My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Rancho Pacifico- we stayed 10 nights in the 'Villa Exotica'. The service, the views, the food, and the way they seamlessly blended a 5-star experience with unpretentious atmosphere made for a perfect vacation.

The resort is unbeatable if you want to forget the world for a while, but the town and beach are close enough that the RP staff is always able to give you a lift. They also arranged activities outside of the resort without us having to lift a finger. It was great not having to coordinate every detail of the day. We can't say enough about the staff!

We decided to have lunch in our room each day, but ate breakfast and dinner in the Whale's Tail club (the only restaurant). The food was outstanding- it was unique and well prepared. Nearly everything we had blew us away. Dinner was $44/ person each night, but for a 5 course meal, we thought it was well worth it (we are not made of money, either).

5 stars for a truly unforgettable experience- we look forward to returning!

If there is a heaven, then for me it will looks something like Rancho Pacifico. We (my husband and I) spent 6 nights at this hotel, and between relaxing by the pool, hiking, bird and other wildlife watching, spa treatments, and enjoying delicious food and drinks we didn't need to leave the property at all! We could easily have stayed longer and taken some of the tours on offer... or just enjoyed more relaxing days!
We took the dinner and spa package and really enjoyed being pampered everyday.
The staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly. The rooms are lovely - and have magnificent views. The spa treatments (especially the facials) are some of the best I have ever had!
We would have no reservation about recommending this hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica, and we will definitely return!
Only one feedback point: please get another fan in the gym area - it gets very, very hot!!

My wife and I traveled here for our honeymoon and it was everything that we could have wanted! We were interested a mix of some activities and some just relaxing by the pool or at the spa, and RP was a great fit for that. Here were some of the things that we loved:

1) Everyone on the staff knew our names on day one and always greeted us warmly each and every time they saw us.
2) The food was incredible. We ate at RP for most every meal and were NEVER disappointed. Dinner is something new every night and we got to try some excellent Costa Rican cuisine as well as other international cuisine. Every meal included an appetizer, a salad, entree and dessert. It was an incredible value.
3) The setting was fabulous. The resort is situated high on a ridge overlooking Uvita and the Whale's Tail. Whether you are eating, getting a massage, or relaxing by the pool, you get to take in the unbelievable scenery.
4) Our spa experience (which was my first spa experience ever) was divine. We sat outside overlooking the ocean/jungle with a delicious tea while the previous spa visitors finished their sessions. Both of our spa treatments (deep tissue massage, coffee scrub) were top notch and left us feeling absolutely relaxed and refreshed. Also as a first time spa goer I was a bit nervous about the privacy (or lack thereof) involved in the experience, but it was 100% comfortable.

Some things to be aware of:
1) The ride up to RP is extreme. It is rather long (15 minutes) and airplane turbulence doesn't touch the bumpiness of the ride. As a result, we ended up staying at the resort 1-2 days more than we initially intended (instead of doing other activities).
2) RP is situated in the jungle which allows for closeness with nature. That means closeness with howler monkeys and toucans as well as some ants and flying bugs. Overall this was not a deterrent, but one should understand that you will very likely encounter bugs at RP just because it is situated amidst a jungle setting.

Logistical details: We flew with Sana Airlines from SJO to Quepos and then were picked up by the hotel staff. This was quite easy and I would recommend this method of reaching the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Villa Romantica, which was an excellent choice. The private pool was really nice to...

Rancho Pacifico is the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

Service:
The thing that makes this hotel stand out above every other hotel I've ever visited is the outstanding service. When we arrived, someone was there as soon as we parked our car to welcome us and attend to our bags. We didn't have to bother with anything. We were shown around the property and offered drinks, and the man showing us around even helped me spot some toucans in the tree above the pool. It was a delightful introduction to the hotel. Throughout our stay, every member of the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helped us with everything from arranging a last-minute private snorkeling tour to providing much-needed aloe for our sunburn. When we hired the hotel's vehicle to drive us to and from the drop-off point for a group tour one day, they prepared a delicious assortment of fruit for us to eat en route (we had to leave very early and couldn't make it to breakfast that morning), and when our tour was over, the Rancho Pacifico vehicle was waiting for us on the beach where the boat came out of the water; we didn't even have to travel back with the group to the tour's office. Each member of the staff remembered us and details about our stay in Costa Rica, and they conversed with us in such a friendly manner that we were always at ease. I really cannot rave enough about the excellent, excellent service at this hotel. It is as if every person at the hotel thinks: "What would make this experience even better if I were staying here?" and then does exactly that.

Property/Room:
Rancho Pacifico is a mini paradise hidden in the jungle atop a small mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the extraordinary "whale's tail" beach. The view from every vantage point was incredible, and each day we raced to get back to the hotel in time for sunset. Although we stayed in the smallest room on the property, it was wonderful. (The villas and treehouses must be spectacular.) Our bathroom was spacious and featured two shower heads so that we could shower together with the jungle noises outside, and you could run track on our balcony. My favorite part was that our windows were only covered in screen, no glass, so we were always in tune with nature during our stay. The breeze flowed right through our room, and we woke up each morning to the howler monkeys and the birds singing. (The weather was so temperate that this was never a problem.) The infinity pools and jacuzzis were great, the open design of the restaurant and bar was relaxing, and we had a good time exploring the property in general.

Location/Accessibility:
What makes the location so spectacular in terms of views and being close to nature is also what makes it difficult to get to. If you are driving yourself, you will need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to reach the hotel. We rented a little Suzuki Jimny, and while it did make it to the top, it may not have in the rain. Luckily, the hotel has a vehicle that can drive you around. This isn't free, but we found the charge to be well worth it to avoid going up and down in our little car. On the flipside, it was a short drive to everywhere we wanted to go, so it was a great jumping off point for day adventures. For our vacation, the location was ideal.

Food:
The food was very good, but there is some room for improvement here. During our stay, the chef prepared two types of dinners: upscale buffets two nights, and a la carte ordering the rest of the time. While the buffets were well thought out and gave the guests a diverse sampling of Costa Rican food with a gourmet twist, these dinners were simply good (they were certainly well above average for a buffet), but they were not fabulous. However, when we ordered a la carte, the food was excellent. The fish was succulent and flavorful, and the steak was absolutely perfect. The soup introducing one of our meals was superb, and my boyfriend and I agreed while we ate it that only a skilled chef could draw out the flavors present in that soup. The service during meals was first rate: polished, efficient and helpful in terms of pairings.

Overall Experience:
Perfect. Just perfect. Everyone was so happy to be there, and we certainly hope to go back one day.

Was lucky enough to stay here for four days (alone) and have nothing bad to say about it at all.

The food was the best I've had in my life (yes really), the wine was delicious, the spot was dreamy, the staff were charming.

I hiked on the property to a beautiful waterfall, which was definitely a highlight.

The views are so breathtaking that I, with the attention span of a gnat, could actually sit on my porch and stare at it for hours on end - particularly the sunsets, which were astonishing.

Also, I haven't been able to sleep without the TV/radio/ some type of busy noise on in the background for about ten years (I know that's weird) and for the first time in forever, I lay down on my bed at night and fell asleep to the magical sounds of the rainforest alone. It was so soothing and comforting.

Would come back in a heartbeat.

We waited years to be able to stay at Rancho Pacifico - specifically in a Tree House. The suite is amazing, with an incredible view. The views from every vantage point on the property are epic. We've loved the spa and the food, and everyone on staff has been so nice. We had an issue with our toilet in the beginning but after a few days the staff made sure to sort out the problem. One word of caution for future guests - the hikes are serious!! Take your time... and lots of water!
