“Small place but lovely view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

I had visited this property in Oct/ Nov 2008 with family and it wasn't an unpleasant experience so when we planned a last minute trip over a long weekend this April (18th - 21st) with friends we decided to not get too experimental and ventured back to Gautam and we sure were not disappointed.

Rooms: We opted for the Superior rooms (they face the garden and also the dining area/ parking lot) - so make sure you specify you want the ones facing the garden, though it also means that since the doors open straight into the room, you can't afford to leave the door ajar (and if you do it is at an absolute loss of your privacy). We had opted for the same rooms even in 2008 but they have redone the rooms and these are aesthetically done up better than before. Fixtures and fittings and faucets in the room & bathroom are new and very good though the bathroom lacks a dry and wet area but it didn't bother us much. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and housekeeping service was prompt. One of our friends had opted for the Pool facing rooms for 1 night and they switched to Superior Rooms the next day as the AirCon in their pool facing room was extremely noisy. Also hot water supply hours are limited in the pool facing rooms but in the superior rooms we had no such concerns. The Superior rooms on the first floor are bigger than the ones on the ground floor so perhaps if you are 3 in a room, you would prefer the first floor rooms (no lift though). However the sit-outs are nicer if you are on the ground floor.

Food: Apparently, Gautam is known for its Gujarati Thali but we had not opted for the food package as we had cars and were gonna be out and about so didn't want to be bound to the Hotel for meals. But in 2008, we had opted for meals and I recall not being overly impressed or disappointed with the same. They do not have a la carte meals so either you opt for their package or you eat out and the only thing we were told we would get in Room Service was Tea/ Coffee/ Toast Butter, which we called for every morning as also 1 night and it was perfectly prompt and suited our palettes.

Property: It's not a very big resort in terms of size but it's really nice and cosy without being crammed (even though it was full on 2 out of the 3 nights we were there). Beautiful flowers, trees, landscaping, swing-sets & slides in the children's play area in the garden and the best part is that the property overlooks the valley!!! So you can just sit in the garden or even in the sit-outs (outside your ground floor rooms) and enjoy the weather, the cool fresh breeze and the green hills. Despite it being summer time, as long as you sit in the shade the temperature is very pleasant.

Room Tip: Garden facing superior rooms (# 118, 119, 120 is what we had taken). If you wana spend the money ta...

I had visited this place few years back, so things may have changed by now. It was overall a decent experiene. Hotel is good, rooms were good, service was pretty prompt and the package included all meals, which were again good. It has a nice big garden and good view of the mountains The few issues that i faced
1. No online booking at that time and I had to go to new Camp area in Pune to book the room
2. the parking at the hotel is limited, so if the hotel is full, it could be a challenge
3. the dinner is served only at 8.30 pm, so if you return from a day full of sight seeing, this could be an additional delay on hungry stomach
4. it is almost on one end of the city (towards left as you enter Mahabaleshwar), so you need to drive a bit to get to any other place

Room Tip: Rooms with Swimming pool view can be avoided as they are on one side and have the pools view from ba...

This was one of our many impromptu holidays. Choice of hotel was simple - any hotel with a great view. Having stayed at the Evershine Keys Hotel last time which didn't offer any view, we decided on Hotel Gautam. We didn't regret the choice for the view was just amazing. We checked-in on a Friday and the place was surprisingly well occupied and looked cheerful. Rooms in the newly renovated wing (garden facing rooms) are chic and well appointed. However, the bed in our room was very disappointing. It was so hard that I am prompted to rank the lowest on 'sleep quality'. Service is good and staff is friendly. Warning!! This is a PURE VEG hotel. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel during our stay. Dinner was alright and the breakfast was a simple affair for a what they had charged us on food. The hotel has a pool but can be maintained much better. The garden area is maintained well minus the plastic furniture which is a show-spoiler. There is no in room dining facility and no a-la-cart menu. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

As a kid, going to Mahabaleshwar twice a year was a given, and staying at Hotel Gautam, mandatory. Having grown up here, I can vouch for the excellence this hotel provides - courteous staff, cosy rooms, picturesque view and not to forget, the delicious VEG only food that makes a hardcore non vegetarian like me also forget my meat. After the recent renovation, I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone that visits Mahabaleshwar. It's especially a great place for families and couples.

Room Tip: As you enter the hotel, the rooms on your left are the BEST!

This was one of the few good hotels that I visited. The rooms were good, warm and cosy for this time of the season although I was charged Rs 750.00 extra for a room with heating facility. The food was excellent and the staff was very courteous. Overall I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

I book this resort 2 times. Very nice resort. Valley view from garden is excellent. Garden area is also very big. Some indoor games i.e. carom, table tennis also available. Rooms are clear. Service is good and food is excellent. Only thing is they serve only veg food so I recommend this to all veggis. Swimming pool also available.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice. I stayed in pool site rooms but I think garden site are also very nice.
