This is a Lodging and boarding type place on the expensive side for the comforts you get. It is primarily for folks looking to eat Gujarati food at least twice a day everyday of their stay. So naturally, most of the residents are Gujaratis or from Mumbai. Also, the pricing is such that lodging alone is less optimal than food and lodging. Hotel is unique in that, you get hot water only till about 9am in the morning and the check-in and checkout time are around 8.00 - 8.30am, primarily to suit bus-travellers from Mumbai. We dont know if that is the norm in Mahabaleshwar.
It is well located for taxi rides and is next to a very nice park. It has a sports room for children to play table-tennis or carroms. Kids have a nice play area but need to be supervised. On average, the staff are quite responsive except at lunch when it is terribly crowded.
The quality of Gujarati food served was an algebraic variable. Some days it was very good and some days some items were average and oily. They do have south-indian snacks at breakfast.
We found the hotel a bit expensive. I mean, if we compare it with a similarly priced one in Goa this one in Mahabaleshwar was definitly not in the same league, nor as well maintained. At Rs 7000/$120 a day (including food) one has high expectations which it did not match up to at all. But there are not too many alternatives in Mahabaleshwar unless you have a car of your own or have a genuine reference.
Pick a room close to the pool and upstairs.
