“Great food, great rooms, great beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

We stayed here in August for 6 days and loved it. The food, the rooms, the staff, the location, and the beach were all great. The Swahili dinner night was particularly good. Paolo and Christine are wonderful hosts and will help you with anything you need, including trips to Stone City or to other restaurants. Well worth it.

Room Tip: Jungle room was very nice.

I stayed for two nights in room #6, which is a very dark room because of no windows and very dim lightning.

Big bed - please note that they do NOT turn down room for the night, so remember yourself before sunset, to put down the moz-net and spray.
A little downer to think it's being done, since noone told you otherwise at the welcome briefing...

Nice big bathroom, with amenities and hairdryer.

The staff seems welcoming and friendly, allthough to me it actually felt kind of forced.
But they are all very nice and friendly.

Food is mediocre at best and in my opinion highly(!!) overpriced!

The hotel is decorated in mainland-africa-style, which is beautiful decor in it self - but to me it was kind of off, since i absolutely adore zanzibar-style and -decor, and was visiting Zanzibar and not mainland.
But that's a matter of personal taste.

The location of Mamamapambo is perfect, right in the middle of Jambiani, a small village, with the true authentic feeling to it, aswell as being right on the beach, where one can watch the everyday local zanzibari life, which was my reason for choosing to visit and stay in Jambiani.
(I could do without the begging kids though - but i guess some "wellmeaning" tourists actually do give them money - which you should NOT do!)

I loved my stay in Jambiani,- whether i will choose to stay at Mamamapambo again when i come back, i have yet to decide - but i kind of doubt it.

Paolo, Christina and their staff run a fantastic hotel. The rooms are unique and located just steps from the beach. The town of Jambiani is sleepy, but you do have the opportunity to explore nearby beach bars and restaurants and watch local life go by. I suggest an afternoon snorkeling which is quite reasonable and a stunning way to experience the sea.

Room Tip: All rooms are just steps to the beach. If you're concerned about not having a balcony, there'...

6 wonderful days in this beautiful boutique hotel on the white sandy beach of Jambiani .... rooms very large and immaculate, clean and the Jungle on the first floor has a fabulous view! The staff were friendly and always smiling, the restaurant is definitely the best on the beach of the village! great food, varied and competitive prices with other restaurants in the area.
Many thanks to Paolo and Cristina for the romantic dinner organized on the beach! recommended, we want to return.

After a 7 day safari in Tanzania, I could not ask for more: Lovely small and intimate hotel, wonderfully decorated in local colors, with small Italian details like a great cappuccino or the Italian restaurant. Right on the beach, in beautiful Jambiani. Lovely owners, eager to help, without being overbearing. Great breakfast and the best Swahili dinner of the trip

Thanks guys (really!) and just keep it up :)
Looking forward to seeing you in a Greek island someday ;)

Room Tip: We stayed in (1) and it was lovely with a beautiful veranda, almost right on the beach

I stayed here for 4 nights in Aug. with my 3 kids. Food was great (which is not trivial in Africa) - cooked by an Italian chef, the hotel's location is incredible (right next to the beach) and staff are very friendly. I believe prices are reasonable compared with other hotels in the area - at least that's what I saw back then.
Some minor drawbacks to keep in mind:
1) The hotel is smack in the middle of a residential area so you won't get siesta time, especially if you're in one of the 2 rooms not facing the sea. Kids playing and screaming all the time
2) The hotel is not very family-oriented in the sense that they only had 1 single bed to add to our 2 rooms. So 2 of us shared the same bed. But the beds are huge... Ideal for couples though
3) No swimming pool as others have pointed out...
Apart from that... it was great

We just returned from our trip to Zanzibar, we spent 10 days in this fantastic boutique hotel.
Everything is very nice and furnished with a unique flavor, the pretty restaurant offers delicious dishes cooked every night in front of guests, we enjoyed very much that the kitchen is open! We always dined here since the menu offered is varied, good portions and exceptional food at a very competitive price. Paolo every night, puts his touch in the care of the dishes with excellent results.
The rooms are beautiful! We had a double room on the first floor Jungle .... the veranda in front of the room offers privacy and a wonderful view of the sea, unforgettable breakfasts made here in the morning (just ask the waiters to serve your breakfast outside the room). The room is decorated in African style, with a spacious bathroom with a shower really huge! The rooms are equipped with hair dryers, complimentary toiletries, insecticide and the blanket in the evenings ventilated there has been very useful.
Our compliments to the staff, friendly and helpful, Paolo and Cristina 's attention to their guests, they make you feel at home. I highly recommend this little corner of paradise!
Excellent value for money.
