“Stinkporna”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

Guys, you are living in amazing place so why dont u care about the rubbish on your streets? About smells near fishmarket? Yes,i know it should face for tourists and back for local people. But this back is an @ss. The rubbish from Smellporna sooner or later comes to Sipadan and we had already cleaned some corals.
Cant say all is very cheap here. No. They found out they csn earn on tourists and started increasing prices.
Tip-4 hours runaway from Semporna is rivercruise to see probiscus. These are monkeys with long tails anf big nose
Tip-there are lots of cats-very thin snd hungry. Please try to give them some food as we did.

“Semporna, water village”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

Semporna is a small town... popular for crystals, pearls and seafood... Most of the people work as fishermen... the seafoods are very cheap and fresh...behind the semporna market is the jetty to the nearby islands such as "Baring Island" and "Bum Bum Island"..... The boat fare is RM 3 per person, and RM 15 if you hire one whole boat... Majority of ethnic living there is the Bajau Laut... these people build their houses along the seaside, some even live in the boat... as for that the sea water is not suitable for snorkeling or swimming... you can even see garbage floating on the water... However if you wish to go for a swim or snorkeling, then you can go to Mabul or Kapalai Island which offers great snorkelling... The rooms in both these islands are affordable too...

“Sabah and its islands are terrorist targets!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

I visited Pom Pom Island off the coast of Sabah in October 2013. The island is fantastic for diving and watching marine life. However, I do not recommend you to go there. 2 weeks after our stay, a couple staying at the Pom Pom Island Resort was attacked by Philippine terrorists. The husband was shot at the resort while his wife was kidnapped. She is still not found. The security situation in this area has been critical for several years and the Malaysian authorities do not have control of these areas. If you are looking for great diving, I would choose Indonesia.

“semporna sabah”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

semporna town is great but you must willing to bear the rubbish there. We were there not for diving but just to visit the Bajau Laut villages. Fascinated with their simple and happy life at the seas. The best time to visit there will be around March until July.

“Sabah is great”

Try the Kinabatangan river and the Danum rainforest lodge. They are astonishing. Great nature and friendly people.
