“Great little place at an inexpensive alternative .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

This hotel consists of 2 room bungalows located on Jambiani Beach. The staff was quite courteous to any questions or concerns. The hotel grounds have a great pool area ,a restaurant that serves three meals a day with beverages served same vicinity. The huts on the beach have books you can read with hammocks as well. The rooms were clean with shower in bathroom there isn't anything yet a screen for the windows so you might bring valuables to be held at front desk yet haven't heard of anyone getting things stolen. The hotel turns off electricity from 11:00 HR until 19:00 HR.The hotel is located 4KM from Paje/ Paje Beach where the nearest stores/stands are as well as a post office .There's no lighting on the roads in this area at night so it's not advisable to walk not that it isn't safe.Taking a hired taxi is about $25.00 USD there is a morning bus to Stonetown that costs $10.00 USD.I would stay here again if I went back to Zanzibar without a doubt.Note: The high tide comes in late morning that is about the only time to go swimming into Jambiani Beach as it looks like a muddy marsh the other times of the day, same with Paje Beach. The ocean water is 77*F/25*C.

“nice location...good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We visited mbuyuni in june for 4 days as part of our honeymoon. The accomodation is clean and offers good value for money being right on the beach. The staff are friendly and the food is also good value. There is a different menu everyday for lunch and dinner, very nice calamari and octopus..we also liked the swings to relax on the beach.
All in all we would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a cheap but nice alternative.

“not so good/not so bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

We stayed here for a few days and even that we knew that this wasn't a 3 star accomodation we expected a litte bit more. At first our room wasn't properly cleaned. When we arrived the stuff from the former guests like water and wrapping papers where still on the floor and after 15 minutes it was possible for us to go in our room well I do not know how people clean there house but when I clean my bathroom it will take more than 15 minutes so a bungalow will take at least more than one hour for properly cleaning. There is a lack of maintenance on the whole estate which I found a real pitty because it has a lot of possibilities if you do it correctly and I surely think that they can make a lot more money if they will do some more maintenance for the whole estate. Even plant some more flower plants to give it a more romantic feeling. During our stay there was no light on whole zanzibar which gave it a certaine feeling because I always travel with candles it was no problem for us but I can imagine that some people can feel a bit unsafe. There is no possibility to swim on the beach. If you walk a little bit north you will find a good beach to swim. The swimming pool is nice but not so big. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpfull. I really hope that the owner will do some more maintenance and make Mbuyuni a better place to stay.

“I'd return in a heartbeat!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We enjoyed a family stay here in early September, 2012 and loved it. The rooms were clean and appealing, the food was great, nice salt-water pool, gorgeous sunrises and the staff was friendly and eager to help. We rented bicycles for a trip in to Jambiani and that was and adventure in itself. We enjoyed playing in the surf but do take flipflops or water shoes because the bottom is rocky in places.

Room Tip: We had the room right at the end near the beach - it was great to go to sleep and wake up to the sou...

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

This is a long overdue review, as we spent several days there back in October 2011... We really loved this place and would definitely recommend it to others. We ended up staying there having seen some of the other establishments in the area.
From what we saw, Mbuyuni seemed to offer the best value for money so we went for it and we didn’t regret. It has an absolute beachfront location, with beautiful white sandy beach, a couple of beach chairs to chill out on, and even a swing! There’s alsa o pool table and a swimming pool. The only downside, if anything, was that it’s about 20 minutes walk from the main village (Jambiani) but that didn’t bother us at all. The rooms were clean and spacious, and not expensive for Zanzibar (at $40 per room including breakfast). The staff were great, very helpful and friendly. The food was typical local-tourist mix and was OK, only sometimes you needed to wait a bit for you order to arrive. But again, that’s not a problem – remember, you’re on holiday in such a beautiful part of the world so ‘pole, pole’ as the locals say, and enjoy your stay!
