“It doesn't get any better than this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

If you think the views are beautiful...wait until you meet the staff. Their hospitality truly comes from their hearts and souls! Marco, Jason, Gabrielle, Lupe, each were so attentive, caring, genuine! They made our stay unforgettable! Don't get me wrong, the villas, the infinity pool and the views are all spectacular but their staff brings Oxygen to life! When our vacation ended, we were refreshed, re-energized and ready to conquer the world again! Thank you Oxygen for an unforgettable vacation!! We WILL be back!! Lesa & Alberto Tollinchi

We spent part of our honeymoon at Oxygen Jungle Villas and it was incredibly memorable. We stayed in Villa #3 and it was perfect. Villa #3 was slightly isolated from the others and had an incredible view. Being from the city, we typically enjoy visiting places with night life, shopping and dining options, but found this rainforest hideaway to be relaxing. Be prepared to turn the lights out at 9pm and call it an early night - not much to when it gets dark out, but perfect for vacation. Our favorite thing about the property was their food. When we first arrived we mentioned the foods that we do not care for/allergic to and they were taken into account for each meal. We had breakfast and surprise dinner every night and cannot say enough about dinner! "Absolutely, positively amazing" to quote my husband. The food ranged from shrimp to scallops to steak. We also signed up for the couple's massage which was so relaxing because it was indoors during a rainstorm, so you could hear the rain against the roof. The massage itself was average, but definitely relaxing. One day, we tried to hike to the waterfall, but it was probably more for intermediate hikers. We were a little apprehensive to go there as it seemed further than described in reviews. The hotel helped book our off road four wheel tour and our whale watching tour. The off road tour was gorgeous and well worth the money. The whale watching tour was just ok - a little disorganized - no whales, but dolphins. As you drive along the highway, be sure to try the Ceviche on the side of the road - Delish! We can't stop dreaming about it. Also for lunch, try tilapia and veggies at the soda on the left just as you turn off the main road to head up to Oxygen. Thank you for an amazing honeymoon.

Wow, we rolled up just at dusk from a 5 hour cab ride from the airport. It was drizzling, the subdued dining room lights were on, Morchiba was playing on the sound system, a Hindu deity by a forever pool greets us, as well as Marco with some delicious tropical drink. The next 3 days where a dream. The private bungalow was beautiful, private and unique. The food is great as well as the service. Don't miss the waterfall on the property or a dip in the forever pool.

We are so happy that we were able to assist in making your honeymoon special. The privacy and seclusion are two of the many factors that draw couples to Oxygen. We are constantly searching for new ways to elevate the relaxing atmosphere of our hotel, including selecting soothing music poolside as to facillitate your enjoyment of the natural beauty that is Oxygen. We hope to receive you as guests once again in the near future!

This is a great venue for couples looking for an intimate secluded property in Costa Rica. The staff and meals were high points for us. We thouroughly enjoyed our visit. We tried dining at a few of the other places down the hill...really nothing compared to our meals up in the villas. It's a magic experience that we'll never forget.
A few other observations:
-bugs were not an issue. we didn't use any of the sprays that we hauled out there
-the beach down the hill (whale shaped beach) was totally cool. we started our day there every morning
-wifi worked great
-local staff that really help you connect with Costa Rica
-wildlife areas are close by - on our last day we watched Toucans frolick above our villa

We at Oxygen strive for the highest quality in all of our services. We are fortunate that our location affords our guests a jungle experience without the annoyance of mosquitos and other biting insects. The constant breeze either from the mountains or the ocean keeps the hot tropical tempereatures at bay. The wildlife and the many bird species also find this area to their liking, hence the abundant sightings of both at Oxygen. The close proximity of National Parks and secluded beaches are also pluses for our guests.

This hotel is a perfect spot for a couple looking for a romantic getaway. The rooms were fantastic, the view was breathtaking and the service and food are as good as I have had in any hotel. We were there for 3 nights and in that time we were able to go out on day trips looking at dolphins, sea caves and lots of snorkeling. Then in the evening we would come back for a dip in the pool and enjoy a delicious dinner. I look forward to coming back in the future, hopefully on a wedding anniversary.

My wife and I just got back from a 4 night stay at Oxygen Villas.

Owner (Haab-hope the spelling is correct)- Greeted us as soon as we arrived. Was there in the clubhouse throughout the entire stay. He was always friendly and willing to answer any of our questions or just have a nice conversation.

Manager (Alberto) - Was always around, visible, friendly and even served the dinner on our last night. He was also very helpful when asked questions and also had some nice conversations with him. You have to get Alberto to make you a pina colada. They are the best and he even shared the recipe.

Chef (Doug) - Amazing food. Some people have complained about the "Sur[rise Dinners". Doug's food was awesome. He was nice enough to share some cooking tips with us as well. Once night due to a problem in town we ended up eating dinner at Oxygen that we had not planned to eat. We ended up being the only couple that night eating and Doug even asked us what we may be in the mood for. We informed him we liked trying new things and he made us a killer tuna steak with a wasbi-honey mustard-ish glaze that was great...and once again shared the recipe. the very last night we were there Lupe (sp?) was the chef and she served up a great Typical Costa Rican dinner.

Jason&Marco - The Front Desk/Wait staff/Bell Boys/Bartenders. Both of theses guys made sure you were taken care of the whole time. They were great and being there if you needed something or staying out of your way if you needed that too.

Marcella and Monica (I believe was the name) were the Spa Ladies that gave my wife and I are treatments. Both of them were very professional and worked wonders on our sore muscles.

We were surprised to find that a number of the staff had been there no more than four months. They all seemed to know what they are doing and are doing it extremely well.

Club house and grounds-The scenery at Oxygen is breathtaking. We knew by reading a lot of the reviews before hand that the resort is not "exciting". We never got the impression that it was their intent to be. Right from the first time we saw the website we knew that this place was all about tranquility and serenity. Boy did they deliver. Everything was set up to make you feel relaxed and peaceful and that it exactly what we needed.

Villa - We found the villas to be very romantic. Yes you need to throw the TP in the basket, yes you may get a bug or two in your room. Yes you can hear all sorts of sounds and may even me taking a shower and see the silhouette of a gecko lizard on the other side of the outside blueglass wall. But your in the jungle that is all part of the experience. The room was perfect for a romantic getaway.

The views- the views from the villas and the clubhouse are amazing. We got to watch some incredible lighting storms over the ocean at night as well as wake up to beautiful views of the ocean. I know Oxygen doesn't control the weather but they have set up their in the best way to view the weather.

The Road Up--- The road is bumpy and you do need a 4x4 (we had the suzuki jimny). We found their directions to be spot on. We found that we forgot the bumpiness as soon as you got on the grounds of the resort.

Over all My wife and I would recommend Oxygen Villas to anyone looking for a romantic, peaceful, rejuvenating experience. We are looking at going back some time.

Thank you to everyone at the Oxygen Villa for helping to make our tenth anniversary vacation vacation amazing!!!!

What kind words and greatly appreciated! You guys ( as well as all our guests) were great fun ! We are a small team up here on the mountain and enjoy sharing our day to day with everyone that doesn't get to see this day in and out.

Next time in Maryland - we hope you can show us the horses of Assateague Island. It would be a real treat! Maybe even some blue crabs :)

Though we don't have a 4th of July here - it was an amazing display of lightening we got to view and comparable to a fireworks show over the ocean and glad you were here to see it with us.

The entire team here at Oxygen thanks you and we look forward to your return visit.

Please read review carefully… Oxygen Jungles villas are even more breath taking than in the photos. It is like entering another world…. That being said you need to take into account a few things.. you are in the jungle.. there are LARGE BUGs.. our villa was very clean however we always had ants. The glass villas are not sound proof.. you can hear the sounds of the jungle.. the frogs sounds are crazy, and when it rains in the night it is an experience. Also being in the jungle when they loose power (which happen 2 times in our 5 day stay) it takes some time to go back on. The journey up is quite an experience.. we followed the directions and were fine.. our second night coming home the rain was so bad we missed the turn and it got real scary quick .. take your directions with you.. drive slow if it is raining up the road (I am thankful I was not driving). We would not have made it without 4 wheel drive. It takes 20 mins to get into to town.. and there is really not much to do there.
We ate breakfast the food was good. .. we did the surprise dinner as well. We had told them 4 times.. I do not eat fish.. We even told them again I do not eat fish as soon as we sat down to eat.. they said no problem.. and they brought me fish.. I sent it back the chef made me a pork dish.. the food was good… however it took a long time.. my husbands food was cold because he waited for my dish to come out... you can tell the staff is still learning
The owner of the hotel is a wonderful man… he has a vision for the hotel.. and he is actively changing things.. and for this reason I am giving the hotel a high rating. The concept is here, the execution is still lacking.. I believe we were here while they were experiencing growing pains. The staff.. ½ were amazing.. great recommendations, attentiveness and kindness… the other ½ left a little to be desired.. they were very sweet but not 100% with it.. like the dinner where I was served fish…. Or the activities we thought we had booked that the front desk never booked.. thankfully the other members of the oxygen team caught it when I asked for directions.. and they called the tour to confirm to find out we had no reservation.
If you are looking for peace, tranquility and you are a zen kinda person.. by all means this is a MUST do for you.. this is retreat for the soul and mind.. not your typical vacation..if you are more high octane.. needs to go go go and needs simulation this is not the place for you.. (it was not the place for my husband). I am thankful for my time at Oxygen, however I wish I would have come under different circumstances.. it was not for me and my husband… there was not enough to do for him.. and after 2 days he was a bit stir crazy. I will return to Oxygen.. this time with my mom or friends for a girls relaxation retreat!

Thank you for your kind words and honesty in your review of us. We take all feedback left very seriously and address it as soon as we review it. We would like to say sorry about the communication breakdown about the food to begin with. Our new Chef of 2 months comes to us from a 5 star resort and has a great passion to detail and customer service. Something clearly went wrong as if he'd known you did not eat fish, you would not have been served it. Be it food allergens or something as simple as not liking something, he will do whatever it takes to make our guests happy.
I do know that your husband was asked if he wanted a new dinner to come out with yours and was declined and told it would be fine. He is very kind and professional in that manor and was upset that this even happened in the first place.

We have been creating new policies such as pre check in forms with specifics such as details about food just so our Chef is well aware in advance of any modifications that need to be made, along with many other things that will help us better serve the guests before they even get here.

We are in the jungle indeed and the sounds of nature are truly present - especially at night, It's like the jungle sings it's own song. Very unique for a first night experience. Yes, we have bugs, we do our best to obviously keep them out of our villas, and do a pretty good job at it considering what we are surrounded by. We have looked in the villa you were in and didn't find any trace of ants after you left, not saying you didn't have them. They are amazing at sniffing out the smallest morsel of anything edible. Even our amazing leaf cutter ants, we are always trying to re route their path so they don't get stepped on and they don't interfere with the guests comfort.

You are absolutely correct about the jungle not being for everyone. Our little town of Uvita has some modern stores where you can find most anything, a few restaurants we suggest if you want to venture out, but certainly not a lively meca for action. Most that come to Uvita, and Oxygen in general, really appreciate that. We have tons of tour operators we work with and that is where the activities and things to do come into play. Offering everything from Scuba, Canopy Tours, Waterfalls, Surf Lessons, Hiking, 4 Wheeling, Deep Sea Fishing, Kayaking and so much more.

I wish there was more we could have done to make your husbands stay more comfortable.

We do our best and with our guests feedback, we can only continue to improve. We hope that on your next visit to Oxygen you come with some of your girlfriends or your mom as you had mentioned and you can see our growth and daily improvements to our property.

Best to you both,
Team Oxygen
