“Wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

The property, views and "feel" of this hotel are magnificent. We stayed here two nights - split our time between this hotel and the Gaia in Manuel Antonio so that is all we have to compare it to as far as other hotels in Costa Rica. The villas at Oxygen are incredible and the property is breathtaking. We rented a car, and I would suggest such for staying at this hotel - so you do not have to pay for a cab every time you want to leave to go into town. We found the Uvita area charming and much less populated than Manuel Antonio, and thus was our favorite between the two. The staff at Oxygen were wonderful (not overly attentive, but responsive and always willing to please). As the villas are glass, you do hear more noise and yes, there are bugs (however, this is expected - you are in a rainforest!) but that did not detract from our experience at all. It was wonderful to hear all the bugs, frogs and monkeys at night and in the morning. In the morning, having a coffee outside on the patio of our villa was unbelievable. We ate dinner here once, and the food was good - but, since we enjoy eating at local, traditional food establishments in foreign countries, we ate at many of the local soda restaurants around the area instead. We ate at an amazing bakery just on your way up to the hotel and I would recommend anyone stop there at some point during their stay. Thanks to Oxygen for making our experience in Uvita simply amazing. I would hands down suggest this hotel to anyone looking for tranquility, romance and relaxation.

We love the great reviews. Oxygen is definitely a tranquil hotel that will leave you totally relaxed. Being near the very small town of Uvita, you may also take in the local vibe, which is much less hectic than you will find in other resort areas. These factors make our resort a step off the beaten path and well worth traveling to. We hope to see YOU soon!

“A little overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

It would be easy to be bowled over by the amazing view from reception and the infinity pool, as well as get caught up in the soft buddist atmosphere. I didn't find that the experience lived up to the hype. It IS a romantic setting...and when you are in love...the setting will enhance that. I would say for those of us looking for great service, and not just service with a smile, attention to details and cleanliness...for the expense...this place is not worth it. I found my sheets dirty and knew better than to get the staff of 3 to try to come change it for me at 9PM, while they were still serving dinner. I found the dinner good but having dietary restrictions it was challenging to eat "dinner surprise." The chef was wondeful and personable so I feel with better planning you COULD customize your meals for your limitations. I was hoping the M&M's from the mini-bar would be a good after dinner snack but they were ruined by humidity. I personally feel that attention to detail is critcal when you are asking high-end prices for rooms. I think they need more staff to keep the quality of the rooms, cleanliness and details in order. Some of the dangerous pathways were unlit, there was no bag service and finding the place was brutal, I will add however, that the bedding and towels had a wonderful scent. There are many other places in Costa Rica that will offer more than a good cocktail and a charming atmosphere. My fiance says I am being a little harsh, as he insists I am spoiled. He would give the place an 8 for being in the southern zone of Costa Rica...and I gave it a 6...so...let's call it a 7. :-)

Room Tip: Ask for a view from your room!

“Muchas Gracias!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

We had an unbelieveable experience at Oxygen Jungle Villas and would return anytime for another relaxing vacationes!! It was our first time visiting Costa Rica and we rented a 4x4 (a must for this property) in San Jose which is a 4 hr drive away. It was a difficult drive getting out of the city but then it was easy to find Uvita. The sun was setting by the time we arrived and although we did ask for directions to find Camino de Suenos, we did find the hotel. It is funny how directions in the States (where we are from) are different than in Costa Rica (imagine that) so at first that may have been a little frustrating, but once we made it to the resort, it was too beautiful to worry about a thing. :) We were greeted by Howard on our first evening and we had to apologize for being grouchy from being hungry and having a long travel day. He was so calm and pleasant and made us a cocktail, helped us bring our bags to our villa, and even arranged for a pizza to be delivered because we did not make arrangements to have dinner at the hotel that evening. Thank you Howard for being so helpful!! Actually, the entire staff was very helpful and pleasant at all times. Gabriel, the Manager, was cheerful and interesting and usually nearby if you needed something (loved his dog too)...and Marco came in on our final few nights and was just as wonderful as Gabriel and Howard! The property is pristine and the villas are ridiculous!!! Imagine waking up at 5:30am every morning because the room is enclosed in glass and you do not want to shut the curtains because you might miss some animals...and tucans are flying right in front of your villa! Hummingbirds are flying around, parrots, you can hear the howler monkeys calling...birds of so many colors and sizes are flying and chatting about the day! I really felt like a bird watcher and it was never an interest for me. The Pacific is in the distance and you can see the edge of the Whale Tail Beach too...just so wonderful! The drive is a hike, we can grant you that, but it's sooooo worth it!! It's secluded and remote and quite and you really get to relax. They have free wi-fi if you must stay connected because there are no televisions or phones in your villa but it is pure relaxation with nature. Walking the grounds and down to their waterfall area...that is a nice adventure too! Uvita is close enough to some of the busier towns like Dominical (about a 10-15 minute drive) but far enough away from all the busy stuff that you really feel like a local! The staff at Oxygen really helped make this trip so memorable. Playa Ventanas which is just a short drive away was also a hotel reco and we are so excited to say that we went (at low tide). It was like having a private beach all to ourselves. And visiting Manuel Antonio Parque was a real treat too because we saw squirrel monkeys, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, deer, 2 and 3 toed sloths, halloween crabs, and so much more! Muchas gracias Oxygen Jungle Villas y Gabriel, Howard y Marco!!! We hope to return some time!! Cheers!!

“Beautiful and Magical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This place is hands down one of the best we've ever stayed in. The location is absolutely gorgeous, very secluded and private. The villas are cozy, beautiful, and very romantic. The staff is special, they really add to the overall experience. They're friendly and helpful. Very likable people. We enjoyed the surprise dinners every single time. You can tell they love what they do and it shows in what the put on your table and the way they present it. On top of that, the cook is an outstanding and appealing character. We loved everything about this place, especially the concept and honest philosophy around the whole experience: The absolute care for the environment, the spirituality infused in everything that sits in the property and everything they offer their guests. We fell in love with this place. We totally recommend it, without a doubt.

“A nice place, just a little overrated -”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed here in 2011 after reading many great reviews. Our experience was a little different, not bad just not at the level we were expecting. While the Villa units themselves are nice, they lack in functionality and privacy. An all glass enclosure sounds great, not so much if everytime you want to use the shower, bathroom or walk around without full clothing you have to struggle with the multitude of blinds and screens. The reason being is that these units are all right next to each other with frequent traffic of people walking back and forth to their rooms. I felt this to be rather annoying, all of these units are semi-private. The pool is great, although I about burned the skin off the bottom of foot on the pool decking which was in bad shape and painted black. Just like a hot pad, ouch. Anyways we had great service and the one dinner we had in was very good. We had a couple lights out in our unit that were never repaired, even after multiple requests. I can see how people like this spot but to us, it just felt a little disconnected from Costa Rica in general. Up a gnarly dirt road which I usually find pretty fun, communting up and down got old in a hurry. The "ocean" view rooms do have views but you are so far from the ocean, the clouds seem closer and from our room (next to the pool) the available views are mostly of bushes. . The walk down to the river from the villas is very nice. A side note, the soda on the left hand side as you head up the dirt road is pretty good and cheap if you want a more authentic and inexpensive meal. All and all I would not tell people not to go here, but it just wasn't for us.
