe it was a good thing the servings were so small, since the quality was so low.
Summary:
Something has surely changed at this restaurant since three years ago, besides the name. Then we had excellent food, beautifully prepared and served. This time we had badly prepared food, pretentiously presented and badly served. I realize many have had excellent meals here and wish we had, but this was definitely among the poorest meals - and definitely the worst price/value ration - we've encountered in France.

“Disapointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013 via mobile

The food was bland and pretentiously presented. Hors d'oeuvre of ham and cantaloupe, I guess you can find everywhere, duck without taste. Sandre seemed out of the freezer. Nougat glace is in all the menus in France.
Good service however.

“Good but slightly OTT haute cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

This is a serious restaurant, to be taken seriously and it has much to recommend it, although some slight oddities too. We had the 45 euro menu and basically it was very good indeed - fine ingredients, carefully cooked, beautifully presented. My only quibble was some odd pairings on the plate. Perfect slices of foie-gras were paired with an overly aggressive red-fruit jam (blackcurrant? cherry?) which drowned rather than complemented the foie gras. A main course of lamb cooked in various ways was perfect - except that the key piece of meat came with a thick peanut crust which, again, fought rather than complemented. So full marks for inventiveness, but rather lower marks for some of the results. Service was good. With an aperitif on the little terrace outside, a good bottle of Marsannay, and the (optional) cheese plate, the bill was quite large, but a good deal less than you'd pay for cooking of this quality in London or Paris.

“A Special Treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Very good quality restaurant, and perfect for a special occasion. That said. I had a slight feeling of disappointment, having previously read the reviews. The food was beautifully presented but just didn't quite do it for me. We ate from the cheapest 32 euro menu and whether this was reflected in the dishes we had, I don't know. Like I said, a very good restaurant, but in my book, not deserving of the full 5 stars

“The restaurant is now called "Diderot"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

See the review in the hotel section of le Cheval Blanc.
As is said there: do not look for something else; this is the best in Langres.
