“wonderfull place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

We were in Blue Oyster for the second time. It was perfect for a quiet stay after our safari on the mainland.
At our first visit five years ago, we only went to Zanzibar and we found it a lovely place to spend our beach holiday together with some smaller activities like the spice tour or dhowtrip.
The excellent management and staff is organising nice activities such as the annual dhowrace or candlelight dinners.
At low tide, there is always interesting local life on the beach and at high tide the swimming is good. We'll return!

We went there for dinner once, as my parents stayed at this place a few months earlier and were really satisfied. The food was really good - especially the cheese steak when you have not had decent beef in Tansania for months ... The buildings itself look all nice, well maintained and clean.

After our safari we stayed 4 day's in this hotel. We had a great room with a vieuw to the sea and the white sand!I The room was nice, the bathroom a little small and a little bit old. We where just relaxing on the beach, reading, some drinking, just enyoing and whatching the local people! The breakfest and dinner and the food at the beach-bar was very good, the personal was friendly! If you want you can go snorkling with Captain Zapy and his boat! We had a very good stay in this small family hotel

This Hotel is just great. We stayed here 7 nights and everything was perfect. Our room was decorated very nicely, cleaned up every day and with a great view to the sea. The offered food for diner was a mix between local food and international cuisine and the breakfast was a buffet with a mix of eggs, sweets, pancake, fruits, bread, toast, etc. The Service was outstanding and in case we had something there was always somebody to help/support. You can organize snorkeling and other trips via the Hotel or just enjoy the beach. This was a paradise after our Safari!!

I'm glad I did not read the reviews as we found this place to be idyllic. We found it by chance and spent two days just relaxing by the beach, eating at the cafe and drinking lovely cold drinks. We went snorkelling on the little hand made sail boat...very quaint. Our rooms were nice and clean..lots of hot water and I've never had flowers on my bed before..so pretty. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. The views were fab and the deck chairs and hammock are great for lying on. Just a lovely way to end our holiday.

Room Tip: All quiet rooms with sea views.

The hotel is located on the fantastic white sand Jambiani Beach, but the location is a tad aggressive, too close to the water, which means there is no beach left at high tide. The rooms are clean and spacious but without aircon. The best part about the rooms are the wonderful balconies with great views of the sea.

The service is a mixed experience as some members of staff could seem arrogant or reluctant to work while others were perfectly okay. The hotel has its own tour company, but we experienced that some of the drivers barely knew English or just had no experience in how to behave with travellers.

This hotel was recommended to us by a family friend and we expected a nice place with good food, but we were really disappointed! Rooms are without air-conditioning or good working fan, there is just some cheap old fan, which doesn’t work very well. My parents had the more expensive room, which was quiet ok, but the cheaper room (which is for 90 Euro still very expensive!) was nothing special. It was extremely hot there, no fresh air and in the middle of our stay get something wrong in the bathroom and the staff was not really able to repair it and it smelled until we left. One day it was absolutely not possible to use our bathroom and take a shower.
Also the food was not as expected, or better to say it was not good. It was some crazy mix of Tanzanian, German and fast food kitchen, which was everything, but not tasty. We spend five nights there during Christmas, and it was the last time, we visited this place. The manager wants to do some special offers like dinner on the beach, but it would be better do cook good food, prepare nice breakfast and put good working fan or air-conditioning in the rooms. The place would be ok for 30 to 50 Euro, but not for 100 Euro!
