“Heaven will have difficulties matching Rancho Pacifico, but God knows...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012 via mobile

First you need à 4WD vehicle to reach heaven, litrerally spaking the access drive being pretty steep. But once there at roughly 600 m above sea-level you are in/on the canopy with unlimited views on the Pacific ocean. The welcome and service are outstanding you feel being a close friend of the owner an American entrepreneur from the state of Montana USA. Thanks to an excellent Young local chef the cuisine is of very high standard. And dining with this view is an unforgettable experience. Two suggestions however : the swimming pool towels are really worn out and the guest being mosty American , there is a risk of forgetting the use of Spanish, the national language of Costa Rica !

I stayed at Rancho Pacifico in early January, it is truly a special place. The owners are a delight. The staff has been very well trained and tend to every whim. The guests were people that you would want to meet on a trip of this nature, smart, savvy and interesting.
Its truly a tree top shangri-la. Nestled in the mountains at about 2000 feet, they are a "green" resort. Keeping that in mind you are awakened in the mornings by the calls of howler monkeys ! It s an amazing sound that adds to the atmosphere of RP. There are jungle hikes, mangrove tours, surfing, whale watching , beach horseback riding or lounging by one of the two pools or in the hot tub. Had a magnificent stay!

Room Tip: if you are driving to RP, make sure to rent a 4wd. Its up a very steep winding dirt road.

I booked our week-long trip by internet/web searches only. I booked the Treehaus Suite for our highly anticipated trip. We arrived in San Jose late afternoon, rented a 4wd vehicle and GPS (which you should ABSOLUTELY do if you decide to stay at Rancho Pacifico), and proceeded on our 4 hour journey to RP. We arrived in Uvita in around 9:00pm. Know there are NO street lights, no street signs, and a 4km long drive up the narrow, bumpy, mountain to get to RP (which is why you must have GPS). I admit, I was a bit frightened as if you missed a fork in the mountain road, there was no room to turn around... Reverse was the only option. And going in reverse down a narrow, jet black, road was NOT my idea of a leisurely drive! Lesson to be learned: Don't arrive at night. Once we arrived, the long day was well worth the wait! Dinner was being served. Staff greeted us, unloaded our car, and insisted we come to dinner and relax. It was quite a spread too! After dinner, we were guided down a long, narrow, pathway down the mountain a bit to our villa. Again, it was very dark, but of course all the lights in the villa worked. We were a bit suprised to find our villa was mostly screened with white sheers for window drapery. We had a door which lead to the inside and another door which lead to the deck. Both of these doors were stationary, but to our surprise, there were no locks! Americans have a hard time with the concept of not locking your door upon leaving, especially with 2 laptops, an expensive camera, iphones, etc. inside. But not one item was ever moved and we left with all the gear we with which we arrived! We had the most incredible view from our villa... straight out over the mountain and to the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets on the deck were purely heaven! Our villa's shower was super cool. There were two separate heads, surrounded by slate and tile on two sides. One open side had a screen the size of a door that was on the front of the villa which made it open to look out onto the mountain as you were showering. AMAZING! Who ever heard of sunsets from your private shower or out on the jacuzzi tub?? The staff was amazing. Alex the chef, Marlon our head waiter, Adrienne our event planner, Gloria our masseuse, and absolutely every one else was so filled with generousity and genuine concern for us... never have I experienced such hospitality! Whether zip-lining through the jungle, ATV'ing around the mountains then stopping for a dip in the waterfall, or riding along in a pontoon boat down the river with our own personal guide exploring all the animal life, or spending 5 days in the on-site spa, there's nothing this place has missed. If you're looking for a glitzy, crowded, loud, place to be seen, this is NOT the place. We thoroughly loved our time there and wouldn't think twice to return!

Room Tip: This is a "boutique hotel" with only 6 villas (I think). If the other villas on the prope...

Spent 3 nights at Rancho Pacifico, and it is a gem. It is a hidden oasis and one must have a four wheel drive to the entrance of this resort, but every bump was well worth the experience. It was just that, an experience. Upon arrival everyone and mean every one of the 20 or so employees of this resort were friendly, and not a forced friendly. Adriana to Marlo to Alex....top notch. Went with a group of 11 friends aged from 32 to 78 and would do it again in a split second. There are various accomodations from a private "tree house" style to a three level bunglow. One must remember ...you are in the mountain ":forest", so you will be woke at 5am by Howler monkees, birds, and any other sound one would expect in this "Ritz of the Jungle". Accomodations include private pools, kitchens and views to die for. We had a wrap around balcony over looking the Whales tail on the beach and were peering over the tree tops. One must meet the owners, and of course their dog "Tito"". All breakfasts, lunches and dinners were what one would expect from finer restaurants from the staff. Their knowledge of service was quite impressive as I try to notice the small things, and they are spot on. Only resort guest can dine there. The spa is located in a cliff overlooking the trees and ocean. Very knowledgable , and a very relaxing overture. We had a 90 minute massage one day and a facial the next. The pools differ from waterfall, to infinity. Bugs are expected as you are in the mountain forest. No need to bring repellant. Bar and lounge area segwayed into the dining area, and was a nice transition. But what I liked was the owner Garrison conversing easily with all guests and making us feel welcome. Would for sure return. Thank you all at Rancho Pacifico for a visit to remember. I suggest the National Geographic tour. Its approx $125 pp. and transportation is provided.

Room Tip: All the pictures you see on TA, are spot on. You may have an occasional ant or Gecko in your room, b...

This is our first trip to Costa Rica, and unfortunetly after booking a beautiful treehouse suite we had to cancel. Rancho Pacifico went above and beyond making every effort to accomodate our schedule. Although we were unable to book a suite, I am truely humbled by thier amazing customer service. Thank you Fernando and Garrison for going the extra mile for us!

Rancho Pacifico is a breathtaking sanctuary far removed from the stresses of modern life. It is a destination that offers a phenomenal getaway designed to rejuvenate mind, body and spirit.
This amazing escape is nestled on a high mountain top surrounded by a verdant jungle with a view of the most spectacular beaches in all of Costa Rica. RP captures the luxury of a full-service resort, while delivering the seclusion, intimacy and comfort of a private residence in an authentic natural setting. The owners and staff add even more to the experience by making you feel like honored guests in their home. Delicious healthy food, inventive cocktails with excellent service, and wonderful interesting people to meet and spend time. The spa services are exceptional using all organic products from CR in a open air setting that overlooks the rainforest and ocean with exotic sounds of the jungle.
The owners have succeeded in crafting a harmoniously balanced escape. We consider our experience there a memory for a lifetime.

Ever find a Luxury Hotel and/or a 5 Star Restaurant that was so absolutely out of this world that you couldn’t wait to go back again, but when you did it was absolutely terrible? WELL THIS WON’T HAPPEN AT RANCHO PACIFICO. We put it through the “Second Time Test” and it was like we never left. The staff was their wonderful loving and incredibly helpful self, the food was even better than before, the accommodations fantastic – again and the Spa wonderfully pampering all in a Eco-Friendly Resort in the middle of a Tropical Rain Forest. This is a Win (Luxury Hotel) - Win (5 Star Restaurant) that is worth going back to again and again … we will Joan & Joe - VA

Room Tip: Every room is great
