We (two mature couples) stayed here for five days following our safari. Delightful place in all respects!!! It does not pretend to be an air-conditioned luxury hotel, instead a very homely and comfortable, albeit modest, 14 room hotel/guest house. The upper level rooms had lots of space, a loft for sleeping and a balcony overlooking the central gardens. With the loft window and the balcony door left open at night (there were no monkeys), a cool sea breeze provided confortable sleeping conditions. The central restaurant/lounge is well laid out and tastefuly decorated. Ample lounges and shady spots are available between the beach and the pool. But what really makes this place stand out is the fantastic staff. In the restaurant, Omar, Alex, Fred, Mary and Anna will go to all length to ensure you are comfortable and happy. Anna is the ultimate star among the great team. Likewise, two of the three front office staff, Wilhelmina and Masoud, also do their utmost to make your stay enjoyable. We encountered great staff and service at most of the other places we stayed at, but the Casa del Mar staff are exceptional.
On one of the evenings, a Swahili menu was served and dinner was accompanied by live music and dancing.
We did the spice tour and found it very worthwhile.
One little improvement should be undertaken, namely to install Wifi in the main lounge area. Many people now travel with smartphones and tablets, let alone laptops, The modem available at the front office does not support Apple products and besides, always seemed to be in use whan I visited the office.
Thanks for the graet stay!!!

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
-
Our 14 rooms are located in two buildings. All rooms have sea view and are tastefully decorated and equipped with East African art and furniture built from eco-friendly local materials. The eight rooms on the ground floor have bathrooms with shower & WC and a private balcony. The six second floor suites are all double-story with a spacious living room, bathroom and balcony on the first level, and with a king-size futon bed with mosquito net under the thatched roof. For families, additional beds can be placed on the first level. All rooms have ceiling fans. Casa del Mar has its own emergency generator, as electricity blackouts are not unusual in Zanzibar. Furthermore, we have invested in a 60,000 liters underground freshwater tank with three powerful water pumps, providing the rooms with hot and cold water.
