“You can believe the reviews!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We chose TikiVillas based on the reviews on TripAdvisor, almost thinking it was too good to be true. We spent seven wonderful days there, and we can tell you it is as amazing and comfortable and beautiful as everyone else has said. I believe the commitment of the owners to the environment and the local community makes the extra magic of this beautiful hideaway.

There are five villas, and each one is spacious and private. The sleeping area has a king size bed and a side area with a desk. The bathroom has a large indoor shower attached to a private outdoor shower, which was very nice after a day in the jungle. Beside the bathroom is a large walk-in closet with a safe. The bedroom area has large doors that open onto a balcony with a breath-taking view of the pacific ocean. We slept with the doors open, and we woke up to jungle noises and sunshine every morning. We saw toucans, agouti, and various other birds from our room. We also heard the howler monkeys every morning. In addition, there is a nice kitchenette with a refrigerator, coffee maker, sink, and hot plate. The room was cleaned thoroughly every day.

At the main area of the villas is an open air eating/lounging area where we could get drinks, eat a traditional Costa Rican breakfast, or splash about in the infinity pool. Every morning we were offered delicious fresh fruits, eggs, bacon, gallo pinto, pancakes, and that tasty Costa Rican coffee. We really felt relaxed and at home.

With all these terrific elements, I have saved the best for last. The service provided by the staff at the villas was --bar none-- the best we have ever experienced. Richard served breakfast, drew maps, made reservations, and refused no request we made. Minor (hope my spelling is correct) hoisted luggage through the rain, chased off critters from the porch, and took pictures for us. We would return from a day of adventure, and both would instantly appear with water, towels, and whatever else we needed. Richard's fresh mango colada was the BEST! They made our vacation a truly memorable experience, and we consider them friends.

So go to TikiVillas! This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and it won't be our last. Pura vida!

Room Tip: All rooms are good. Villas #5 and #2 are probably the most private.

I traveled to Costa Rica this month with my 2 grown children, ages 19 and 20, and TikiVillas was a favorite landing spot for us. First, Richard and Mainor greeted us as we drove up and made our entire stay of 6 days delightful. By the time we left, we felt we had made 2 new friends. The open main area, the pool, the views, and the delicious breakfasts could not have been more inviting. Our villa (#3) had an amazing view of the forest and the Pacific, was very clean, and had a delightful outdoor shower, as well as an indoor shower. The kitchen was a nice plus, as well. We did not want air conditioning because we liked to open up the wall facing the ocean and sleep with fans on and natural night sounds--we found them comforting and actually got a bit chilly at night. However, I know that some people prefer a more American style of sleeping with closed walls, night sounds shut out, and less humidity--you can do this, as well, if it's what you prefer. But we loved the fact that we could open an entire side of the villa up, be in the middle of nature and all its sounds, enjoy some neighborly visits from the wildlife, and feel as if we were living outside. This is why we came to Costa Rica! We will definitely try to return to this get-away. It's first class, lovely, and we felt as if we were treated a bit like family (also--the banana coladas are amazing!). Thank you, Richard, Mainor, and Cindy! Notes: I highly recommend eating dinner at Exotica in Ojochal while you're here--for a memorable meal--Richard will make reservations for you. We also greatly enjoyed the popular day-long riding trail to a nearby waterfall for $60 each, which included a light breakfast and delicious lunch and lessons/help from the guides on waterfall jumping. We weren't as enthusiastic about the day-long snorkeling trip to Cano Island, simply because we're used to snorkeling in the Caribbean and found the Pacific waters a bit choppy and lacking in visibility. For the calmest swimming waters, I recommend going out to the whale's tail at Play Uvita at low tide.

Dear DelilahSparkle, thank you very much for your wonderful review and choosing to stay with us and we are so happy you enjoyed your 6 days with us. Glad you enjoyed Villa #3 and the open plan option to be part of the nature. TikiVillas was inspired by the rainforest and the magic that surrounds the land when we designed it. We wanted our guests to experience this special link we have with nature in this highly biodiverse environment and are so glad to hear it works. We are in the process of rolling out new services and facilities for our guest enjoyment including accepting credit cards on location, full first class restaurant for lunch and dinner and we hope to see you all soon again! Pura Vida! Cindy & Thomas

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights. The grounds are beautiful! The reception area as well as the rooms are amazing! Just doesn't get any better. The beds are very comfortable, the outside shower is awesome, you really feel so close to nature. We saw an anteater, headlight beetles, Toucans, and lots of lizards. I cannot say enough good things about Ricardo and Gary. They were wonderful hosts. They made us feel so comfortable and helped us figure out where to eat and what to do. All their recommendations were perfect. Thanks Guys!

Room Tip: We had a room without air conditioning and never felt like we needed it.

This was our second trip to Tiki Villas and it was just as amazing as the first time. New staff, Ricardo and Gary were so welcoming, meeting us in the parking lot and carrying our bags to the room. They seemed to know exactly what we needed and when, even bringing us umbrellas and water when arriving back from an excursion to the local waterfall in the rain. Our comfortable villa was open to the rainforest with a stunning view of the Pacific. The first afternoon we saw white-faced monkeys and toucans right outside! The deep and long infinity pool is so inviting at any time of the day, the breakfasts were tasty and I highly recommend their special drink..a banana colada. We love this place!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in late April (2 week honeymoon). I would stay here again.

Positives: The staff really is exceptional - very friendly and helpful. Definitely ask them for recommendations! We took the horseback riding tour to the Nauyaca waterfalls and went to Tortillas Flats, in Jaco for dinner (both fun). The area around the hotel (Uvita, Dominical, and the mountains around San Isidro) are beautiful.

Noteworthy: This is a smaller, secluded place so make sure you read the info about the drive to the parking lot (you need 4WD). Also, there is a long staircase from the parking lot up to the reception area (not an issue for us, but worth noting). It isn't necessarily the "right hotel for everyone" - it's definitely geared towards eco-tourism, so if you don't enjoy outdoor activities and being in a jungle type environment...

We really had a nice time and I would recommend this place to friends (couples).

**Stop at a grocery store before you get there (to Uvita). There are only 2 stores in Uvita and the BM (nicest one) is a bit pricey. You can drive on this really cool mountain road to San Isidro and there are larger stores there with lower prices (especially for toiletries, sunscreen, etc.).

Room Tip: We stayed in AP1. The view of the ocean was incredible, but we were the closest bungalow to the rece...

Dear CTGranville, Thank you for choosing TikiVillas as part of your special honeymoon vacation and so glad you enjoyed TikiVillas. And congratulations! We are so pleased you enjoyed our service and staff as well as some of the tours and local hangouts in the area. As part of our recent upgrades, besides all villas being equipped with AC we are in the final stages of putting in a new parking lot and access road which will eliminate the need for 4x4 as well as provide a gentle ramp access to the villas, clubhouse and pool. We are also very excited about the new restaurant we plan to have in place for our guest by November 2013. Wishing you all the best and look forward to welcoming you both again to TikiVillas! Pura Vida! Cindy & Thomas

What can I say about this place that so many of the reviewers haven't already? The location is wonderful (you will need a 4wd to get to the parking lot though), the rooms are incredible and Edgar went above and beyond to make our stay perfect.

My husband, daughter and I stayed here over two years ago (when children were still allowed) and now, as we finish a six-month trip through South America and Southeast Asia, it remains one of our favorite places in the world. At beach resorts and in tropical locations, we tend to compare a hotel or service with what Tiki Villas provided. An absolutely unforgettable place that doesn't (or didn't, anyway) overcharge for the experience.
