“Hellen Rocks and so does Las Terrazas!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2011

We have been traveling to Costa Rica for 10 years as a family and a few years solo prior. We have a house not to far from Las Terrazas but needed to find a place to stay after we rented it long term. I am not sure where to start but I can make this really short and just say "in all the years we have been traveling to Costa Rica this might have been our best trip, best stay, best host ever" and we have stayed our our house a few times....go figure! We were here with another family who also had two kids. It felt like home away from home. Hellen and her staff is amazing. We will definitely be staying here again if we can't stay at our place. Hellen, You rock! Your smile is contagious and you are full of energy! Thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant! Keep up the good work and we hope to see you again!

At the end of our three-week trip we found this beautiful bungalow on a side of a small mountain surrounded by an inspiring wilderness and just 10 minutes away from the beach! The day started with the toucans saying good morning from the trees right in front of our terrace and at night they showed us their beauty in the light of our flash light. Right outside our suite we had pure jungle life- with a lot of birds, frogs, Franceska (the dog) and her best friend the grey Panther.
But this location was not just nice because of the accommodation itself but because of our private guide Hellen who drew us handheld a map with the best locals spots to experience (to hike, see waterfalls, the "top secret" beach where we were alone and where we could find the best restaurants - just known by locals).
For sure our last 5 days wouldn´t have been so nice without having Hellen and Greg, our great hosts. (We really didn´t want to leave...)
Thanks a lot for this unforgettable time at Las Terrazas.
Las Ballenas is a great place to experience.

The attention to Detail, Allure , Comfort that is exhibited at Terrazas is impeccable. Hellen, the property manger was responsive to all our needs, always seeking an opportunity to improve our experience. She repeatedly sought to build a strong relationship with us and definitely created a unique ,memorable vacation. Starting with the home delivery of a Seafood Rice from a local restaurant upon minutes of our 5 hours airport drive. It was so appreciated

The bungalow we stayed in had an uncompromisable level of cleanliness, it was a safe and accident free environment while providing a fair amount of privacy.

Our kitchen was fully stocked, including a basket of fresh fresh! We had all the essentials items for cooking The outdoor deck that our bungalow was attached to was the perfect way to drink in the views of the Pacific Ocean as well as cook some breakfast before our daily ventured from beach to beach.
We do recommend a car with 4 wheel drive. We also loved the spacious, clean pool with a romantic view and plenty of lounge chairs and tables to have an afternoon snack.

It is a true escape to be in Terrazas de Ballena. This is a place where genuine care and comfort are placed as their highest priority. Starting with Hellen's personal attention right down to the warm, relaxed yet refined ambiance.

We started our visit during a downpour and were welcomed warmly by Hellen and staff. The bungalows are clean and spacious with wonderful patios overlooking the jungle. We were frequently greeted by toucans and heard the congo monkeys in the distance. The hotel is secure. There is a night watchman. We felt comforatable leaving valuables in the rooms and the car parked on the grounds. The Toucan Bungalow has a kitchen facing the jungle which is very private. The road is a definite 4 x 4 during the rainy season and it is advisable to call ahead for directions as there are few signs. A vehicle is required to reach the beach.
We paid the high season price and were told upon arrival that breakfast was an additional $30. The website states that a continental breakfast is included in the price. I don't know why there was a discrepency in this matter. We enjoyed making our own breakfast and lunch in the kitchen.
Thank you Hellen for the recommendations on the area's acitivites.

My wife and I stayed in the Mariposa Suite at Las Terrazas de Ballena while on our honeymoon in Costa Rica and would most highly recommend this resort to other couples or families who plan to visit the central or southern Pacific coast of the country. We found our bungalow and the surrounding grounds to be exquisitely beautiful and relaxing. Our room was very comfortable with a powerful remote-controlled air-conditioning system and Direct TV. The fully furnished terrace, which includes a kitchenette that is fully stocked with utensils, provided an ideal place to sit and drink coffee in the morning or have a beer at night while enjoying the sites and sounds of the surrounding forest and watching for Toucans and other animals on the grounds. The view from the terrace includes the beautiful pool and extends clear out to the Pacific Ocean. The manager and staff of Las Terrazas were especially friendly and helpful, particularly with regard to directions to nearby attractions and restaurants, and ideas for site seeing. They did everything possible to make our stay as pleasant as could be. The service was excellent in all regards.
The location of Las Terrazas is just a very short distance from downtown Uvita, which contains stores that sell most things that a visitor from the U.S. would need, as well as a hairdresser shop and an agency that books various tours. I especially appreciated the proximity of Las Terrazas to several gorgeous Pacific beaches and excellent restaurants.

We heard about Las Terrazas through a friend. We were looking for a relaxing spot to use as a base for our travels, off the beaten path. Las Terrazas is in an absolutely beautiful setting, set up in the jungle overlooking the Whale's Tail marine park and a gorgeous pool with a soothing waterfall. Our unit offered us plenty of room for my husband and I and our two kids, ages 6 and 12. We stayed a total of 10 days on and off (we did a 5 day excursion further south in the middle of our stay). The boutique hotel is close to many attractions: horseback rides, zip-line tours, national parks, etc... The management is very attentive to guests needs and can arrange almost any activity. Very accessible from San Jose, a 2 3/4- 3 1/2 hour drive depending on which road is taken. We would consider staying at this hotel again in the future.

We are very frequent visitors to the Uvita area and this was our first stay at Terrazas. Since we knew how convenient it was and had seen it from the outside we felt confident that we would enjoy the property. We were very happy with the accomodations from the meticulously cared for room, to the well manicured grounds, we felt very comfortable and relaxed the entire time. We especially appreciated the small kitchenette as we like to make our own breakfast and relax during happy hour with our own cervezas!

Helen, the manager, welcomed us with open arms and added knowledge of the area so we could explore some new restaurants and activities. Her customized map of the area is like nothing we have ever gotten from any other hotel in the area and it was a great reference to find some hidden treasures we would not have found otherwise. A truly personalized touch.
